milk and cheese from their diets? I have cut out eating meat, but my struggle now is cheese. I believe once the dairy is eliminated, I will be on my way to a vegan lifestyle, which is NOT a choice, but it will be by force.

I stop eating meat about 15 years ago and cheese was a hard one to let go. Now-a-days I can do without it. You have to start slow and allow it to leave you. Milk is something I never liked so I can’t help in that area.

Hey lady
I'm lactose intolerant so milk and dairy really don't bug me. I have the lactaid free milk every once in a blue moon. Good luck with your transitioning to vegan :)

I developed a gradual intolerance to forms of dairy a few years after a stopped eating meat. First milk, then yogurt, next ice cream... You get the picture. Cheese was all I had left, but I stopped eating all but parmesan not two weeks ago.

I discovered those veggie slices in the grocery store. Not bad. NOT cheese.

MonaRae is right, you can't go cold turkey because there is too much out there with cheese on it. Start little by little: first no American cheese, then no cheddar, then no mozzarella. By the time you've cut it out completely, you could forget what having it was like.

**VERY IMPORTANT**: If you eat out a lot, learn to ask for "no cheese", or they will ruin your best laid plans by accident.

Not having dairy doesn't bother me either. I didn't grow up eating cheese so it's not something I am particularly crazy about. But if you find it hard to give up, Whole Foods sells soy or dairy-free cheese. I think you might also get vegetarian cheese in regularly grocery stores.

May I ask why you cut out eating meat? And when you say meat, do you mean red meat or all meat including chicken and fish? (I know some people don't consider the last two as meat, but they all are flesh to me which = meat.)

^^^^^ I'm just guessing but when she says vegan that means all meats including chicken and fish. I think some vegeterians still eat fish or some may eat cheese but not meat at all.

All meat's cut out, even fish and chicken.

First it was a challenge for me, just to see if I could do it. A lot of my meals that I make or that I can get at a resturant don't require meat. By me cutting out meat, I eat out so much LESS at fast food joints than ever before. So this means no filet-o-fish AND fries. Now, I am really interested in going raw and meat can't be apart of that for me.

Oh duh! I missed the vegan part. I was distracted by NOT BY CHOICE but by force...and the fact that she's giving up meat. :dead: The carnivore I am, that'd be suicide.
