Where is the best place to buy basic clothing that will last and look good as long as I need it. I need to add a few clothes to my wardrobe that will *hopefully* last decades if that is what I want. Price is less of an object because I am planning on never letting go of these items.
Items on the list are:
Black pants (the one I have on now *from Ann Taylor* need to be burned)
Maybe a black skirt (I currently have one from the Limited that actually is like 6 years old, no wear and tear shown, but it is stretchy and the wind whips through it in the winter)
Khaki pants
White button down shirt
Khaki skirt
Wool skirt suit in a dark color (I have one wool suit in tan, need another)
Sturdy camisoles and tees in various colors

I was about to make a post about this lol
um I went to NY&Co today. They have some really nice basics. White, Black, and Solid color t's and tanks. I didn't buy anything because I was downtown w/ my dad and he was doing some interior decorating in the manager's office but they look like they have some quality stuff.

Ditto. I have clothes from Talbots that I bought 5 years ago and they still look brand new. The clothes are classic. But, lately they have branched out a little. They also have outlets. Check out www.talbots.com (http://www.talbots.com) and see if there is an outlet in your area.

I may have to check out talbots. I think we have one in an outlet mall in nashville. I don't know about ny&co I bought some pants there about 3 years ago that I clean the house in now cuz they look so bad. And I bought a white polo shirt their this summer that looks decent but it should still look brand new...I mean I only wore it twice.

If you are looking for affordable basics I would say Target and Old Navy for a few of those pieces that you are on the hunt for. For black slacks I would definately go with something a little more expensive than tar-jay but white button downs, cami's and even khakis are great to get from there.

For long lasting quality garments, I have had good luck with Banana Republic and J.Crew.
I have this top from Banana Republic and it has lasted for years and still looks fairly new. I bought a similar looking top from Old Navy and it is already raggedy after only a few washings.

If you don't mind shopping online, many stores are having incredible markdowns. I have seen so many great deals on winter clearance items. I am currently doing a major overall of my wardrobe and I am preparing for my move to NY, so I am shopping in reverse (buying my winter clothing now at heavily reduced prices). J. Crew is/was having a great sale. I bought 2 shirts and 1 sweater at an extra 20% off (sorry the special ended last night), plus I found a discount code for an extra $20 off orders off $100 or more that was supposed to expire on Saturday, but it still worked on Sunday.:D Also, BR is having a great sale. Online the selection is okay. You really have to go to the stores. I bought 3 pair of pants that are regulary $78 each at $22 a piece. That's less than the price of one pair of pants! Even the sales clerk commented on my deals. I didn't get to try on any shirts though, because I was with a friend who doesn't have the same taste of clothing, so there you go. I was trying to be considerate. (That's why I shop alone). Anyway, I bought a coat from VS that was on sale. I found a tiered discount code that I think was $15 off an order of $100 or more and free shipping. I'm not sure. I ended up getting a sweater vest and coat for $90. Last but not least I just discovered a store called Mango. I know that they have a retail store in my area, but it is too far so I visited the website and they are having a great sale. I got some pretty good basics like blouses and skirts for work. However, the shipping is kind of expensive, and I neglected to read the special where they offer free shipping on orders of $150 or more. (my order totaled $144 :ohwell: ) oh well. I plan to make some more orders on outerwear from them. Last, (again:) ) check Esprit.com. There clothes aren't really my style, but they have great deals on sweaters (great for layering in the winter). You should def. check it out. I have plenty more advice, but this post is already too long. Happy shopping!
