View Full Version : When do you eat?

My dinner time depends on when I eat lunch. If I eat lunch at 12, I eat dinner at 6. If I eat lunch at 1:32, I can’t eat dinner until at least 7:32. :ohwell: I have to have 6 hrs between meals and I’ll have a snack in between. But I find that most times I’m hungry before the time I’m ‘supposed’ to eat and when I finally get to that time, I’m so hungry I end up overeating.:wallbash:

So I’m trying to force myself to eat when I’m hungry instead of sticking to my stupid rules.

Do you eat when you’re hungry or do have specific times?

I generally try to eat when I'm hungry. This turns out to be about every 3 to 3.5 hours for me. Skipping meals or going too long between them also made me overeat too much and overeat junk food.

Same here. If I wait too long, I always overeat, especially at dinner time.

When I am hungry. I maintain my weight much easier and can eat whatever I want when I do that. Somedays it's a lot, somedays it's a little but it all balances out.

Exactly
may I suggest that you just eat every 2 or 3 hours.. whenever your body says to eat? You will feel a lot less hungry that way, and you won't over eat at dinner.

For optimum health, and weight maintenance, (to keep your metabolism revved up) you should be eating every 2 to 3 hours.

If you start putting long breaks in between eating, your body goes into fasting mode, which is why you want to over eat at other periods.

One trick I learned was to evenly divide all your meals.
If you're supposed to be eating 1500 calories per day, then have 5 meals a day at 300 calories, every 3 hours, see how your body reacts to that.
You should feel satisfied All Day Long..

if that doesn't work, play around with the numbers,
say 400 in the morning, 150 for snack 2 hours later, lunch at 350 calories, etc...

hth.

This is probably the best way to eat. I try to eat every 2-3 hours, but this doesn't seem to be working out for me as far as trying to lose weight.

Do any of you ladies stop eating when you're full even if it means not cleaning your plate?

I eat when I'm hungry, and I always stop eating when I'm sated. If there is still food on my plate, it either goes in a container for lunch or a snack later, or it goes in the trash. Cleaning your plate is just a bad idea, esp. if your body is already telling you it's sated. Think of every extra bite as going DIRECTLY to your belly and hips, no matter how 'healthy' the food might be.

this sounds like me. I wake up earlier because of school but still will not eat first until around 1pm. My snack is around midnight because my husband comes home from work and eats his dinner and that makes me eat again. then I go to sleep around 2am

Yes, I try to stop when I am full and pick up again when I get hungry. Sometimes it just tastes so good though...

This is what I want to do but I'm afraid I'll just end up overeating every 2-3hrs instead of 6.:perplexed

I eat when I'm hungry (if it's possible--sometimes it just can't be done), which is typically every 3 hours or so. I let my body lead instead of sticking to "rules."

I lost a lot of weight by just not cleaning my plate every time I sat down to eat. I made a deal with myself to eat when I was hungry, to stop when I started feeling full and to not even bother when the food didn't taste good. I went from being concerned with wasting food to not wasting calories. Instead, I split meals up, baggy extra portions, get half portions.
