I've read both arguments but I am convinced now it is better to have a pre workout snack as opposed to working out on an empty stomach.
I heard you burn muscle if you workout on an empty stomach. I've been light headed when working out on an empty stomach....

I have experienced light headedness too. But I have heard that after a workout its good to refuel your body with nutrients etc etc.
What type of snack do you eat before? I know sometimes if I dont eat then I work up a ferocious appetite..

I've also read somewhere that if you eat a snack prior to working out, say about an hour or so, you'll perform better during your workout without being fatigued or lightheaded. The best forms of snacks has to in the form of complex carbohydrates and a little protein.

Lately, I've been making a smoothie and drinking half before and half after.
Sometimes I do toast w/ peanut or almond butter w/ half a banana, eggs and toast, nuts.. whatever...

For me, the best thing is to eat a little every three hours or so. That way I'm never too full or too hungry.

If I am doing morning cardio, it on an empyt stomach. But in the evening I have a preworkout meal about 1 hour before I train that consists of a whey shake (40g pro) and a 1/2 c oats (27g carbs). Post workout shake of whey (40g pr) and dextrose (25g carbs).

I used to feel queezy (sp?) when I worked out on an empty stomach. Then I would feel ravenous afterwards and overeat. Now, i eat a hardboiled egg before and a reasonable lunch afterwards.

I usually drink a cup of OJ before my 5:30am run. It's been working OK, but I think I'd do better if I had something else, but it's hard to eat that early in the am. Maybe I'll try some PB & crackers. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/lick.gif
