Oh My Word. My frickin knees :wallbash:. I had a baby 6 months ago and have about 30 pounds to lose. I have been doing Cathe Friedrich and Jillian Michaels and running and my knees are hurting sooo badly. I feel like my nana - complaining about my knees. :nono: I think it's a combination of the extra weight and the high impact activities. I really want to continue working out, but I'm in pain.

What to do?

ETA - I really don't want to be relegated to just walking, doing "sit & be fit", or any other low-calorie burning activity. I need to lose this weight pronto.

I would definitely suggest that you STOP doing Jillian:nono: I did the 30 day Shred and immediately started feeling sharp pains when going up/down stairs.

It took at least 2 weeks for my knees to feel normal again:sad:

ETA: I am overweight but I've done step aerobics (The Firm) for years and never experienced knee problems until I did the Shred.

Have you tried doing a workout where you don't have to jump up and down or can modify? Turbo Jam and Hip Hop Abs (yeah I'm biased so what:lol:?) are a couple of good ones.:yep:

I think I tried TJ a few years ago. I don't think I liked it. I'm willing to revisit it, but I need results!!!!! Some videos seems so.....whats the word.....i dunno....I just like workout videos that make me feel like Im training to be a world class olympian:lachen:

I was fine with all the high impact stuff pre-baby, but all of a sudden, my body seems to be breaking down. Im not pleased.

YOGA and low impact may be better for you. Bellydancing is a joy! MSM, although it takes a while to have the MSM do the work.

I used to take MSM until I got pregnant. I've contemplated taking it now to help the pain, but I breastfeed. I may try glucosamine. Will definitely look into bellydancing. Sounds interesting

Make sure whatever supplement you're taking has some extra calcium in it. Or, if you buy a calcium supplement, make sure it has the appropriate amount of magnesium in it so your body actually absorbs it.

When my knees used to bother me I used MSM Cream and that worked well. Ironically since I've lost the weight and strengthened my glutes and hamstrings my knees no longer bother me even when doing plyo type moves:yep:

Do you have the proper workout shoes? I know from experience that any type of workout that has plyos and lateral movement you need a shoe that supports the ankle (usually a mid to high-top) and with great cushioning. I know most mid to high-tops are not too fashionable but your body will thank you for them. Try Rykas for your aerobics. I know Cathe Friedrich uses them in her WO videos.

OMG - i lovvvve spinning, but I dont have a gym membership right now. I want to join a gym JUST for spinning. its a great workout, but i remember when i used to spin, you have to tighten up the wheel thingamajig and doesnt that kinda add pressure to your joint bc its like you're cycling uphill? Anyhow, Ive gotta get some spinning in my life.:drunk:

MSM cream, huh? I'm def gonna get some of that. I truly believe the extra weight is the problem AND I love doing my plyo moves, but plyo + 30 extra lbs is killing me.

I'm sure that my shoes are all kinds of wrong. I've had them forever. You are right - Cathe does wear high tops. I've never heard of Rykas, but I will investigate. Thanks alot!!!

no problem, but if you can try to replace your WO shoes every 6 months if you are using them frequently. :yep:
