I hope that this will free some of you laides like it freed me.

On January 5th I was listening to Drs. Sunyatta and Baruch on the Michael Baisden show. They were talking about women's cycles and saying that if our cycles were longer than three days there was a problem. My ears perked up because I normally have a very painful, 7-8 day cycle. When I say painful I mean to the point that I can't walk, can't stand to even take a shower and can't hold down my food. That's putting it mildly. I am almost certain that the amount of pain I have can be compared to childbirth (and I don't have children). :ohwell:

They continued to say that long, painful periods can be attributed to meat, dairy and eggs. In my mind I'm thinking that this can't be. But the more they talked the more it made sense. These poor animals are injected with steroids, antibiotics and estrogen to make them produce large amounts meat, eggs and milk that we consume. If you've ever seen a chicken walking around with ten wings you know something isn't right. If it can do that to the animal imagine what it's doing to us. The thought is that the estrogen in the animals is throwing our horemones out of wack. Hmmm.

So, on January 5th, I decided I would test the theory. I went vegetarian. I haven't had meat, eggs or milk since then. When I tell you that my last period was 3.5 days and pain free... I am so happy about the way that my body feels now!! I've lost weight, feel energized, have regular BM's and a period I thought only existed in dreams. I will never go back to meat!

Vegetarianism isn't for everyone. I acknowledge that. But I challenge you to limit the amount of meat, dairy and eggs that you consume. You will feel better in so many ways.

I can testify to the fact that meat played a major part in my painful cycles! For me it took about 6 months for the meat to run out of my system and now I am so much better. I could not do anything for at least 24 hours and everything was coming out of me from both ends (TMI )!

Its now 14 years later and while I still eat chicken I would like to give it up too. I tried vegetarian for 6 months and all was well but I did it all wrong and b/c of my lack of protein I decided to add chicken back into my diet. However, when I did I start getting minor to almost major cramps. So one day when I’m strong enough I will get rid of the chicken.

Also, be careful of gelatin! Its made out of beef and can be found in jello, candy, capsules and various foods. If have even the smallest amount I pay heavy price for it.

ETA: My cycle has always been 3 - 4 days max! With or without meat.

That's great you made a lifestyle change for your health!
Some folks go straight for the drugs, when often changing your diet and lifestyle will take care of the problem.
Everything we put in our bodies effects us. We have to mindful of this everyday.

I too had painful cramps. I took Iodoral, an iodine supplement. Iodine has been known to balance hormone problems. When my next cycle came, I didnt even notice at first I was on my period. No pain or sensation whatsover!! I use to have to lay in bed for days. Not anymore. HTH too

I had dysmenorrhea too. When I changed my diet my cramps became a non-issue. The only time they get them bad (long, hard and heavy) is when I'm eating too much junk (not just meat/diary/eggs). My cycle length also changed to ... from 20 days to 24.

hmm interesting. I never thought of that. I first had my period when i was 10. and I never suffered from cramps.. But as soon as i turned 20, somehow i started having cramps so painful like it was making up for all the previous years i didnt have it. So i wonder why that started to happen to me.

Ok So i have a question. Do seafoods (meat?) like fish go through the same thing like receiving estrogen etc,, the same way the land animals receive?

Although i have been cutting off meat but seafood, because for some reason i dont like the taste of chicken and such.. I still want to keep eatin fish and shrimp, so i can get some protein in my body.

Oh and by the way my period last 7-10 days.. And i'm serious when i say that my menstrual cycle is 60 days or more. The only time it became normal was when i took the BP for 3 months. So what give?

They continued to say that long, painful periods can be attributed to meat, dairy and eggs.

And don't forget, the consumption of too much sugar will also contribute to menstrual cramps.

That explains a lot. I had a 6-7 days of hell period before I had my daughter, but since I stopped breastfeeding and my cycle became regualr again it's been 3-4 days of little to no pain. I wonder if switching to antibiotic and hormone free eggs, milk and beef would help. I'm not ready to go completely meat free yet.

I was a vegan for 2 years, and a vegetarian since 07. I honestly was still having really bad cramps and nausea until I cut sodas, fast food (fries, pizza), access sugar, stress, and drunk more water. I really don't think that meat has much to do with menstrual cycles, because all meat isn't filled with hormones and steroids. You don't have to be a vegetarian though it is good, buying organic meat or cutting fast fatty foods should help. Also vigorous exercise during your cycle helps alot, at least for me it did. Now I don't have cramps or nausea at all.
