I've seen it done both ways. Which is the right way? I have lashes that sometimes turn upside down and poke me in my eyes so I need help (handi-lashes, I know :lo:). When I use mascara without curling them, I have a few lashes that stick straight out or are curled upside down. I'm trying to get the technique down. How do you curl them, before or after you apply your mascara?

Before mascara. If you did it before it's like putting hairspray on your hair and then combing it. Not good for the hair.

:lachen: I have the same problem....I thought it was just me.....well not really but you know what I mean.
What has helped me is to comb my lashes first then curl them ;for me as close to the base as possible; because my lashes are rather curled anyway, I find the lash curler at the base really opens my eyes up ALoT..... then mascara ( my new favorite Sheishedo's .....damn I can't spell right now ) it makes my lashes soooooo long I love it!!!

I have to concur with before, after is just too messy. (I too have the unruly eyelashes.)

Mascara, http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P173724&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5337 it was a gift! I trully didn't spend that much on Mascara...I don't know if I would have tried this if it wasn't a gift.... I love what it does to my lashes...I don't think I need volume or length cause I'm ok in that dept. But the height I guess is what this does...never had that effect....it makes my length dramatic bcause of this.
BTW ELF has a curler that I really like...

I curl my lashes before using mascara. I've been using an Essence of Beauty curler. It's one of the best I've ever used and most affordable. It was only $5.

Before...if you do it afterward you run the risk of pulling out your lashes...plus it keeps your curler clean and gunk free!

I go back and forth between my Shiseido ($16)

and my Shu Uemura. ($20) I like this one much better because it fits my eye perfectly. I use the other when this one is missing or dirty and I am running late. BUT I rarely curl my lashes anymore.

Just a little hint...curl straight after coming out of the shower as the lashes are softer and pliable.
