But I want to! My friend Rhonda thinks it's hilarious because my mom is a make up queen:lachen: Anyway, I've been reading a lot of the threads on here and think I'd probably like a nice natural look but I'd also like to glam it up sometimes to. I've lost over 80lbs in the last year and am very close to goal and I really want to look and feel my best. I work at home and I've pretty much slipped into the middle aged SAHM look which really sucks cuz I'm only 28:lachen: (Kinds really age you though!) So if you ladies could help me out with color suggestions, ideas, where I can fid the best tutorials etc. I've been looking around here and think I'd really like the mineral make up because I like for my skin to breathe.

I want to be a hot momma! Ok so here's my bare makeup less face (please no rude comments)

Specktra.net is the ultimate beauty resource on the web… but they can be a little intimidating. There is sooo much information on that site, and those women are major MAC fiends! So they will talk you into spending some money. Also youtube is a great source for tutorials (tuts)….

Here are some links that are your go to source:

Specktra.net WOC section:

I started making videos b/c I saw a lack of WOC make up tuts on yt...

I think YouTube is one of the best resources for makeup. Check out scandalousbeauty, DRBrooklyn730, EnKoreMakeup, eyeXluvXmakeup, I learned a lot from them. My subscription list is super long now, but these can get you started.

ETA: Also, going in to a Sephora or a department store makeup counter can be a good learning opportunity if you get a good Makeup Artist/Sales Associate.

I know not a thing of makeup, but i think if done right, it can really pull a look together. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see if i can pick up any tips.

Specifically speaking for you, I love your skin! It’s evenly toned, so you don’t need much in way of foundation. I have a YT video on this method… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI-lTzI9cx4 but basically is where you take your facial moisturizer and mix it with your liquid foundation to create a tinted moisturizer. I tried Bare Escentuals mineral make up, but that tended to give me ashy streaks on my face when in certain lighting or when a camera flashes. If anything liquid make up looks more natural to me b/c unlike powders or heavy cream it doesn’t sit on the skin. When you use only powders for coverage, it make the face look to matte and flat. I use liquid foundation for cover and a press powder to mattify some super shiny areas like my nose, but I don’t use the powder for coverage.

Your lips are a major strong point on your face! My favorite lipstick is MAC Monogram lipstick in Status Symbol....its limited edition though, but there are dupes for it or you can find your nearest CCO. CCO prices are generally discounted by 30%, on all Estee Lauder Brands like, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Stila, Clinique, Estee Lauder, Prescriptive etc. The one I went to is in ATL in Discover Mills Off Saks.... its off of 85 North. http://www.outletbound.com/cgi-bin/stores_by_name.cgi?StoreCode=CosmC List of all cco locations. But play around with lip color….NYX Diamond Sparkle Lipgloss in Fuschia Sparkle is another favorite!

You’re eyelids are amazing as well, you actually have a defined crease. So I would really search for tutorials that “cut the crease” or “bang out the crease” … there is so much make up lingo. But basically what you do is take an eyeshadow shade that is a little darker and applying it in the crease. And applying darker shadow to the “outer V” of the eye which is the outside corner of the eye. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZq2yjECMNk that’s a good video. This method creates a smoky eye. I think your eye shape would benefit from looking more elongated… so creating a cat like outer v. Eye liner is also your best friend. Pencil eyeliner is easiest, and I think it’s the best. Use a kohl liner b/c those are softer pencils. I like black eyeliner, but also brown is a nice change of pace. My favorite eyeliner is Kohl Power Eye Pencil- Mystery… it’s a black kohl liner with turquoise.. it has more dimension just pure black liner.

as far as blush… you look about the same color that I am and my go to blush is MAC Dolly Mix… it think it would look divine on your face and its so sheer that application is idiot proof.

as far as adding glam.. I say get the Urban Decay deluxe palette... those colors are amazing! And just apply the eyeshadow almost like eyeliner... just do a nice sweep of color from the lash line to below the crease... don't go above the crease to the brow bone, or you will look like a dragqueen. Or use eyeshadow crayons or MAC shadesticks to draw a thick line of color and smudge with your finger... Add some black liner winged out on the tip and add tons of mascara!

Oh for mascara there are tons of debates... and I have tried expensive $30 and up mascara, but if anything Covergirl Lash Exact in the purple tube is the best doesn't flake or clump and is cheap! You get super long lashes that are spiky or dry! Not the orange tube b/c for me that tube is bad! The mascara flakes and is clumpy.

Your skin is great so I wouldn't do too much in the way of foundation maybe just a tinted moisturizer. For natural eye looks Bobbi Brown makes some really great colors. There's a nice 7pc. set on QVC (http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.item.A88701.cm_scid.PROM) so you can do your whole look! It also includes a tip card for application so you can do a natural, smoky eye or metallic look. I have this set and I LOVE it, my SO did a double take last time I used it and said wow I really like your makeup today. You can also check out her new nude palette (http://www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com/templates/products/sp_nonshaded.tmpl?REFERRER_CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY229 45&CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY2751&PRODUCT_ID=PROD15051&cm_mmc=Email-_-July-_-070209_NudeReminder_Master-_-nudepaltt1) it looks pretty nice also. The shadows are a great quality and go on easily.

When I first started out I bought simple e/s colors that I could handle (Amber lights, Bronze) Whenever I buy colors from MAC I always ask them what colors go well with what, and then I ask them to show me how to apply. Before I purchase I usually leave the store to check my face in the natural light (their lighting is awful. Learned the hard way).
I usually pick out an artist whose makeup I can see myself imitating or who has a similar skin tone. I never ask the ones who look like Tucan Sam
(Learned this the hard way as well).
I also practice techniques and colors before I leave the house.

I wouln't call myself an artist but makeup is definitely an art.

Kassandra is right....we stayed at a hotel together for a training and her mom rolls in with a suitcase of just makeup...I don't remember if Kassandra had anything other than lip gloss and then trying to help her put her makeup on, lawd!!!!

Looking at your skin though I would not say you needed alot...these ladies have offered great suggestions. Lipstick and eyeliner and call it a day perhaps some tinted mositurizer.
