Has anyone ever injured their hip flexors before?
I've been doing the nowloss butt workouts just once a week. Well the one I'm doing calls for elevated and walking lunges. I don't feel I used too heavy of a weight (just 20lbs each dumbbell for the elevated and 12lbs each for the walking lunges) but I was whipped after doing it last Wednesday. I noticed though that most of the soreness was in my hip flexors rather than my glutes (I have trouble activating them even with good form. I only feel my squats in my quads with very little glute activation).
Well today I got set up to do my first set of elevated lunges. I went down and could not come back up:nono: I tried body weight lunges, same difference. I tried squats and they hurt like heck too. What the heck did I do???? It feel like the round ligament pain I had during my pregnancy with Caleb.
I need to make an appointment with a doctor for sure but I'm not sure which type to see? Well for not I'm going to have to rack my beloved weights and stick to cardio cuz I don't want to jack anything else up until I know what's happening:nono:
If anyone else has had a similar injury please share!

I hope you didn't hurt something serious and it's just a sprain or muscle pull.
The way to engage glutes and not involve quads when doing squats is not to dip too low and to keep butt pointed backwards trying not to let knees extend beyond toes. I only do squats halfway and boy the burn in my butt. Lately Karen Voight's been my instructor and I cannot stress how good my glutes feel. She does squats for the warm up and standing leg workout and they are slight dip but you scream from the burn.
Also keeping weight toward heels and not toes makes a huge difference.

I don't have any advice. I'm not that knowledgeable, but I hope all is well soon.
This is more than just fitness to you...so I know it's going to work out.

I'm so sorry that you are injured. I had a similar injury and I laid off exercise completely for 5 days and I was okay. I started doing yoga after that to stretch my hamstrings. I figured my hamstrings might be tight since I sit all day at my job and that might have caused the stress when I did the lunges. If your injury persists, I would advise you to see a sports medicine doctor.
I tore my plantar fascitis in my foot and my inner meniscus in my knee (on 2 separate occasions). At first I went to see an orthopedic surgeon. He gave me something for the pain and told me to stay off my foot. (I had already gotten crutches from the ER.) He didn't seem concerned about my active lifestyle at all and how I would return to it.
I got a second opinion and went to see an orthopedic surgeon that specialized in sports medicine. He was concrened about my active lifestyle and even asked about the sports I participated in. He prescribed a regimen of physical therapy and did a follow-up. I returned to my normal activity after my injury healed with little issue
HTH.

Kbragg...Sorry to hear of your pain. I have NOT had that injury but, you know I have experience in the field! I also know how active you are! Could it be due to overuse and perhaps a strained muscle? How much rest have you given yourself lately?
If you did NOT hear a pop or feel something sharp while doing a specific move, you are probably ok. You may have just overextended in your range of motion. Have you soaked in epsom salts? Have you stayed O-F-F your legs? (You know I mean, basic walking but no weighted activity)
I know how serious you are with your workouts, but your body only speaks when it really needs to be heard, so PLEASE listen. Take the week off, practice RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevate) if needed and stay positive. If after a week, and you KNOW it isn't getting back to normal, head to a physical therapist or sports doctor if you have one.
Sorry for the book, but I know how it feels when pain gets in the way. Take care and don't be too hard on yourself!
