That I can wear multiple shades of foundation?
I think I can wear MAC
NW 47
NW 50
NC 50
NC 55
MUFE HD
177
180
MUFE Mat Velvet
#75
#80
I am so tired of searching for the right shade. None of them are perfect perfect much, but they work.
Maybe because my skin is so many acne spots and hyper-pigmentation, it makes it so anything works, but is not perfect:wallbash:
I wish I could go without foundation. Then I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Most people can wear multiple shades of foundation. It's more common in black women because our skin is rarely one shade, even without hyperpigmentation and scarring. I typically keep 3-4 different foundations around the house.

Even though I can wear the NC shades, I don't like them:ohwell:
I like the NWs better. MUFE HD178 is my absolute favorite shade, but it can be very oily in the summer.

Your powder could play a role too. I used powder once to help make someone (my friend) tan majorly.
I saw them before they were tanned all over their body. I just matched the foundation to the face, but than their body was a WHOLE 3 SHADE DIFFERENT. I just used powder to get a better match. I was almost freaked out...It was a BEACH WEDDING..so skin was showing...it would have been noticeable.
This could be happening with your foundations. Your powder could be the balancer.
But that's weird for you to go from warm to cool. NC and NW. I doubt that you can wear both. Not well. Someone could have a concealor that is NW, but their foundation is NC.
I know you must be sooo frustrated..and all the money spent trying to find the perfect shade. :wallbash: Hopefully it will all end soon. :yep:

But that's weird for you to go from cool to warm. NC and NW.I know. I really don't like the NC shades, I think they are more "off" than the "NW" even though the NW can be a bit too dark. I have tried lighter shades of NW, but they are too red:nono: It is the worst thing trying to find foundation shades. Sometimes I think I am neither NW nor NC. It I did not like SFF, I would just give up on it.
Question- If you can't find the perfect shade do you go with something lighter or something darker? I have a pretty dark neck compared to my face. Should I be aiming for my foundation to match/be closer in ton to my neck?

Have you tried going to be professionally matched for a foundation shade? Also remember in the winter months it's likely that you will need a different color than you use in the summer...

You may need to keep searching for a better match. Different brand of makeup.
If I was doing makeup on someone with a dark neck.....umm First it depends on the shae of the person. ...But, let's just focus on sista's.
I would have to use 2 different shades of foundation. The forehead, cheeks, nose, around the eyes, top of the muzzle would be the lighter color and the jaw area, chin and even top of the forehead (the edges of the face) would be the darke color and I would make the colors blend together..in a nice gradient....making sure the outer edge color matched the neck ....it's good to even bring the foundation down to under the chin so you down have that harsh line of foundation and no foundation.
If you couldn't do the above I would pick a foundation that matched my neck. That is the craziest thing to me...when the face looks like a floating ghost compared to the neck, because they are two different drastic shades shades.
William Tuttle makes EXCELLENT foundation colors for women of color. Wide Range. This is a professional brand. I hate a one from him....but it's a cream foundation so you will have to set it with a good powder. But, that's if you can wear cream. ..I don't wear foundation, but on those rare occassions where I must I use the above for a short event..not an all day I'm hanging out thing.

I wanted to add when you are trying on foundation, make sure you swipe it on right on the side of your face where your chin connects to your neck.
IF YOU CAN swipe a couple difference foundations...walk the store..or chill WHATEVER around 15 min later go look at yourself in the mirror and see which foundation looks the best. Place the swipes side by side.
Foundation oxidizes and darkens around 10-15 min after you put it on ....so you want to give it some time to see which REALLY DOES look better.
You want to make sure it matches the neck. :yep:

Also remember in the winter months it's likely that you will need a different color than you use in the summer...I have gone to MAC and they always tell me that I am NW. I have been matched with NW47 and NW50. I have never been professionally matched with an NC shade though. I just thought to try NC 50 and 55 because when I posted pics of my skin ton I was told that I looked like I was NC and I was also told that MUFE HD 178(which is my favourite shade) was equivalent to NC50. Thats why I tried the NC shades. The NCc look like they could work if I did not have some spots that where darker than others.

im currently using NC50 with NW43 powder on top, which seems to work for me, the NW foundations are too red but the NC (alone) can appear too yellow at times..

Maybe you just need to get a good CORRECTIVE concealor to cover the dark spots.
Corrective concealors usually come in purple/lavendar, green, and yellow.
If it's a red blemish like pimple stuff you would use green corrective concealor. If it's like dark kind of like folks who have dark under circles (blueish) or just a dark mark you would use the yellow corrective conealor. And Purple is used to correct yellow blemishes.
Than after you use the corrector you can just apply your foundation.
Smashbox has a corrector set.
Dermablend has great concealors..
ETA: For foundation...maybe you should try mixing two different foundation colors until you get your shade. :yep: A little more work, but at least you will like it if you find ur shade.

Thanks ladies. I am trying to work on my skin. Maybe as my skin improves my skin ton will change. Anyway, the search continues. Good thing I can get samples of stuff. I wish I had a girl friend near by then I could try different shades and they can help me figure out what works and what doesn't. For now my DH is it.
