**Raises hand*** I can't do the Xylitol, it upsets my digestive system and that's too bad because is tastes just like sugar. I can, though, do Erythritol (?) which also tastes like sugar, but doesn't give you the abdominal upsets. I also use Stevia, but most folks don't like the taste.

My DD and DH can eat any and everything with Xylitol, it doesn't bother them at all.

I can't do any of the alcohol based fake sweeteners. They all make my stomach act a fool. Even chewing a piece of sugar free gum with xylitol will send me to the bathroom.

I decided that it made more sense for me to try to limit my regular sugar intake than to try to replace it with fake sugar.

Lord, I hope I never become diabetic because that stuff turns my belly into a percussion. The Zevia soda wore my belly out!

Xylitol gives me explosive diarrhea:nono: @ the bolded, where do you get yours and what brand do you buy? Is it more expensive than Truevia or Purevia?

Gum was my first experience with the horrible effects of Xylitol. 10 years ago I switched from regular to sugar-free gum. My mistake was that I was eating 3-4 pieces a day because it was sugar-free. For over a week I couldn't understand why I had the runs all day and through the night, I wrecked my brain trying to figure out what was going on. Then it occured to me, that the only change I made was the chewing gum. I immediately stop chewing it and the problem went away. These days i chew regular gum, but I only chew 1/2 piece at a time.

I have no problem with Zevia, it's made with Eryithritol which is not suppose to give you the same stomach issues as Xylitol as long as you use in reasonable amounts and not excessively, yet it tastes like sugar.

I got mine from the Healthfood Store, I don't know if you can find it in a regular grocer. I use a brand called Smart Sweet it costs $16 for 1 1/2 pounds, but it lasts me forever because I use a teaspoon or two to sweeten my protein shakes.

Again, if you use this excessively, it can cause some tummy issues--but compared to Xylitol I can use 1 teaspoon of Xylitol and have the runs all day, whereas I can use up to 2 teaspoons of Erythitol and have no issues at all--and I have a very sensitive tummy.

All sugar alcohols do that to me. I mean runs, gas, and swelling.
