Hi Ladies,
This is a spin-off from a previous thread, where we discussed if anyone had ever done a fitness competition. The consensus was that we would like a interactive challenge thread for a couple of reasons.
To keep each other accountable.
To ask any/all questions that we may be stumped on, esp. for those who already have experience in competing.
A place for interaction to ensure we stay focused, motivated and encouraged.
A place to trade ideas, diets, workout plans, setbacks or anything else that may come up!
So....The questions that need to be addressed are as follows:
When is your First (or subsequent) show? Date/Time/Place/Type of show (ie. Fitness, Figure, Bikini, Bodybuilding)
Your current fitness level and any noticeable challenges you may be having
Your success with Dieting or challenges you may have with it
Plan of attack
Any IMMEDIATE concerns you may have RIGHT NOW that u want to address
If anyone would like to join us, please PM me with your name, so I can add you to the list of challengers. We are all in this together and this forum will also ensure that we are successful in this venture that so many have mentioned they would like to try! If you would like to cheer us on from the sidelines, PLEASE do so!
LADIES....LET'S GET IT!

I guess I will go first.....
1. My first show I am shooting for is the NPA Tri-Cities Regional Show that will be on Dec.5, 2009.
2. My current fitness level is intermediate/advanced, as I teach 4-5 classes a week and run fitness camps also. My biggest challenge will be tailoring my personal workouts to fit within my career and not injuring myself in the process!
3. I have NEVER dieted and am ok with that. From reading Brownchiq's messages, that will SOON change! I just don't believe in denying myself but I know this mentality will NOT cut it....
4. I plan to trim the fat, so to speak, with some of my fitness classes and camps, esp. since i will be heading back to grad school in a few months. I will have nothing on my plate and I fully plan to train (for the first time EVER) with my own agenda of leaning out and maintaining my muscle!
5. The only immediate concern is whether I can last with my training, esp. with my contest date being so far out. (maybe it is just nervous chatter...)
I am just so happy to have found a place where others like me can really MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
So.....who else is in with me?!?!? :)

Ofcourse Im in!
I went to a show yesterday and man the competition will be stiff! If I must say, African American women have the physique that can blow any competition out the water when trained properly! The curves that the judges want come natural to African American women, we just have to fine tune them to get that physique that wins first place! I didnt stay to see if they won first and second but I must say they should have!
So me?
1. When is your First (or subsequent) show?
Next show will be Sept 2009. Ill edit later with the exact date which is NPC Continental in St.Charles Illinois Figure TALL followed by November 7, 2009 NPC Ironman in Chicago, Illinois
2. Your current fitness level and any noticeable challenges you may be having?
Current fitness level would be intermediate to advanced. Although on a daily Im ok with my fitness however, in order to be most competitive and go PRO I really need more muscle mass which I will be pounding out for the next 3 months. So I will need to lift heavy. I would like larger arms and more defined back. Although I have been told my legs are my best asset, I do not agree and would with my quads to be more muscular and defined and my calves more pronounced. These are the areas that I will be working hardest on. Oh, I would also want a more defined abdominal area as well.
3. Your success with Dieting or challenges you may have with it
Im getting better :) The longer I train and the more disciplined I come the more likely I am to stick to my diet. I have to have a planned diet or I wont follow it. I will be consulting a nutritionist to provide this for me.
4. Plan of attack
Research up the wazoo! More than likely I will hire a coach both local and long distance. I need someone to help hone in on my problem areas and beat my a$$ in training. I will be coming out some dollars$$$$ boo hiss :(
5. Any IMMEDIATE concerns you may have RIGHT NOW that u want to address
More muscle more muscle! However, I have issues with gaining weight so, bless me!

I think that going to a show will help with my vision! There is one show coming up next month and I plan to attend! Oh, snap, you just motivated the heck out of me! I didn't really think sisters were out and about like that!
As for your legs, heck yeah, we can trade anyday if you don't think ur legs r the bomb! lol. shoot, let me find out....
I think the d-word is my biggest downfall. You just may have motivated me to hire someone. Shoot, I was really trying to go about this by myself. I liked what you said @ the Savage service, I just saw the other names that used it and made an assumption. I will look at Adela's group (i like her charisma and track record, although Hendershott's record also speaks volumes) I am slowing realizing I can't do this on my own.
Research, you couldn't say that fast enough! I see why others say this becomes your other full time job. Thank goodness I am in the industry already, that makes it easier.
You have the height, which I would kill for. At 5'2, forget it. I am compact and have plenty of muscle. Let's swap out, ok?
Have a great week training. I will come back with some questions @ supplementation. I keep buying and switching up. I just really need to stick with one thing. Here's your homework for me! (LOL)
What are your favorite supplements/vitamins? I am taking like 15 pills a day, I need to cut down and consolidate. Looks like we are on this by ourselves! :)

