Ok ladies,
I know that this is a bit personal but who cares right about now. Let me tell ya! This past October, I went to my GYN due to having very, very painful periods. I had a pap done and what comes up BV. I never had this before but he advised that it's very common in women and advised that I wear cotton panties, don't douche, no body washes down there and no feminie products down there. I was like ! Ok! Sooo...to help control the painful periods he advised me to try the IUD- Mirena. My suggestion was to donate the tubes to science. (They donate everything else) He told me that he will not do a historectomy unless necessary. OK, so I'll try anything to stop this ****cycle of mine. Unfortunately I started a new job in November therefore I had to postpone the IUD. So this past Monday I made the appointment to have the IUD inserted. Mind you I waited an hour and a half (popular doctor and fine to ) Nothing like a good looking man lookin at the cooch!
Sorry got off topic...anyway I get prepped, sign the consent form. He prepares and sticks that large shoe up my tail and said....have you noticed a discharge...just a light discharge. I said no because I haven't so he did a quick swipe and tested me....DAMMMNNNNN BV...I was pissed:wallbash:. I wanted to get the IUD. I had siked myself up and everything.
He told me that he couldn't insert the IUD because it would give me a very bad infection and possibly send my to the hospital. I asked where it could be coming from. I told him that I stopped the body washes and feminine products. I even where granny draws:look:. He then asked if I have protected sex. I said not with my husband...OOPS and then corrected that and said my husband and I have unprotected sex. He asked if he used body washes. I said yes. He said it's possible that it could come from him. He advised me to tell him to use the same soap as I do and cut out the body washes.
I asked if he would need to cut out the edible gels and sprays etc. He told me yes, it would benefit me. I was like :spinning::wallbash::blush::spinning::wallb ash:. UMMM is there anyway we can work around the extra fun activities. He said only if you want to continue to have this infection.
Mann all I can say is bad Kitty Kat:ohwell:.
I hope it don't get worse with age.:nono:

You can do a hydrogen peroxide douche to clear it up. There is a thread about it here.

You could also try Rephresh, over the counter gel. It keeps the PH balance of the vagina normal, and it's really beneficial for women that deal with reocurring BV and yeast infections.
Also, if your husband has a yeast infection (most men don't have symptoms and won't know it), he could pass it on to you during sex, and you won't get relief until he gets himself treated.
Hope that you find relief.

Everyone is different because if I eat a cup of yogurt daily, I GET a yeast infection! Could be from the sugar though. I stop eating yogurt - no yeast. :look:
As for BV, I had a partner that ALWAYS caused me to get BV. Never figured it out. I think it was something he was using 'down there' to wash with. Made me not want to be with him. When we used condoms, I was fine. Even then there were some condoms I would get irritated by and we had to switch - NOTE TO ALL - Don't use the scented or flavored ones, or the cheap free ones. vjj no likey. :nono:
Meanwhile with my last BF, NOTHING. No problems. Perfect, happy vjj for 5 years straight - never had BV.
So to sum it up, mine is sensitive, too. I cannot use a douche, either although I did try peroxide and filtered water. Doesn't work. Maybe for a little while. But, it comes back. Nothing fixed it for me but Flagyl. I would take one 2g dose and that did the job.
That stuff is horrible though. I am so careful now. I try to be proactive so i don't have to deal with that mess.

Try taking a full spectrum Probiotic supplement. All the meds do is kill all the good bacteria off along with the bad which means you'll get it again all the quicker as there's nothing in your system to fight it off. Here's a very good one: http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Probiotic-15-35

If you're going to take yogurt to fight yeast infections, it cannot be sweetened yoghurt. Has to be plain. But milk is also a candida support so if you find yoghurt isn't working for you, taking a probiotic is your best bet. (Kbragg...I LOVE your suggestion. Going to have to check it out...I hope PB8 doesn't find out I'm creeping. :look: )
OP you had me :lachen: when your doc asked if you have had sex w/o condoms and then you first said "not with my husband". (You need to stop going commando with strangers.   )
I do not think you should douche with anything at all. Get yourself a few books on safe but fun sex. You don't need to be putting foreign things all up in your canal to have fun. I haven't had a bubble bath in a long, long time because I can't have strange perfumes going up in there. I don't even think Refresh or Vagisil or any of those products can take the place of finding a cure so that your VJJ keeps things "correct" on its own.
I honestly think the world gets crazier by the day. More recurrences of the ailments that our mothers only had once in a blue moon. I think we're doing too many unnecessary things and consuming too much crap that makes us weaker as time goes by, so that we start to have problems that we might not have had before. Indeed hormones play a part, but also the human machine has a kink somewhere so that instead of addressing a problem and fixing it, it just succumbs to it and falls apart. Time to visit the Natural Living forum.

I think a folic acid supplement daily may help!

I agree with this to a certain extent, but I think that we see and hear about many issues and ailments just based on our excess to information and ways to communicate. I bet you plenty of women dealt with BV and Yeast, but they were not able to talk about it, and did not have something like and online forum or Google. I do think we have a kink, but I also think that we have become more aware and knowledgeable.

You might want to get your doctor to prescribe Vandazole. I had the same problem with getting BV. Being a women and the way our hormones can get off balance can be a beast especially if you are in your childbearing years like myself. I used Vandazole for 14 days at bedtime..After it cleared up I started taking a Probiotic supplement.
I hope you find something because I know how it can be. My doctor wanted to put me on Vandazole for 6 months, cause the BV kept coming and going. I was OH NO!!!...So I did my research and seen were taking the Probiotic supplement works and tired it.

Well, I don't know what's going on with me right now. It seems as if everytime I turn around I'm having some type of hormonal issue....I better prepare for the long.
See this is the part I don't like about being a woman.
Yes ma'am. I got my flagyl! :barf: and a giant tube of MN...good grief :ohwell:.
