:perplexedMy dermatologist prescribed a skin clearing cream that unfortunately caused excessive hair growth on my neck and the sides of my face!!!!!!!!!:sad:
I was wondering if anyone here has had laser hair removal, because I read the it may not be effective on dark skin. Pleas share your experiences and thoughts. Thanks.

You can. Go to a place that uses as YAG laser.

There's a few threads on this, run a search for laser in the title. Some lasers can damage darker skin but there's the ND:YAG laser is supposedly safe and effective for dark skin.
Do your research and get more than on consultation.

Thanks. Do you know if it is painful?

I had a test area on my chin...and it felt as if you snapped a rubber band on your skin...for someone as sensitive as me...it hurt like hell...but it all depends on your pain threshold.....I'm still going to get a full treatment done this summer...I will bare with the pain for the results...but there is a numbing cream you can put on the area if it is small...and use ice before you go to try and numb the area even further..hth...

My sister has her bikini area done. I thought she was crazy. Dont tell her but she is high maintence. Anyway she said it felt a little like stinging I guess the rubber band snapping is a good description. The discomfort would depend on your pain tolerance. She did say the more hairy you are the more treatments you have to have. And they charge per treatment.

I had my underarms and my bikini line done. Getting my bikini line done didn't hurt, but getting my underarms done was VERY PAINFUL!!!!

BTW, I have a very high tolerance for pain. I broke bones in my face and I never took any pain pills because the pain didn't bother me. My doctor thought I was crazy.

They do give you a numbing cream to apply one hour before (you have to buy this). All-in-all, I'd probably do it again.

Check out this review: http://www.beautyblvd.net/2009/01/review-beam-laser-spa.html

I had my underarms done the pain was like nothing! It felt like a little zap, I can't really explain it but from 0-10 with 10 being the worst pain ever ... I'd say 2 to 3

I am considering getting this treatment and Beam Laser Spa seems like a good deal.

For those who had it done, did the results last??

I had my chin and neck done using the Cool glide laser, but I think that's more popular in the UK.

I have fantastic results! It hurt a bit, but not so much. The best I could do is liken it to wazing! :lachen: I had a cooling pack and the bottom of the laser has a cooling thingy that eases it a bit. If you cant take pain, there is the option of local anesthesia, but as I was explained you have to come in at least 45 minutes before to allow the local to settle in.

I've done it twice now and I've scheduled my 3rd for this saturday. I was told I only need 4 consecutive treatments in 4 months then I can move onto every 2 months then every year. But I dont mind! My neck and chin are smooth!!!! :) All my razor bumps and thick hairs are gone gone gone!! I'm sold for life! :yay:

Shout out to TemiLnd by the way who recommended the place ;)

i started doing mine several years ago. it hurts, but it's worth it long term. I'm fairly yellow, so it only works in areas where there's decent contrast for most lasers. IE, i have blonde arm hair - it won't work on that. But I've had my underarm and bikini done.

I got laser hair removal (with Gentilase laser) about 3 weeks ago. 10 days after my first session, i noticed dark spots everywhere the laser touched. the nurse at the office where i had this done said that's normal (without seeing it) and that the spots will eventually fade. but i'm wondering...have any of you experienced this? did it fade or was it something else? i really don't want to walk around with clusters of small dark circles on my underarms and bikini areas. HELP!!

Does anyone know of a place in the New England or tri-state NY area that offers ND Yag hair removal?

Muchas Gracias!
