As the title says, I'm looking for some casual clothes and I'm stuck between trendy and plain right now. I despise the trendy lines right now b/c I don't want to be a walking poster child for a line and some things look too teen age-ish to me.
I'm looking for some cute casual wear that looks more mature but not something my mother would wear.:ohwell: I love looking online first but I'm open to any stores in the atlanta area also.
TIA! Have a great day ladies!

you'll probably get more response on the fashion forum. I don't know where you live, but Saks has an outlet - off 5th, Neiman Marcus last call, Loehmann's. These are my favs for business suits, slacks, blouses, etc.

I am an Ann Taylor girl I especially love the Ann Taylor Loft. Another option is Anthropologie or Colors of Benneton. Each of these stores have websites for purchases except colors of Benneton. I feel you on the casual look though I just turned thirty.

I'm 23 and I don't like super trendy items either, but I don't wanna look old timey. LOL
I 2nd the Ann Taylor Loft, I have found cute tops & work blouses there. I also like Banana Republic and the Limited.
I would say New York & Co, but they keep making everything in those shiny Polyester:ohwell: fabrics. I don't like Polyester.
I used to do express years ago, every once in a while I will find something, but their quality has made a drastic drop. IMO Good Luck

I have the SAME issue. :yep: In addition to New York & Co. and Banana Republic, I shop at Old Navy. In my experience, they have a good selection of simple, work-appropriate attire and casual clothes. I generally get my jeans from Express because they have a wider variety of sizes and "short" jeans that are actually made for short people. :look: I don't get too much else from Express because they've gotten a little too "trendy" as of late. :ohwell:

It's funny that when I read the title of this thread I just thought "Baby, you've got the rest of your life to be mature - enjoy being 27 now", but I understand. There is an online store called Metrostyle.com that has varying categories of clothing ranging from business to denim to out on the town. The prices are excellent. Then there is also Newpoint-News.com that always has a sale. These stores are in affiliation with Spiegel's, which is a little more pricey, but still is very affordable. You can also shop by category from the Spiegel.com website and shop according to fabric line. They also have a clearance category and usually sales going on as well.

the easiest thing to do is pick a celeb who's style you like and then shop for affordable pieces of those looks. i used to rip pages from magazines and use those pages as a sort of style shopping list.
its also a good idea to invest in quality accessories. older women with style tend to wear things that 'go' whereas younger women tend to focus on 'matching'. fuschia shoes with the fuschia sweater and fuschia eye makeup. each of these things individually may not be bad, but all together it just screams junior. ya know?
one good every day bag, a good pair of leather soled shoes or boots a nice watch, etc this stuff doesn't have to be expensive but it should be quality e.g. lined blazers, nicely tailored pants.
for staples, everyone else had good suggestions, the limited, ann taylor, j crew, banana. then spice it up with the trendy pieces. one trend per outfit. and you will look like a young woman with style and class. not necessarily older, but maybe more sophisticated.
