I attended a handbag show once at a friends house where they were selling LV at greatly discounted prices. They looked nice, but weren't the real thing. I can't tell by the picture you have posted, but if that bag came from one of those shows, the odds are great that it's a fake. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Don't buy it, it's a fake. A pretty bad one. First, I can tell by the vinyl wrapping over the handles since no brand new monograms ever have vinyls over them anywhere. Second, the shape of the bag is definitely off as well. It just isn't symmetric, especially in the first pic. Third, I can also tell by the cheap stitches in the second and third pics. Forth, those handles are place too "close" from one another. Compare it with this one, which is authentic:

Hope this helped.

I can't truly tell from the pics. But, it does look kind of fake to me. The second picture--the tan leather looks a little too shiny--kind of plastic-ish. Also, the edges of the tan leather that looks kinda reddish, should be from the raw edge of the leather (there is a slight coating on the edge though) but should not look "painted" that color--I've seen that done on a lot of fakes...

It's a shame these bags are copied so much. I mean, I understand WHY, but it's still a shame people are getting "duped".

Well, if the prices for the real LV bags weren't so outlandish, there wouldn't really be much need for phony ones!! /forums/images/graemlins/look.gif

I personally wouldn't buy either a real or a fake LV bag, but I truly don't understand why anyone would pay $400+ for a "real" Louie, when you can get a phony one that looks just like it for so much less... I mean, who's gonna examine your bag that closely to try to see whether it's real or not??!! /forums/images/graemlins/sekret.gif

I see what you're saying Lindy--but why can't it be the other way around? If a person can't afford a real LV, then why can't that mean that they're not meant to have one. Why contribute to breaking the law by buying fakes???

It's clearly fake - the interior is cheap and the wrong color. Also, real LV never has the dumb little hang tag on it (some idiots walk around with this thing on their bag like it is part of it even though it screams "I'm carrying a fake!"). And you don't get authenticity cards that look like that - no only is it a fake - it's a horrible, cheap fake.

That bag is not authentic.

If you want to ensure that you are getting an authentic new LV bag, purchase it at an LV boutique. That is the only place I purchase my bags, and I only recommend purchasing from an LV boutique. eLuxury.com is LV's online retailer, so if you must purchase online, eLuxury is where you should purchase one. Vuitton.com is LV's International site, and can be used as a reference, but even it will refer you to eLuxury if you want to make an online purchase.

There are very few new, authentic LV bags for purchase floating around, outside of the LV boutiques and eLuxury. Period.

I am accustomed to the quality of LV bags. They are classic, and I actually have a nice collection. I've been carrying them for years. When I was little my Mom, Grandmom, and aunts carried them (and those handbags and luggage are still around and looking great today). This was before most people in America even heard about LV. For me, the price is justified, as they truly do last for years, even the ones you carry every day. I know this from personal experience. They are all handmade with superior craftsmanship, using excellent materials and stitching - even the luggage.

Some of the fake bags might appear to be close to an authentic one, but they don't hold up as long, they are not made with the same materials using the same process. I can tell the difference in even the finest detail, and the differences vary from style to style. Many imitation bags are extremely easy to detect. For most people who regularly carry authentic LV, fakes are typically easy to spot, which is important to know for those who do carry fakes hoping to pass it off as real.

I have always said if you want but can't comfortably purchase an LV, Gucci, Chanel, etc., then get a nice leather bag or something else in your price range. I just don't believe in purchasing fake bags. It is against the law, and the fake bags are not made with the same standards as authentic handbags. I don't believe in purchasing things simply for the "name brand", the designer name, or the "status". For those who do, especially if they've never experienced a real LV's quality long term, I guess spending $100 (or whatever they cost) for a counterfeit bag works for them. But for me, I am used to the quality that I know I am getting with an authentic bag. Considering the quality and how long they last, along with a host of other reasons, the price is not a factor for me.
