What is it about that makeup that makes me fall for their stuff every time?
I don't understand it.

I'm walking in the mall...minding my business. I just so happened to look in the store to see what they had. I had promised myself that I was NOT going to buy one thing. I even walked past the daggone store at first. Then as I was walking out I decided to look in. Just to browse.

I can't believe I walked out of there with more stuff. I just walked out of there a few weeks ago with some stuff. I even bought some of that damned Hello Kitty stuff...BUT, in my defense it looked MUCH different in person than online. I only purchased the two palettes (in addition to the large load of other crap I bought).

Sigh. I think I have a problem. :lachen:

I am convinced M.A.C's marketing team are the best of the best. They also know their customers are loyal and will purchase almost anything they release. You're not alone.

You are not lying, and the sales folks are awesome. They can talk me into anything (not that it would take much work).

Don't feel bad. I went in for the Hello Kitty Purse mirror. I ended up with that, Studio sculpt foundation and concealer and the nail polish.

Sounds like we need an intervention.

Nah. I'm good. LOL.

Why is Lavender Whip (Cremesheen lipstick) so popular? I went to the MAC in SoHo just to see it. The MA was like "Ya, it's sold out. Was it in a magazine and that's why everyone bought it?" So ya, my question is, ladies :giggle:...Where did you hear about LW (other than the MAC emails...did a YouTube makeup goddess rave about it?) and why did you buy it?

Honey, you don't have a problem, you just need to stop going to the mall when they have the sales going on! They know that once you're there, they got you!! You will spend some money, on purpose or by accident.:lachen: Don't feel bad, they always get me too, and we're not the only ones!

I heard about it months ago on Specktra. They always have the info on upcoming collections. At first I wasn't going to buy it b/c it seemed like my lips were going to end up looking ashy. However, I saw a vid on YT that changed my mind. It's truly a gorgeous color!

Funny, I was just reading a long intellectual thread at Specktra on MAC's marketing. Warning, it is LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG, but an excellent read, and really helped calm down my MAC cravings. For now anyway!

http://www.specktra.net/forum/f165/mac-hype-our-roles-consumers-105942/

Executive Summary:
MAC saves marketing dollars by making consumers its unpaid ambassadors. Actually, WE PAY THEM by buying their products and convincing each other to do so as well! Then they hook us in with the constant LE collections (as many as 50+ a year) which builds up a fear (rightfully so sometimes) that if we don't buy right away, it will be gone! They also control the supply by making limited amounts to build up even more hype (remember that darn Indian collection that came out a couple months ago? It sold out in less than a day). :wallbash:

The result, women charging MAC on their cards when they should be paying their bills, collecting 100 lipglasses that will go bad in 2 years (50 of which are just about the same color), etc. etc.

Sorry to get so deep, but it woke me up...for a minute. :look: I just really need to stay out of the mall. I'm not strong enough to give up the MU board and my YT makeup tutorials though. I'm convinced some of those girls are getting paid by MAC. Or...maybe they're caught up in the hype too????

I also wonder why 1 product out of a collection gets WAY more love than the others. People go crazy over it and that 1 thing sells out. Like the Spiced Chocolate quad... I mean it's nice, don't get me wrong, but it's made of colors that are dupable. Anyway, I don't know what it is about the LW, BUT I called my MAC store and they had 7 left. I got all 7 and will be selling them on ebay since everyone is going so crazy over them, why not get my cha ching on.:look:

To answer your question, I first heard about it on youtube. I never even thought about it until then.

I don't know why everyone is hyped up about Lavendar Whip. I just saw it in the advertisement and thought it was a GORGEOUS purply lavendar, just a very unique color. Maybe that's why?

That's what I've been seeing people saying.. that they didn't have another lippie color like it. I'll see when they get here tomorrow, I may keep one for myself.

He asked could he play with me :perplexed: I was already lookin kute that day, and after he was done with me I looked like WOOOOAH...I just had to buy it. They have their game on lock!!

Butterfly08: I read that thread (which got long and slightly heated) and they ain't neva lied! They use little advertising (although I just saw an ad in the March In Style) and still sell out. We just eat it up! Sometimes I think Specktra's founders have an interest (financial) in MAC.

About the Lavender Whip: The MUA at the MAC counter told me, "Anytime you see something different, you know it is gonna go fast." But LW is not ALL THAT different from Fashion Mews or Melrose Mood or that other one I can't think of:spinning: (not saying they are THE SAME but you get the picture). We THINK it's "different" now and then add some hype and Youtubers and Specktra and BOOM-- sold out! I know I got my tube!!

ETA: Chignon, Up the Amp...maybe even others.

I think you're right about Specktra. I mean HOW do they get pics before the prototypes are even done? Either MAC employees are leaking the information or they're in bed with MAC. PERFECT marketing ploy, very inexpensive. I'm actually taking a marketing management class right now so this is kind of interesting to me. Seriously companies spend A LOT OF MONEY doing market research, and it's like MAC can have their own little lab with Specktra. Conspiracy theory? :sekret: I think not!
