I personally don't think women of color look right with makeup like foundations and similar types of concealers....well in magazines it's different..... but up close it so obvious to me when women of color are wearing it..the skin tone always looks orange and unatural to me...

light skin is different on most caucasian people I can't tell they are wearing makeup.... now of course there are exceptions to this like when it is obvious that a pale cream is covering a big red scar...

now me personally I have some acne scaring and I hate it, I wish I could cover it up with makeup but I would rather have the acne show than look orange..

I do use a little concealer just on the spots but that always fades and I think when people look at me they can see the orange tone where the concealer is but they ignore it....

I remember once talking to my derm about my acne and he once suggested I use makeup and I just sighed.....

Have you tried the MAC concealer that comes in a little pot? It's THICK. That stuff ain't going nowhere!

Not only is it extremely challenging for women of color to find the right shade, they also have to understand the correct application of the foundation/powder, and they have to use the right tools to blend evenly. Makeup should help accent your original beauty and shouldn't be caked on. I apply my makeup with a light hand and use foundation only to even out my skintones. W/o makeup, my face is about 2 shades lighter than my neck and body (which I hate!). Foundation (when applied correctly) should give the appearance of a more polished look, not a fake face.

Some women like the heavy makeup look. But yes, I agree that many women of color look strange w/ makeup on if its not applied correctly. The colors often look unnatural.

Finding the right shade is difficult for any person- black, white or otherwise. The trick is finding the right color for you. :yep: Natural-looking makeup can be achieved. It's just that there's a lot of hitting and missing in the quest to finding what works.

If the makeup is the correct shade and applied properly you should not be able to tell. Clearly those people you saw didn't do something right.

How does one know......... It's simple, you see them all the time right. They need to look in the mirror and lighting is important as well. If you need help, go get color matched at a makeup counter.

The people you see are wearing the wrong color and more than likely, applying it wrong. But I wear concealer from time to time and you can't tell.
