I have very oily skin and large pores...how do you deal with this?

I also have very oily skin and large pores. My original plan was just to deal with it until I reach my 30's (supposedly your skin normalizes and becomes less oily at that point). Now I'm 31 one and my skin still acts like a teenagers. I've tried all types of treatments but nothing has worked for me so far. :ohwell:
Hopefully someone can offer some good advice in this thread!

My friend has oily skin and it seems that using no moisturizer and washing her face without products just lukewarm water and a clean face cloth (using a new one each wash) has made a difference to her skin. You'd never tell has oily skin. I don't even see the big pores that seem to go hand in hand with oily skin.

I have very large thanks to my wonderful dad, amazingly enough my brothers didn't get it at ALLL!!
enough of my bitterness. I am 34 and have had 17 yr old skin for the longest.
I can literally wipe the oil from my t-zone off of my face-nasty I know:nono:
Anyway, I use panoxyl soap every morning and witch hazel . every evening I do the panoxyl soap but i also follow with castor oil/olive oil mix to get the rest of the makeup/ etc out, the castor oil get into your pore and pops out impurities and extra sebum(oil) that may be in there. then I use a hot towel to steam my face twice. after that I top w/ moisturizer. It works for me.
I also have changed my birth control. I live in Atlanta and my dermatologist was aghast as to the BC I was on- contributes to oil production therfore pimples. Now with my new perscription I dont break out as much.
I also had to let go of those myths too- chocolate makes you breakout, grease breaks you out, not true!

yep. my pores are the size of dump trucks. you can see 'em from miles away. my skin tends to be on the oily side, too, so my face constantly has issues. exfoliating with exfoliating gloves has helped clear up any acne scars i've gotten over the years... but i don't think there's much i can do to halt the oil production. i tried ACV on my face as a toner, but all that did was made my face smell like butt.

This is me. If I scratch my forehead, I can see the oil under my fingernails. :perplexed

I am the same way...if I wipe my face with a napkin it looks as if someone was eating fried chicken or something!

Whatever you do, don't use a bunch of drying products!! This leads to increased oil production and imbalances the skin.
Start on the inside. Oftentimes, super oily skin points to a chemical/hormonal imbalance. What is your diet like? How often do you consume green leafy veggies? MSM and beta carotene supplements are great for normalizing oily skin. A diet full of anti-inflammatory foods does wonders for oily skin and large pores.
Steaming the face and following with a kaolin clay mask 1-2 times/week should help as well. This also helps with large pores.
I also noticed that when I started exercising regularly, my skin was much less oily. I think it's the hormone thing.
Serums are great for skrinking pores. Products containing AHAs, GA, etc help clean pores and reduce their appearance. The reason pores appear large is because oil is sitting in and around them...this is why your pores look smaller and smoother immediately after rinsing a mask. With that in mind, the ultimate goal is to turn the dial on the oil glands down a bit so that your pores are not stretched and/or inflammed.
For maintenance, try blotting papers. They do a great job of absorbing the oil while leaving makeup in tact and not transferring bacteria.

I don't have large pores.....these suckers are huge. Chocolate Diva, how exactly did you use the milk of magnesia? My grandmother stockpiles bottles of these.

I have large pores. The only things that helps them not be so visible for me is to wash with a gentle soap, rinse with cool water. Use a tiny bit of toner, moisturize with jojoba oil so that my skin stays supple. That's about it. Oh and using my Pretika brush to exfoliate.
I do whatever I can to make my skin stay calm and moist and plump.

I second Divine Inspirations advice about diet. I can clearly see a difference in my skin when I eat clean--fresh steamed veggies, fish and fruits. I have started to keep a daily skin/diet diary of what I eat and products I use on my face so that I can better track what works best for me. I have recently started using tea tree oil and it is very calming for my skin. Some people hate the smell but I like it.

I believe this is the key to those who have great skin and those who dont. People who tend to have great skin do NOTHING major to their skin but soap and water if they even use soap. I believe its all the products that cause the breakouts.

M.O.M. (milk of magnesia) also dries up pimples. Shake well and apply as needed to the face. Either let it dry then rinse off or wear overnight.
Some large pores may actually be acne scars. Dermabrasion, Glycolic Acid, AHA/BHA may help with the scars.

My pores are very visible but i suffer from dry skin
I wash with water only and have started the OCM. I moisturise with nivea, now i'm trying out rosewater glycerine followed by coconut oil. It seems ok so far.
I'm going to try the milk of magnesia next week.

I just posted this on another thread. I actually have large pores, but I don't have oily skin. The one thing that cleans and tightens my pores is a French Green clay from Mountain Rose Herbs. It's so strong that I can feel my face throbbing as the clay drys, which takes about 30 minutes. After washing off the clay my pores are not noticeable and blackheads have disappeared.
You can get it here http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/clay/clay.html
Afterwards, I moisturize by rubbing oil (olive oil or sweat almond oil) into my skin and rinse off any excess oil with hot water. It leaves my skin soft but not feeling oily. HTH.
