Okay, so I've heard that they've changed the type of leather they are using for the classic Speedy bags (these are the ones I'm specifically interested in). I've heard that the leather doesn't change from the pinkish tan to the dark brown anymore. I've heard about it, I've tried to check it out online, but I can't find any information on it. Is this true?

Call a LV sales associate to find out. Can't help you with that question.

I was hoping that it was just a rumor because I think that's what adds to the charm of the bag for me... aside from the HUGE amount of space in them :)

the fact that the vachetta darkens is a HUGE factor in why people love that bag. i would be shocked if they changed it.
but then again, who knows. customers complain about the strangest things and people aren't a big fan of "stains" or having things look "old and used".
Def call an associate and let us know what they say!

The leather has changed. They now use a natural cowhide that does darken slightly but not to a honey patina like the old leather.

This is a pic of a Speedy with natural cowhide...it stains to a dark pinkish tan. http://www.eluxury.com/estore/browse/product_detail.jsp?id=10022844
I know this isn't a speedy but for the sake of demonstration, this bag shows the Vachetta Leather that was used in the past:

Now, you can see the difference. The cowhide will darken but not to the deep honey color like the Vachetta leather does. The change isn't new though. They changed it about 5 years ago I think. That's why I bought my Speedy from consignment.
HTH.

Yes, I do see the difference with this used natural cow hide bag that has darkened.
