Alright I was all set to try some drug store removers because it's getting to expensive to replace my MAC Gently Off. I go through a bottle every 2 - 3 months (although I drag it out and used other less effective stuff because I knew how much it'd cost to replace).

So while surfing YT for reviews on other removers, I ran across several homemade recipes. My concoction is 1/2 bottle of water, then several squirts of jojoba, castor and almond oil, with one squirt of baby shampoo.

Ladies, this melted...MELTED off my fluidline! http://www.adobecomputers.com/forum/images/smilies/bouncy.gif Of course the shadow was gone in one or two swipes. http://www.adobecomputers.com/forum/images/smilies/yahoo%20(8).gif I had to hold it over my lashes for several seconds but the mascara was gone too without any scrubbing!!!! YAY I CAN WEAR MASCARA EVERY DAY NOW! http://www.adobecomputers.com/forum/images/smilies/cheering.gif Before I HATED the removal process!

Best of all my lashes felt soft and conditioned! http://www.adobecomputers.com/forum/images/smilies/bow1.gif I did rinse my eye area very well because I got a little whitehead before from too much oil. But I am so stoked! http://www.adobecomputers.com/forum/images/smilies/hyper.gif

The crazy thing is I had just stocked up on these oils for my hair. It is so awesome to know that for less the cost of one MAC cleanser that lasts 2 months, I bought 3 different oils for so many different purposes - hair, nails, skin, and now eye makeup remover! http://www.adobecomputers.com/forum/images/smilies/flower2.gif

Ooohh good idea. I am tired of waiting to have a coupon plus BOGO on maybelline so that I can buy those wipes. :lachen: I am so cheap when it comes to makeup remover, and I have all of this stuff at home.

Ladies please try it! http://www.adobecomputers.com/forum/images/smilies/ylflower.gif Even if it doesn't work for your eyes, as long as you leave out the baby shampoo you can always squirt it on your hair for some extra moisture! Actually most recipes used just the oil and water for waterproof makeup and the shampoo and water for regular makeup. I wanted both to quickly cut through my stubborn fluidlines.

Sounds really good. I might have to try this. I hate taking off mascara too.

Thanks for the tip!

Excellent! Although I love using EVOO (Olive Oil) and I love it's benefits; you can't go wrong with those three ingredients, the Jojoba and Almond Oil and the baby shampoo.

I see a visit to the Dollar Store for some nice plastic containers to keep your solution in. The squirt tip bottles sound great for storing and applying your cleanser in.

Excellent Post Butterfly08  . You are helping a lot of women/students who use MAC and need a budget.

Not everyone loves EVOO as much as I do, so this a wonderful post for you to share. We all have our preferences and I love learning about them.

Hugs and blessings :giveheart:

I tried pure oil before, and while it's very effective, it gets in my eyes and makes them blurry. I wear contacts so maybe I'm just extra sensitive. How do you use it straight without getting it into your eyes?

Aww, you're so sweet! I hope it works out for you. I made a little batch just in case - and also there's no preservatives so I'd prefer to make small batches every few weeks instead of one big bottle.

I just rub it on and wipe it off with a baby wipe. I never do it with contacts in though so the oil getting in my eyes dosen't last or bother me. If I had contacts in I probably wouldn't do it.

You've made an excellent choice. :yep:

Jojoba oil is one of the closest to 'Whale Sperm Oil" which has so many healing properties in it. It's one of the main reasons Whales became an endangered species. Here's part of an article on it. I've read serveral.

http://www.naturaloils.com/jojoba.html

Native Americans of the Southwest have traditionally used Jojoba Oil for the treatment of wounds, skin afflictions, and hair tonics, as well as a cooking oil. Hundreds of years if not millenniums later, scientists in the early 1930's, started documenting its beneficial properties of the "golden amber liquid".

Jojoba Oil has remarkable similarities to Sperm Whale Oil and has taken its place. Once heavily used in cosmetics and industrial processes, Sperm Whale oil was banned by the Endangered Species Act of 1971.

Bottomline: Butterfly08, You have created a cleanser with an excellent ingredient.

As for using Olive Oil (or any straight oil) with contacts, it's very difficult to do so without getting it into your eyes. Not everyone can use or will like straight Oils for cleansing. I'm just one of the few who does. :yep: Just do what's right for you. I like your new recipe. :yep:

I love :love4: EVOO. I use it for so many things. I use it as a regular face cleanser almost daily.

Butterfly has a good recipe though. :yep: The girls in my Dance group will love it. They go through MAC like it's water, because of so many Dance performances and costuming.

They think I'm crazy for using EVOO, but I love it anyway.

Blessings Pokahontas... :giveheart:

Ok thanks Pokahontas and Shimmie. Yeah maybe the fact that I wear contacts makes me more sensitive. Thanks also for the info on jojoba. I used to use it a while ago and only stopped because it's a little more expensive than the other oils. I will definitely keep it in my concoction.

This sounds like an excellent recipe. I'm moving and just realized I ran out of makeup remover so I'll get this a try. I'm excited just thinking about all of the $$ I'll save :yep:

I finally ran out of my first tester batch and about to whip up a slightly larger batch. Still happy about not having to fork over $18+ to MAC.
