My new job requires a 3 block walking commute from car to building. I end up looking a dowdy mess at work. I wear a hat, boots, bundled from head to toe. How do you outdoor commuting ladies stay stylish dealing with the outside elements in the winter?! :ohwell:

I have a 3 block walk from the subway to my building and I think I'm pretty stylish. I tend to favor wool, tweed or cashmere coats that are functional and stylish instead of puffer or down style coats...hats (beret or newsboy styles)...cute pashmina type scarfs....and boots/shoes that are stylish yet comfy enough to wear all day without needing to change shoes (usually knee boots with a pointy or almond shaped toe and low heels). I NEVER wear sneakers and socks like I see other ladies doing. :nono: Truly stylish women tend find a way to be comfy and cute at the same time. :yep:

^^^I agree.
- First find you some comfortable heels, even if they're low heels at the moment.
- I wear headbands; I'm in a humid city and just cannot play with random moist hair blowing in my hair. I just make sure to keep some hair forward. If you have longer hair, buns or low pony's are nice, as long as there is some hair forward
- Oh, and I don't do hats. I just do earmuffs instead. This works especially well if you're already doing a headband. And I just accent and bundle up w/ cute scarfs

I agree. All my winter hats are berets or newsboys. I don't do skull caps or knits. Plus, with some newsboys you have more options for pinning your hair up and taking it down at work without having to worry about static cling hair.
Wool, cashmere or blends are warm and sleek. J-Crew has a wide variety made with "Thinsulate".
My issue is I still have not figured out the winter boot thing! I have plenty of "cute" boots. These of course are not the type to wear out in a foot of snow and salt. This weather is kicking my butt.
I spent almost two hours on Zappos before my eyes started to hurt looking for a winter boot that is (1)somewhat stylish (2) not incredibly expensive (3) does not look I am in Colorado etc. I just have a hard time spending money on a "winter boot" i.e probably flat heel boot.
I did see a pair by Timbaland and Uggs that I somewhat liked. Previously, all I knew of these brands were that guys wore Tim's and Uggs were the snow bunny boots.

Thanks Daephae!
I actually just came in from doing some after Christmas shopping. Funny, I bought a pair similar to the Tretons you posted. They are also a wedge heel by Blondo. I am not really familiar with the brand, but the guy at Nordstrom suggested them. I had all but given up at the point. I had even tried on a pair like the ones you have from Piperlime at Macy's earlier today. I was not too crazy about the "equestrian" style, but I was willing to purchase them. However, the sales associate there messed up that sale so I kept it moving.

When I had my internship in NY it was about a 6 block walk to the building. I always brought along really cute flats in case my feet hurt. I only changed them if my heels became uncomfortable.
I need to find some really cute newsboy hats. I bought one from NY and Co and I guess with all my hair and wig my head was too big and it didnt fit!

I know exactly how you feel... I live in Chicago and the winter here is brutal and I hate being cold :nono:. Once inside the office I'm usually still cold so I usually wear sweaters w/collar shirts underneath. I purchase lots of long sleeve shirts and the shirts w/short sleeves you best believe I have a jacket to go along with it... :ohwell:

I can't help you because I live in Chicago and it ain't no cute without freezing your butt off!
I work downtown and I see women with their stylish fits freezing their butts off! Me...I have the long bubble coat, hat with ear flaps, gloves, scarf worn over my mouth sometimes and some snow boots! When I get inside I have a sweater over whatever I wear. I'm sorry warmth takes precedent over style for me any day :D

I know that's right!! See, I live in Cleveland and our downtown is right on Lake Erie...so I'm --->Here<--- with you on the lake effect Wind Chill tearing us up!! I basically dress like a polar bear also...but wondered if any of the other ladies battling the cruel elements still kept it funky. :look:

A fly coat! I love Mackage coats. I alternate between several Mackage coats, a ruffle trim Jcrew coat, and pea coat w/ an inner thermal layer.
Then I layer stuff underneath, but at least the outside remains cute looking.
Cashmere lined gloves.
Hat.
Warm boots. I love Born and Frye particularly. I have a pair of flat knee high boots by Born that keep me incredibly warm and once I get to work I can change into heels.
:look:
I also have a pair of Coach moon boot thingies in black that are INCREDIBLY warm.