I think we are by ourselves right now, but maybe people will start to peak in an gain some interest! Ill put it this way, the short class KILLS at every show. Taller people have problems building the BULK which I am testimony of. Yes the sisters at the show that I went to were in the short class and they were stacked, so jealous! I found out that one trains out near my BF and the other one lives in the city of Chicago. I need to find out who they train and diet with pronto!
AS far as supplements, right now just my whey protein shake!
But I will definitely be adding casein protein, glutamine, multi v BCAAs and some others Im undecided on. From training with Betsy, she didnt believe in taking all those supplements just those that I mentioned above and then some fat burners, diuretics and potassium right at contest time.
I'm in! I've always wanted to enter a fitness show. Right now, I'm not even close to the shape I need to be in, but I'd like to compete anyway. It's always been one of my 'zany' goals.
1. When is your First (or subsequent) show?
I guess my next comp will be June of 2010:look:
2. Your current fitness level and any noticeable challenges you may be having?
Current fitness level is just above beginner. I have no flexibility, but will change that. I LUV weight training.
3. Your success with Dieting or challenges you may have with it
The only diet that I've had a mordicom of success with has been Fat Smashers. I plan to transition to a low GI diet.
4. Plan of attack
Find a local competition(a la state fair level) for 35 and above. Also, I want to develop a belly dancing routine for the comp.
5. Any IMMEDIATE concerns you may have RIGHT NOW that u want to address
I have no problem muscling up. I just need to lose the fat, which I hope to do with the low GI diet, BUT what am I going to do about the cellu?

Hi Zora! Welcome!!!
It looks like you have it a gameplan, but if I could ask, why are you waiting for your first show? Is it logistics?
I don't know much @ Fat Smashers, but Dr.Ian is cute, not that it matters. I will go look that up and see what you are working with! lol.
Oh snap! You Go girl! I can't even begin to think @ getting my body to move like that! Which is exactly why I am only looking to do figure contests, I just don't have the patience with myself to learn choreography! :perplexed
Cellulite will come and go, so just visualize yourself without it! That will take care of itself in due time!
Hi Zora! Welcome!!!
It looks like you have it a gameplan, but if I could ask, why are you waiting for your first show? Is it logistics? Umm, when I tell you my boday a'int in no shape, trust me. This gives me a solid year to plan and define every muscle in my body. I also have thyroid issues that I've haven't quite figured out yet, so I need a head start. I've actually decided to do this on behalf of the Grave Disease Foundation (Graves is a form of thyroid disease)
I don't know much @ Fat Smashers, but Dr.Ian is cute, not that it matters. I will go look that up and see what you are working with! lol. I'm only doing the Fat Smasher 9 day detox. What I'm really focusing on will be the low GI diet. The effects are supposed to be equivalent to a high protein diet.

Which is exactly why I am only looking to do figure contests, I just don't have the patience with myself to learn choreography! :perplexed The way I see it, that's my only chance of winning, cuz it a'int gonna based on my body:nono:
Cellulite will come and go, so just visualize yourself without it! That will take care of itself in due time! From your mouth to God's ears!:yep:

HI Ladies,
Just checking in. Ok, I have changed my competition and taking a closer step towards going all in. I have decided to do a show closer to my new home and making my fitness stage debut at The Elite Muscle Classic in NC on Nov. 7, 09.
IT looks like a great show for the NPC and I will be calling the promoter this week for an application/registration sheet.
Also, I have decided (thanks to BrownChiq) that I will be hiring a nutritionist instead of trying to piece this together myself. It looks like I will be going with THE Mike Davies from The Fitness Factory for assistance. Heck, if Jen Hendershott & Adela Garcia count on him, I have NOTHING left to lose.
Just wanted to check in and say hi. Oh, one more thing. I will be buying some protein powder this week and really cutting out my boatload of supplements. I think I take way too many (we are talking @ 14 diff. ones) and confusing myself in the process.
How is it going for everyone else? Any good things happen? Setbacks?

i would really like to do this but i have a lot of fat to lose before I could even consider. Anyway I did some research and found this website. http://www.figurecompetitiondiets.com/
It had some good information on it, and the trainer provides diets and workout programs for a cost of of course. I think I may do this, since I like working out alone.

Since high school, I had an interest in body building/competition, but due to certain things that were going on, I never perused it. I an finally starting to really eat well, and I've implemented regular exercise. I love weight training, but I lack experience, so sometimes I feel a little unsteady. Sometime next year, though, I would love to compete in some type of competition. I'm a shorty too at 5'2, but I love the way shorter women look with well defined muscles. Although I wasn't athletic in high school, I did have a rather athletic lower body. That's what I'm going for this time around!
Also, to the pp re: a low GI diet, that's what I'm doing. I did atkins for about a month or so, and read some info about sugar busters and low gi diets. I felt that the low gi was more of a fit for me. I love veggies/fruit and atkins was pretty restrictive on fruit and some veggies for quite a while, and I didn't want to cheat so early on. The low gi/high protein has been working well for me. I've lost over 30lbs since March, and I FEEL so much better! This is with little/moderate exercise. I'm getting better at incorporating something everyday, and I'm TRYING to make time to do weight training 2-3 times per week. Good luck ladies!

How funny, I wanted to do train with for a half also. I was THISCLOSE to signing up with Team in Training, but felt it was not worth the stress of fundraising.
