I've heard many people say that birth control pills eliminate acne, Last year my doctor prescribed the pill for me to regulate my period, I hated taking medications and i was stuck on the pill to treat my problem up till last month when my period regulated itself and my doctor said i could stop, boy was i happy, Now when i was on the pill i had no acne, my skin was looking really healthy, You would wonder then what my problem is lol...I can still take the birth control but because of the side effects i've had from it i really rather not, i've had chest pains, nausea, weakness, and a lot of other stuff there are pro's and con's to each side If i take the pill i'll have the side effects BUT i'll have acne free skin /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif and i won't have all the cramping and pain i'm used to. Right now i dont know what to do with my face i'm using clearasil pore refining cleanser pads and i wash my face daily with noxzema, i've noticed my forehead has started to dry out, the texture is way different from the rest of my face, the only good thing about the clearasil is that its helping my oily t-zone (my face is a combination of oily and dry). So i dont know what to do. Take the pill and not worry about my acne or invest in acne fighting and skin nourishing products. What do you think

GIRL!!!! NAUSEA?? CHEST PAIN?? WEAKNESS? You're kidding right? You're actually weighing your options? What options? Buy a bottle of Clearasil and think nothing else of it. Clear skin is not worth all of that suffering!!

Hey...I know the feeling. I took Ortho Tri Cyclen as kind of a dual purpose med-to regulate my monthly and to help my acne. It had me feeling absolutely psychotic while I was on it...cramps, mood swings, fatigue...the whole nine. So I switched to Estrostep, and I haven't had a single problem since. And my skin looks good to boot. There are literally dozens of birth control pills on the market, so if you do want to try it again, I'm sure your physician can prescribe another one that would fit you better. Some of them just don't agree with everyone, ya know? hth

i'm in the same boat. i took ortho tri cyclene and thought i was going crazy. I too experienced chest pains, excessive hair shedding, and i came close to developing a clot in my leg. I stopped taking them last month and my skin has not broken out yet (i'm hoping thsi will continue). I'm thinking of trying sulfur soap and benzoyl peroxide 10% to help me maintain control.
i feel a lot better, but of the flip side i enjoyed the predictable periods... maybe i should consider trying a new pill. I get my period every 15 days (its horrible) and it lasts for like the whole week!!!! I dont want to put my health in danger, just for clearer skin!

HoneyRockette: Your right but when i was feeling it i wasn't thinking about that it was just a situation where i was stuck with these pills...Funny enought it was Ortho-Tri- Cyclene too!
I'll definetely talk to my doctor about another kind of pill
Thanks for your advise guys...Clearasil is peeling my skin now /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif i think its too harsh.

i know this is a really old post but my birth control really cleared my skin up and i had absolutely no side effect so you should try a different perscription that will be better for you.

Hi,
I was too on ortho for my acne. I stopped taking it because of excessive weight gain and cramps. I did some research and started taking Pantholic Acid vits twice a day and my skin has never been this clear. I also take biotin and silica, as well as a multi vitamin but I KNOW it was the pantholic acid vits because I stopped taking them for about two weeks and I broke out. Give them a try. Also, I wash my face with proactive. Its well worth the price
