I want to try mineral makeup, but I'm not sure that my pockets are ready for Bare Minerals/BE.

What's your favorite brand of drugstore and higher end mineral makeup?

Also, if you've tried or use B.Minerals/Escentuals, what are your thoughts?

I am a true believer in mineral makeup. Friends that I see only every so often are convinced that I don't wear makeup and have flawless skin. If only they knew the real deal, lol!

I began wearing BE Bare Minerals a little less than three years ago, and loved it right away. It was the only foundation I would wear daily (I would use it as my setting powder when I needed to wear liquid/creme foundation for special occasions), and as I said above, would receive compliments on my skin. The only problems I have with BE is that it does not last long (periodic reapplication needed throughout the day) and it is loose (can get very messy and make reapplication during the day a hassle).

Then my roommate turned me onto to Pur Minerals, which is sold only at ULTA. The thing that sold me is that it comes in a pressed compact. My colors match perfectly between the two brands. I use BE when first applying makeup in the morning, and Pur throughout the day for touchups. And when I wear the Pur by itself (usually on weekends) it creates a look just as flawless and natural as BE, but it just doesn't have as great of coverage for those days when my skin is being finicky, which is why I can't use it as my only foundation.

If you don't need that much coverage, I would go with Pur Minerals. It's only a couple of bucks cheaper than BE, but it's still a couple of bucks.

Sorry for the novel.:yep:

I also got complimented on my flawless skin the other night :look:
I use BE and love it, but I would like to experiment. I agree that it is messy but it's a good trade off for flawless looking skin that doesn't look like I have on a face full of makeup.

I really love Cover FX, but my shade is out at every Nordstrom & Sephora in the world--literally, and they are the only stores that carry it. So of course it's not on their website. I went to Ulta this morning to try Pur Minerals and I like the coverage. The colors were tricky for me though. I bought tan and it looks a little ghosty to me but it may be the closest match for me but it may not. The next shade I would try is Medium Dark, but they didn't have a tester for me to try. :( Anywhoo, the product itself covers well, blends pretty nicely and doesn't irritate my sensitive skin.

Has anyone tried the perscriptives brand? I love perscriptives but don't know if it's worth it

When I wore them regularly I loved Meow Mineral (www.meowcosmetics.com) they have TONS of shades and different levels of consistencies/coverage.
I'm an MAC NC 42 -44, for reference, and my shades were:

Abyssinian (Yellow Beige)
#4 Fierce for the winter
#5 Slinky for the summer

I used the "Flawless Feline" coverage (full) but I ALWAYS wear my makeup *very* sheer. Full coverage foundations tend to have more pigment so you need very little for a sheer, natural look. Plus, this formula held up well and didn't dry my VERY DRY skin out at all.

I also loved Alima Minerals (www.alimapure.com) they were gawgus! I wore Golden 6 or Golden 7 with a tan. Both companies offer very cheap samples! I don't know why I stopped wearing them (I guess I was used to liquids) but they had beautiful, sheer finishes I'm going to order some samples. :-)

I may try the PUR at Ulta tomorrow to see if I like it. :yep: I tried GLO minerals in my derm's office which is also in a compact and didn't feel the coverage was as good as loose mineral powder. But I do like the idea of being able to carry the compact for touchups without worrying about the mess.

This is the black chick's company, right? How did you find the right shade, with the samples?

I am 29 years old. I started experimenting with makeup since about 16. I was NEVER happy. I have tried so many different types of makeup and they just piled up after using it only a few times. After 13 years, I tried BE, and LOVE it. For the first time in my life, I wear makeup EVERY DAY cause I like the way it looks. I love the fact that I look like I am not wearing makeup. And no pimples if you sleep in it.

There was a time that I DESPISED Bare Minerals and loved Philosophy Supernatural. I recently tried Bare Minerals over a primer, and LOVE IT. I get compliments on my skin now. I realize now that LESS is more with Bare Minerals. You don't need as much as you think, and the less you use the better it looks!

Even when I see pics of my myself, I say "wow, my skin looks good" :)

Truly airbrushed.

I like Pur Minerals pretty good. My shade is "dark". Catch is that there aren't too many to even choose from...

I'm back with a li'l update. :) So I took back my PUR minerals and got the next darkest shade--there was no tester in the store remember. I got it home and it just wasn't working for me. It looked chalky like the other shade. So it is going back. Meanwhile, I went to Sephora today and we tried several, but the winner was Philosopy Supernatural. I really really like it so far. :yep:

Anyone who is checking out this thread trying to decide on a mineral powder, you should know that Merle Norman Luxiva Mineral Powder has gotten rave reviews from makeupalley members. I may end up trying that one too, but this Philosophy has made me pretty content. :yep:

Thanks ladies. I wasn't crazy about BE. I tried it twice. I liked it a little more the second time around.

Seems like mineral makeup works best if you don't need coverage for blemishes.

I'm a tad darker than glamazon386 and I know BE came out with darker colors but they look ashy on me and they don't look natural. I really want to try crushed grooves but I don't even want to pretend to like buying something like that online w no sample. I would buy it online if I knew my shade but I don't.. I still haven't tried mineral makeup
