I really like the sterling silver oval dog tag necklace and bracelet in the Return to Tiffany collection.

I have 2 reservations:
1. When I googled and eBayed it, people expressing interest were saying that they'd received these sets for their 16th birthday. I'm 24 now.
2. I don't usually normally generally ever buy items with designer labels exposed. It's rather tacky, in my opinion.
Feedback.

Played out in my opinion. I sold my necklace and bracelet on ebay like two years ago.

Forget about it, it is played out now and I hate wearing the same stuff as a bunch of spoiled teenagers. Good to see you back though. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I wanted the Tiffany necklace and bracelet for my birthday, but I didn't feel justified paying almost $500 for the name. Someone at my job had a really nice tiffany inspired bracelet and necklace so out of curiosity I asked her where she purchased it. She said she had brought it years ago at the Guess store for $30. One day recently I was at the mall and I went in the Guess store and they had the bracelet and necklace. The necklace was $15 and the bracelet was $13. I say go for it just don't invest a lot of money in the Tiffany version.

Today two friends stopped by my office: a guy J and a girl M. Both are white.
J and I were asking M for her advice regarding fashion decisions that we'll make soon. I showed them the authentic Return to Tiffany necklace and bracelet on tiffany.com, and I showed them cheap imitations from ioffer.com.
J apologized profusely before saying that the jewelry is rather chunky because of the silver links. It reminded him of MTV/BET/VH1 rappers. M agreed, especially after she saw pictures of the GOLD versions on the Tiffany website. They asked me if I'm sure that I'm feeling "black enough" to wear these items, especially with the obvious Tiffany logo on them. (I'm the "least black black person" they know.)
I tried to explain that spoiled suburban white girls at my little brother's high school are getting the AUTHENTIC pieces. I've personally seen white undergrad freshmen at our school wearing them lately. It's not exclusively a black trend.
Anyway, I still like the necklace and bracelet.

What ?!!!! That is very much so a white trend. All the little white girls in westchester have them. Which is why I don't want one. Also Denali is right, it is pretty much played out.

A burden is lifted! I ordered the jewelry.
I discovered these pieces independently of the trends, as my first time seeing them was on tiffany.com when my bf wanted to know how much Tiffany engagement rings cost. My denomination doesn't condone jewelry, so I don't usually notice it. (Does that excuse my bad taste?) Now that I'm getting opinions about the Return to Tiffany collection, I've seen it on several girls. It's rather like buying a car and noticing other drivers with the same model.
As far as the "least black black person" comment, my mom says the same thing about all her kids. She regrets moving to the suburbs sometimes. But next time my friend J is feeling down about his early-onset-male-pattern-baldness, I'll give him a swift kick on behalf of dreemssold.

I think it's played out if you got it/wear it because everyone else got it. I have almost the entire Return to Tiffany collection (started getting it when I was 16) and it's really simple jewelry that you can wear with anything. I now am into the Elsa Perreti collection from there.
Cutebajan you are right alot of the rich white girls in westchester wear them (I lived up there for 3 years) but in dc alot of the rich black girls do too lol so I guess it just depends where you live

well i have the bracelet i bought it a few years ago and i got my daughter one also. I did it because as a child my mom bought us gold bracelets with our names on it so I contiued the tradition but i am not into gold so i got silver. To me it is something she will keep for years to come so i didn't mind paying for it. Now on the other hand i have a charm that my cousin found that is from Tiffanys that I will be looking for a knockoff necklace to put it on. No sense in wasting money at tiffanys just for a chain link necklace when i can get a sterling silver one at the mall. I'm wierd like that.

I think Tiffany is classic, if you like it, get it...a lot of knockoffs were floating around a couple years ago.
