O.K. I was looking at the wesites that sell real african black soap. not the stuff that they sell in the beauty supply stores that are actually "BLACK" and are manufactured here in the U.S. but I was told about this store here in charlotte called the "HOUSE OF AFRICA"
they have beautiful african art and furniture along with the black soap that is sent in from Ghana along with Shea butter that they sell for 10.00 dollars for an 8 ounce jar.
Well, I know that this jar will last me for at least a year because it only takes a piece about the size of a peanut. it lathers up very well and I'm starting to notice a positive change in my skin after using it for 3 days. I'm happy I checked around before ordering off of the internet because on on website they were behind in the and it would be a while before you would receive your order. If you have any darkspots or super oily skin I really recommend that you invest in this product. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

What EXACTLY is IN Black Soap and why is it good for skin? I thought it was made of Cocoa Butter? Wouldn't that clog the skin?

It has Plantain Skins, Palm Kernal oil, Natural Sodium and Coconut Oil. It lookes like dirt and smells like "nothing" for me in the past couple of days my "T" zone hasn't been as oily and after I wash my face I have a glow. here is a website that has it www.nasabb.com (http://www.nasabb.com) They also offer samples.

Thanks, ChocolateChild...I guess. Now you have the PJ in me wanting to get some Black Soap! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I checked out the site. So, I guess that "African Black Soap" I always see in the beauty supply store is fake. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I just ordered the sample pack of the hair oil, black soap, honey/oatmeal soap and incense from www.nasabb.com. (http://www.nasabb.com.) The free sample is only $4 shipping.
I also found another site that sells REAL black soap ($5) and natural shea butter direct from Africa: www.africansheabuttercompany.com (http://www.africansheabuttercompany.com)

I'm very pleased with naasaab's service and shipment. So far I'm content with my black soap, and like Chocolate Child I've noticed a glow in my skin. It's also evening out my skin tones.
But be forwarned, it smells very earthy. The smell doesn't seem to follow you out of the shower, but it's a prodcut probably only for hardcore Nubians! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I got my stuff from NASABB last week! I've tried the Black Soap sample on my face twice (at night to remove makeup) and I LIKE IT! It lathers very well and makes my face smell squeaky clean.
AND it does seem to give a glow! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif However, I'm using the Glytone system on my face, so I only want to use this stuff occasionally as I don't want to mess up my progress with the aforementioned products. But, once my skin is where I want it to be, I may make this Black Soap and the Sulfur soap my staple face cleaning items.
Have you tried the Hair Oil? I tried the sample on dry hair and BOY is it oily! Haven't tried it on wet hair yet, but I like the smell. Smells like Carol's Daughter Hair Milk (Lemongrass/Lily).
Haven't tried the Honey & Oatmeal soap sample yet.
And I agree with HoneyVibe, NASABB's service is great. I faxed in my order on a Sunday and WITHIN HOURS I received a confirmation email and the sample was sent out a day or so later. Very professional. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I came over here to rave about this product and it looks like I'm the last one to find out about it!
I had tried black soap before. But I was using the cheap imitation stuff that left black stains on my washcloths and bathtub...
I ordered some shea butter from nasabb and got the little sampler pack. I really liked the black soap and I ordered two more bars. Or should I say "lumps". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif A friend of mine saw the little sample and said it looked like a baby turd. LOLOL
I have oily skin that is prone to breakouts and this stuff is great. It doesn't dry my skin out at all.

I agree! Their black soap is wonderful. I'm giving some away for Xmas! I also recently purchased their shea butter (unrefined) and I like that too. It's a little heavy in hair though. I put some in my wet hair before rollersetting this week and my hair was so limp. But, now-a few days later- my hair is curly and bouncy again. Guess, it took a few days to fully absorb.
BTW- their honey & oatmeal soap is great, too. I bought a few more bars of that. It's a little more moisturizing than the black soap.

Sassygirl, thanks for the link. I've been trying to get a skin care regiment started and don't know where to start. I'm in my early 30s and still breaking out! Since you've got oily skin, I figure I'll try the black soap. I visited the site and even called the woman (they're in Austin) and told her about the forum. She sounded real nice, so I ordered a "lump"... I'll let you know if it works for me.. ta, ta!

CHOCOLATECHILD,
I'd ordered the soap sample about a month ago to get rid of some pimples, and my face is now CLEAR!!!! it's a bit too harsh to use every day. (my skin was getting execessively dry and flaky) So, I switched to every other NIGHT, following the directions: use a hot towel and keep over the face to open pores, lather then rinse and blot dry... After that, I re-wet my face and add cocoa butter or MaryKay's Night Emolient and my face is baby smooth !!! Real black soap is a keeper!!! I'm locked into a new regimen that works perfectly...well, until summertime! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Here's where I bought mine: BlackSoap (http://www.nasabb.com/nasabbnew/blacksoap2.htm)

i had some black soap from dudu osun and it worked fine but i think i am overdoing because my cheeks feel like it has been burned. it feels rough and if i put stuff on it it stings and looks reddish. so i dont know if i am overdoing it. i wanted to even out my skin tone but i may have to give this a break for a while till my face calms a bit. God bless you all.

I used black soap for almost a year and had the same problem. My skin was smooth but the black soap seemed so harsh that I always felt that I had to alternate with another soap.

It sounds good to me. Well, just as long as I don't overuse black soap. Then I wont have to pay for expensive 3 step acne products that probably work just as well or worse. I would like to try the Nasabb gift pack. Sounds really nice. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How about the soap the Muslims sell on the street. I was tempted to buy some yesterday is that the real one.

Did some of you really find the black soap harsh? I actually thought it was quite gentle, with a few abrasives added in... /forums/images/graemlins/lick.gif

No they usually don't sell the real ones. The soaps are ok ,but if you want the real stuff you have the buy it from Africans. Real black soap looks like a rock.

I used Fair & White black soap about a week ago and I wanted to make it work. But it made my face tight and had a film on it. And then I started getting what looked like a heat rash on my face. So I discontinuedd using it right away. I need to stop experimenting with different products on my face.

Are you still using the black soap? Do you ever use a toner? HOw long did it take for your skin to clear up?

For those of you with very oily skin who use black soap, do you also use the shea butter they recommend? How safe would it be to use shea butter on oily skin?
