Is it just me? Or has Milani started focussing their marketing elsewhere? I walked into CVS the other day and was caught off guard by the Milani display and advertising. It seems "women of color" are no longer their target audience. Am I being hyper alert?:ohwell::perplexed:blush: You tell me...

So many "non women of color" started wearing Milani that they would be fools not to welcome that money. If you go on Specktra you will see a lot of talk about Milani.

That's upsetting. Like there aren't already enough cosmetic lines that mainly cater to them. But like Dayjoy said, I have seen a lot of talk about Milani on Specktra and MUA.

Well damn, I noticed most of the displays in my local CVS and Walgreens stores were phasing out the darker colors of foundations and powder also. That's too bad because Milani was a brand I would check before other drugstore or department store brands.
Not one women of color in that ad :nono:

I thought it was just me. I did notice that yt were over there picking up things. Also when I went to look for some powder they didn't have my color. I said well I guess I'll stick with MAC then.

I totally noticed what you all are talking about when I was making my stocking up the house/beauty cabinet rounds last week.
Out of habit, I perused the cosmetics aisle when I stopped by my neighborhood CVS, and there were no women of color on the displayed artwork. I thought, "hmmm, that's different..."
When I stopped by my local BSS, I checked the Milani display purely out of curiosity, and there were still Black and Hispanic women on the artwork.
Anyhoo, I called Milani customer service today, and asked whether they were shifting the brand's focus from the woman of color consumer. After being transferred, I was told that "as far as I know, it [Milani] is still an ethnic line"
As an aesthetician/makeup artist, I find it SOOOO annoying that the OTC m/u choices for WOC are so limited. I guess we shall see w/ Milani...

For the past year or so its been hard to find drugstore brands that go to the darker spectrum..which is why I stopped going anywhere near them

I noticed at CVS they are phasing out all of the deep/dark shades powder and foundation shades.
CVS has been doing that for years with most of their brands. They won't carry anything darker than a honey shade unless it's a new product. That's why I switched to MAC powder and foundation from CoverGirl when I was a teenager. I couldn't find my shade anywhere anymore. They stopped carrying it. Not at CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Target, etc. That was at least 7 or 8years ago.
ETA: But you know what I wonder if it's because those items weren't selling at the time. Stores will stop carrying items that are not being bought. Think about how many black women you know who don't wear makeup. Now compare that to the amount of white women who don't wear makeup. Cosmetics companies are trying to make money. And if a lot of women of color do not wear makeup (especially foundation and powder), then that would have made sense to pull the shades (if that happened to be the whole darker half of the spectrum) that were not selling and were taking up prime space on the sales floor. It's not right and it sucks for those of us who do wear makeup but they are about $$$.
I've noticed that I see darker colors in the drugstore more often now but there still aren't that many outside of Black Radiance, Black Opal, etc. I think that it will change over time though now that a lot more black women are into makeup now. And I really think that's because we now have more viable options. Plus makeup has come back into fashion partly because of celebrity endorsments of MAC and Covergirl's Queen collection. When I was a teen 8-10 years ago the black girls did not wear makeup outside of super shiny clear lipgloss. I was one of few. Now you see black teens with the bright eye shadow, colored lip gloss, etc. It's in right now and a number of lines have expanded to cater to us as a result.
