Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. 1 Corinthians 15:33

It is important that as we try to move to the next level in God, that carefully survey where conversations may be leading with those we communicated with. Is talking about fornication with my best friend and how her boyfriend did this or that going to help me stop having thoughts of fornication, help her stop doing this deed and most especially, it doesn't glorify God.

Whether you believe it or not, there is the power of life and death in the tongue. Are you listening to death because the wages of sin are death and if you are constantly around people glorifying sin, you are listening and accepting death into your ears and minds. This goes beyond listening because we often think communiction is only listening but aren't things communicated from the television. Is it profitable for a man or women of God to watch a movie filled with images that glorify sin and show no reproof of what sin really is.

Now, for me personally it is a fine line to walk because as a pr practitioner I have to unfortunately go on blogs and forums to see what is going on. What are the trends but I watch very carefully what I discuss and try to see how can this help me as a pr practitioner.

Yesterday, I passed a magazine cover with Rihanna on it and it looked like she had a nose job. I went to see if I could find it and there were all these unlawful pictures of her and I was like, "This is a shame."

One tip of mine is: When you are on the Ent. forum, you can likely tell the thread's intention. Another thing I did on Sister2sister is block the siggy and AVI pics from being shown and also go to the end of the thread and you can see what has transpired.

you know it sickens me when I go on some of these sites. I never really went on mediatakeout and about every 4 months, go on concreteloop. I'm always trying to frequent some type of social networking media like forums, blogs, etc to see the different trends that are catching on incase I can get something in the media. But for me, it's like, "Wow, do I really have to?" then it effects what I can and can't do for my client because I may have missed something because I haven't been on a forum in weeks. But God can make a way; i'm just going to keep my mind stayed on Him.

But as far as listening to secular music, I am no where where I used to be. At first, I listened to everything...then I was convicted and listened to nothing...now, I judge it by five conditions.

What are the lyrics saying? What is the beat like? What is the image of the person who made the song? What type of fruit does the song bear and finally, "does this song glorify God?" We're supposed to do all things for His glory so that is one of my big qualifiers as to what is glorifying Him or not. There are times where a fine line is drawn though or maybe I just make it fine.:ohwell:

Wow, thank you for this thread.

I am dealing with a serious stronghold of allowing these gossip blogs to distract me from working and time at home doing something constructive or spending more time with God. I find myself immediately going to these sites as soon as I wake up in the morning and I end up rushing to get dressed to for work sometimes.

I used to laugh it off when I did this but I really feel a strong conviction now to stop visiting these sites and keep my mind pure and focused on God.

I love your thread topic. It's excellent and a good reminder for all of us.

May I ask a sincere question?

Why do you have to visit those particular blogs you've mentioned? I felt 'sad' for you when I read that in your post. I felt like you had no way out. I didn't want you to be trapped where you did not wish to be.

Is there a way for you to change it for another venue, where you can be a pr practictioner for a 'Family Forum', Home Decor, Cooking, Classical Music, The Arts (in the manner of cultural studies, their folklore, Folkloric Dancing (Dances of their culture which tells stories of life); Ancestry Forums, Medical Forums, Studies of the Elderly, Designs, Skin Care, Natural Healing, Natural Health, Financial Forums, Communications (every minute there's a new upgrade/invention for phones, computers, etc.) Ministry, Environmental Studies...just to name a few.

Gee whiz, this list can go on and on. I've listed some interesting topics that I, myself, can learn more about and make a career out of it sharing with others. Hmmmmmm... :yep:

I've been in the Arts almost all my life and I've never crossed the lines of where I don't belong. It's as if God has a 'wall' between me and what others do which are not acceptable.

I hope you can change venues to help you guard your spirit. You must dread your job. I know I would. :grouphug2:

I feel kinda' 'green' ... :blush3: This (LHCF) is the only forum I visit . I don't have time to go anywhere else. Next to my personal emails, online shopping and my family, friends, classes, I'm pretty much wiped out. It's even past my curfew now ().

Thanks for the reminder, it's very easy for small things to wear you down over time. I don't watch much tv and don't listen much to secular music but I do waste time online - I've cut back but it's still an issue when I'm allowing my mind to be taken up with fruitless discussions and gossip.

One thing that helps and that I need to do more is to ask myself "is this edifying?" before I commit my time to an activity. Every choice we make either builds us up or tears us down, it really is that simple. I really need to take the way I spend my time more seriously than I do. Everything doesnt' have to be serious but leisure time does have to moderated. Maybe we should all pray that God will stir desires for productive hobbies.

With that, I'm gonna log off and spend some time praying and meditating. Thanks again chicanella :)

I used to be like you too. But now, I definitely know what to watch out for because I used to laugh at guys pretending to be women doing vogue shows. I woke up like, "God, doesn't like this. Would he laugh at something like this?"

Yeah, you are right. I'm really bad at getting news in all together. Let me give you an example of why I should but rarely do frequent the ENT./Off Topic forums or any forum besides this one. Remember when Rihanna and Chris Brown were going through that little spat, when it first happened? Well, we already know that the news really isn't news like it should be and they focus alot on what's going on in the lives of celebrities. The reason I should know what's going on with them is because when it's something newsworthy, the local news station or another media outlet would be more likely to jump on the story.

I didn't find out what had happened with Rihanna and Chris till' about 1 week or more later. If I had found out right away, the story could have been marketed to a local news station that has a shelter for teenage girls in my home town that have children and some who've just come from abusive situations, home or romantic. It ties all in and makes it a human interest connection plus people, especially the younger generation are more likely to watch which means the newsstation is expanding their viewership.

The thing is: I really like pr. It's kind of weird in a way because I do like glitz and glammer, and I check to see what a celebrity is wearing thinking to myself, "Why aren't there any Christian celebrities dressing nicely?" It's like, I know these people are worldly but they always seem to dress the best when they are not half naked. I love style in makeup, home decor, clothing, entertaining also.
