View Full Version : Are Tapered Leg Jeans Coming Back?

I dread the thought ... but I have seen some fall fashion ads with tapered leg jeans and on What Not To Wear on TLC, they implied that bootcut/flare legs were "over." Say it ain't so! High-waisted, tapered leg pants and jeans do nothing for small-waisted, big bootied, wide hipped women like me. I think they only look halfway alright on tall, slim women.

I will continue wearing whatever looks good on me nonetheless. And tapered jeans don't cut it for me so I will not be jumping on that fashion trend.

ITA w/ Katie. Its ridiculous to wear something that isnt flattering on you just because its the style of the moment. I think bootcut jeans were the best things ever invented for us hourglass shaped sisters bc it balances out our bottom half. Now the extreme flare I think is a little out and teenybopperish, but a slight flare/bootcut has been in style for the past several years and I dont think its going anywhere.
My latest favorite is a dark rinse I found with stretch for 7.99 at a thrift store, they look brand new and are very flattering and slimming...those are my fall jeans...lol.

Tapered jeans are coming back YES! I heard it to. You wear them tucked into boots, apparently(tall rugged boots)I dont know if I can work this fashion trend or not yet. I'll have to try it on and see.

Yes, I think they're coming back. I have a pair actually, but I will only wear them on my "skinny" days....because they really do emphasize an hourglass figure. Oh, and yes they're perfect for tucking into boots...

Thx chica--but that's the thing, I'm slim but I still have a waist and hips and they can tend to make even me feel a little too "curvy"...I still prefer the bootcut. And as someone mentioned above--flares are now the trend of the teenyboppers... http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So it's true. (GASP!) What's interesting is that I'm doing a long-overdue cleaning out of my closets, and I am throwing out all of my old tapered-leg Levis. I don't care if they're coming back; I ain't even gonna try to wear them. Remember when tapered legs were the "norm," and then the bootcuts came in ... I wonder if because of the trend or fashion bandwagon, it'll become more difficult to find boot-cuts ... ? I doubt it, but that would be a worst case scenario.
As for tucking jeans into boots, didn't that go out in the early 80s? That look doesn't flatter many people either.

lol options....guess we'd better stock up on bootcut jeans! too bad Im still losing weight and refuse to buy any more pants till I get to my goal.
picturing myself with jeans tucked into boots, drawing the eye to my "thick" hips and thighs.....isnt an attractive thought!
Now I did notice a wider leg jean and pant coming back out, and that is also flattering because it creates a clean line. I wouldnt mind having some black pants like that.

I think they may be coming back but for me, I'm only gonna rock em with boots over them right now.

Hmmm I wouldn't wear tapered jeans if someone bought them for me. I will stick to my bootcuts.

Well, I found some pics--they're not jeans..but you get the idea. It's a whole bohemian look with jeans, boots and ponchos/sweaters...

Shoot I have no hips and thighs and they still dont do anything for me..if anything they would make my barely existent ***... nonexistent. Plus Im not a boot person anyway. Not cute for me http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/nono.gif

I've seen a lot of tapered leg jeans in the stores lately. It's a trend I definitely won't sport. They make me look ridiculous. The last time I tried a pair on was a couple of years ago when I was cleaning out my closet. Boot cuts were just starting to become popular. I tried on the tapered leg Levi's and when I went to lookin the mirror I had to laugh at my darn self. All I could do was shake my head. I'm already petite and these jeans made me look like something out of the 80's; the Lorraine character from mad t.v. also comes to mind. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I mean the jeans were high waisted and all. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/lachen70.gif Plus I had a hard time getting them off because that tapered part at the bottom was so close to my ankles. Never again...Lol. I hope bootcuts stay in style forever, they're the only style that really flatter my shape.

When I first read this thread I thought, "NO WAY." But those 2 pictures aren't to bad. Even though I am thin, I don't think that tapered jeans flatter me. The flip side, I have some beautiful sweaters and boots that would look good this " NEW LOOK".
I might try it this fall!

I often wear dark tight jeans with slouchy kneehigh boots and a fitted leather jacket. And with high heels my bottom looks a whole lot better too. I'm an hourglass/pear but not so big and I love to emphasize my figure http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I'm not ashamed, haha! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just don't see this look lasting long or making it big. It's too dated and retro. Almost like trying to bring back biker shorts in public or neon plastic bracelets. In other words, something no one, really, looks good in.

Well, I guess it's just me and a few others who wear this style http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
People who are in to fashion and such wear it, but most people still wear their jeans bootcut and over their boots.
I work in the entertainment industry, so I like to look different. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This fifties style is great on boyish frames, but not on those with fuller figures. The narrow cut at the calves "makes hips look wider," says Gregg Andrews, a fashion director at Nordstrom. Thighs a little wide? Stay away from cropped versions; elongate legs in styles with hems that hit below the ankles. Flats work well with skinny jeans, but high heels will only add to the tall and slender look, says Notify designer Maurice Ohayon. To easily fit this narrow cut over your foot, look for zippers at the ankle

I perish the thought of these jeans coming back in style. i am shaped like a spoon so they aint happenin on me. I used to hate it when these were usually the only jeans i could find...i got to the point where i just started buying men's jeans. Men's jeans are way better on me. i got booty, hip and thigh space and they fit in the waist.

http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif please say these pencil-leg pants are not making a comeback. I just read an article last night, which was showing which jeans to wear for your body type. Of course, my body type (wide hips) should avoid anything tapered.

I'm 5'1" and very thin with a short waist. I just like bootcut jeans because they fit over my boots and sneakers better. As far as jeans that flatter my figure I just like fitted jeans that sit on the hips (but not too low). They seem to show off my waistline really well. I'd love to look more curvacous. Anyone know who bootcut jeans look best on?

[/ QUOTE ] They are cute on those models, but would look like hell on me. Go head on if you can wear them. To many people who should be wearing these are wearing lowriders and it is not cute. I will stick w/ the lowrider/bootcuts for the rest of my life. LOL

Caress,
Bootcut jeans are supposed to be especially good for women who are 1)short-waisted and 2)taller (maybe 5'6"+).
I've also read more and more in Allure, Glamour and Elle that, as the bootcut has become more popular, the general framework is better for more and more women. As a rule, you don't want jeans to be exactly at your waist. They should fall a tad below. With the lower fit, you get a smoother line vertically and horizontally overall.
But, two things I wanted to say. I am a pretty tall girl (5'10"), short-waisted (over half of my body is legs)and slender (126lbs). Because of this, I have NEVER and will NEVER wear the typical women's hourglass figure type jeans. Before bootcut became popular, my best selection for jeans were men's which have ALWAYS carried bootcuts and had LONG inseams available. Only jeans I have ever worn have been either bootcut or straight cuts.
The second point is what I don't seem to see in some of those fashion mags I mentioned. That is, if your caboose is a little larger, those bootcuts may flatten it out some, BUT they also widen the derriere tremendously. That sort of kills that clean line from the front.
If anyone knows, I wish they would comment on the following? When did it become popular for women with really bellies to feel comfortable letting them HANG OVER that low fit? I have seen this SO MUCH this summer...like it's a real status symbol or something.
~Jade~
