View Full Version : How can I make my eye makeup stay put?

When I apply eyeliner/eyeshadow, it always smudges and gets messy. I'd really like for them to stay put. Is there a primer I should be applying? What products would you recommend? Thanks!

Urban Decay Primer potion beats any paint pot/paint or primer by M.A.C, sad to say. There is also a new product in a light blue/mint green tube at Sephora that is supposed to be better than UDPP. I've been doing makeup for years, and I've had the same problem as you OP, and UDPP wins!!

I love UPDD but it doesn't make my colors POP. I think I should start experimenting with Paint pots.

I cannot agree with you more!! I've tested them side by side too UDPP wins hands down over PPs.

^^^ Expensive but worth it. I can go out for long walks with the sun shining and my make-up still looks fresh afterwards. It's worth it.

I get your point. However, I'd rather have makeup that remains intact without that oily line that's missing eye shadow in the crease of my lid :))

I like TFSI (Too Faced). Comes in a tube, prefer it over UDPP container. Works well :)

Why not use UDPP and a Paint Pot at the same time?

HIP cream shadow paints also work as great bases. Really locks the color on your lid. :yep: It also doesn't fade.

The long way: Foundation, powder, base and lastly, shadow.
The short way: Primer. :)

I agree. I prefer Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I've never tried UDPP only because I don't want to waste my money on the wasteful packaging. If UDPP ever came in a tube, I would definitely check it out!

I plan to try the Too Faced soon. I rushed out and bought the UDPP (it comes in a tube), and it works great for me!
One *small* drawback: It doesn't always go on as smooth as I want/it's a bit gooey. But my shadow does last for a looooooooong time. Even through face time with my bf .

I use MOM (milk of magnesia) mixed with water as an oil blotter and I put it on my eyes as well before my concealer as a sort of oil blot/primer. I am going to order the Monistat Chafing gel though and try that out as I don't want to spend $17 on UDPP...

Thank you PH! I do them myself with a brow razor and sometimes I tweeze. I've gotten them done a few times (waxed) and each time, they mess them up. I don't have a natural arch, they grow straight across- thick, wild, and curly. I have to shape my brows to look like I have an arch. I've also tamed them throughout the years.
