I thought I was doing a good thing today. I burned my 600+ calories at the gym and was feeling really good about my self. I went and picked dd up from preschool @ lunch time and I wanted a tuna sandwich. So thinking how Jared lost all of his weight doing the subway diet, I ordered my tuna sub. I was trying to look up the calories on my Blackberry but the Javascript on the website was not letting me connect to it.

Do you know that this sandwich has 530 calories. I am so HEATED right now. It's like all that work is down the drain. I am so upset it makes me want to "Press Play" right now. I thought tuna was healthy:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Actually the work isn't down the drain. You exercised and your heart got a tad bit healthier and your muscles got a tad bit healthier as well.

Now in terms of whatever calorie intake and burn ratio you wanted to maintain...than yep today's ratio might just be down the drain.

But, your body has definitely benefited greatly.

And yes Subway Tuna sandwich is the devil. That is why I only get Turkey or the veggie patty.

I get the salad all the time and I don't think it's the debil. I think the bread roll is the debil. :sekret: ...says the girl who doesn't eat bread.:giggle:

Ummm Yeah!! that tuna salad is loaded w/ full fat mayo :perplexed.

I had read so much about how good the tuna at Subway is that one time I was in the hosp. and could not eat hosp food at all. I was reading so much on a low carb website about how great their tuna was. I asked my DH to go there on my way home from the hosp and I bought a foot long of that stuff. I was so disappointed when I finally ate it. I've never bought it again. Thankfully they must not make it here with the same recipe as all the other Subways.

Sorry that happened to you. Trying to eat better can be so tricky sometimes.

By the way, the bread that they have labeled as "wheat" is not 100% whole wheat bread. To my knowledge, it contains more white flour than wheat bread.

Yeah it's brown white bread like what you see in the grocery stores. If its not 100% whole wheat it most likely has enriched bleached flour. Whole grain does not equal whole wheat. Subway is all about the bread and tuff chewy whole wheat doesn't match their soft fluffy rolls.

I can go to town on a Subway Tuna but I have not stopped in a shop in years. I buy the Thomas English Muffin little pitas, a can of albacore on sale, quarter it, add red pepper flakes, slather it with SMART BALANCE MAYO, add some pickled red pepper slices, little olive oil and vinegar...I'm set for about 200 or so calories. You do not need all that bread. You can ask them to scoop out the insides of the bread if you still want that SUBWAY flavor.

Perhaps that is why they call the bread at Subway "wheat" and not "whole wheat". Not sure if that makes a difference. You really have to read the labels for everything. There is a LOT of bread that says wheat and the first thing on the ingredients list is "enriched" and goes on to list a whole bunch of stuff most can't pronounce. Anyway, I love Subway. I do however stay away from the Tuna. Usually anything creamy is not good. I stick with the Turkey and lots of veggies.

I had asked the sandwich maker it it had full fat mayo in it and he told me that it was reduced fat. (Not Necessarily reduced calories) So I was going off of his words which ruined my day of calories in and calories out. Guess I'll have to stick to my frozen meals.

Subway and Panera are NOT SAFE!!!!

IA- can't go wrong if you stick with the turkey, I usually get the "works" and count that as my serving of vegetables.

Imo, exercise doesn't necessarily cancel out what you're eating. So I don't think you should feel like your exercise was pointless. In situations like this, you compensate by eating less for the rest of the day. Meals that are mainly consisting of fibrous veggies + lean protein would probably be it for me if I were in your shoes. However, one "bad" meal or even a day isn't going to ruin your health and/or overall weight loss progress.

Imo, there's just a difference in mindset towards these situations when you're trying to obtain a healthier lifestyle vs dieting. Don't beat yourself up - consider it a great lesson learnt that will save your from bigger problems in the future. I learnt recently that it's near impossible to go through life without being in situations where you can't control the cals in food. Learning how to deal with this teaches you how to make wiser food choices and how to continue without beating yourself up. It allows you to see the bigger picture.

In regards to Subway, there are articles and tests out there stipulating that it isn't really that much healthier than McDonald's. The Jared story was excellent marketing spin and hype.

Yeah I used to kill those too.

It's the bread and the mayo that makes it the debil.

But everything in moderation...just not all the time.

If I'm counting calories or points I don't step foot in a Panera. I'll get turkey no cheese at Subway and hollow out the bread. It saves a ton of calories.

This came from eating McDonalds? I believe it too. I read in a book that Subway and Panera are just as bad as any other fast food. In fact, a lot of the sandwiches from those places are actually worse, more fatting and such. Seems like we cant win!

Many congrats on the weight loss :). I'm not even surprised you managed to lose whilst eating McD's. Imo, you can load your body with calories at a vegan healthy food joint yet eat fewer calories at a fast food chain. Obviously, although one place is healthier than another, when it comes down to just calories it's all about the choices you make as opposed to where you went to eat. Iirc, Uma Thurman said she lost weight mainly eating dessert.

With that said, not all people would get away with eating junk food regularly. Some studies show a meal with high amounts of carbs + fats together leads to increased fat storage. Plus all that sugar is a killer for many people - especially around the waistline. It all depends on your metabolism and overall genetics.

I totally agree. I was counting WW points at the time and what I love about their system is that you get dinged twice for eating high fat because you have to count fat grams and the 9 calories that come from the fat gram so it encourages you to eat lower fat food. At the same time if I didn't feel like having another grilled chicken I could have 6 mcnuggets :lick: for the same amount of points. Or i would get mc nugget happy meals with apple dippers. Total meal was around 5 or 6 points (250 -300 calories) can't remember exact amt. Also I dont eat beef which helps with the calorie/fat counting.

Is it just me or is MickeyD's the only place that won't let you sub the fries in the adult meals? (not to hijack the tread or anything)
