BUMPING FOR INSPIRATION AND MOTIVATION


I have rediscovered my love for writing poetry when I created my weightloss journal. I would like to share a few poems that are in my journal with those of you who need a little help along the way. Sometimes when I feel a little discouraged I read scriptures and my poems to help me focus on my goal. Some are based on my life and some are reflections of what I see other people deal with everyday.

Letting Go

I told Jesus to please take the wheel

he replied only when you let go is when you'll start to heal

I told Jesus it's hard dealing with all of this pain

he replied when the load seems heavy, all you have to do is speak my name


I cried and cried until I had no tears left to fall

He said, you are my child, I'll be with you through it all

The test and the trials that seem to come again and again

are not meant to crush you, they're just part of my plan


What did I do? Why am I in this mess?

I learned that even though I made it through high school and college

Life would not exempt me from its most difficult tests


Lord, I give it all to you, all my sorrow and my pain, show me the way

My Child, when you hand them over to me, that is where they must stay

Lord, I'm discouraged and disheartened

and I've messed up so many times before

My child, you are forgiven, you heard me knock, and you opened the door

Who I am

My figure may not look like Lisa's

My home may not be as grand as Pam's

I may be viewed as being country

but that's just who I am


My car may not drive like Helen's Lexus

My dress will never compare to the one Michelle may wear

I may be viewed as soft spoken

but some things the whole world does not need to hear


Latrice may call me stuck-up

and Doris may say I don't give a damn

I am more than what people think of me

A wife, mother, daughter, and Friend

and that's just who I am


I am a direction in the future

I am a reflection of the past

I am the head and not the tail

I am the first and not the last

Just when

Just when I wanted to throw in the towel

a voice whispered, before you start to walk

you must first begin to crawl


Just when the peach cobbler began to call my name

a voice whispered, leave it alone

unless you enjoy your weight staying the same


Just when I watched a show featuring no one my size

a voice whispered, you know the brothers value thick thighs

as a prize


Just when felt like I was losing my mind

a voice whispered, do not give up

we are going to make it all the way this time



Just when I when I tried on my 3rd outfit in the dressing room stall

a voice whispered, Girl you finally made it, tell the employee

the ten is too baggy, you'll take a size eight in them ALL

Pain

Release it please let it go

let it find another home

lease is up

you can't stay here

pain, you have to go


too long I have allowed you to run free in my life

unlike Boyz II Men it is not hard for me to say goodbye

to hurt, sorrow, misery, and strife


You see , once I allowed you to determine who I wanted to be

You are not my creator

through Christ I have the victory


So pain you cannot stay here

It is time to say goodbye

Your presence will not be missed

and like Mary J. Blige, believe that I'm not gon' cry

The Sun will shine again

I did not always feel the way I do today

anger, depression, sadness, and unforgiveness

all stood in my way


Rent was due on Monday

My Child got sick on Tuesday

My husband left on Wednesday

Stayed away all night and all day Thursday

By Friday I realized he was not coming back

Cried all day Saturday

Sunday belonged to God and everyday above

No more tears for that man who did not recognize real love


As women we have had our shares of ups and downs

sometimes its hard pretending

We can handle it own our own


Before we take that bite of something we think will ease the pain

ice cream, chips, and candy will only cause a gain

When troubles and trials fall on your life like rain

Always remember, the sun will shine again

Leaving there to Get here

Walking in the room and heads start to turn

It took a long time getting here

and you had your share of lessons learned


Your trials made you stronger

and sometimes you had to cry

like when they said you'll never lose the weight

not the way you love to eat Sweet Potato pie


You laughed to keep from crying

You ate to ease the pain

You cowered away in sadness

until you whispered his sweet name


You gave it all to God

every trial you were going through

When Jesus controls the makeover

believe me the old you will become new


He showed you how to love yourself

because he loved you first

your worth is not determined by food, men, clothing, or the brand of your purse


He changed you from the inside out

that is the key to the Master's plan

If the inside is where it needs to be

then the outside will follow eventually


One day you looked in the mirror

your refection was not the same

your eyes were filled with joy and happiness

gone was the constant fear and pain

Light

I love me for who I am

a wife, mother, daughter,

and friend when you are in a jam


Some think I am pretty

Some say I am not

I am not defined by the words of others

I know I am HOT


I wear my hair natural

It's wild and its free

but even my hair

cannot define me


I tell my students

stand up for what is right

do not follow others into darkness

hold up your light


I don't have a lot of money

I am not a size three

Sometimes my family drives me insane

it's all a part of being me


Stop comparing yourself to everyone that is around

you don't know what goes on behind close doors

You don't know what is going down


Believe that you are beautiful

a light in this dark world

let it shine brightly for every boy and girl

The Hidden Jewel

My daddy always told me I could be anything I wanted to be

He said, "Sugar, stay focused , go to college and get your degree

With a solid education you don't have to sit around and depend on a man

and with all that you have to offer, the choice of who you want is in your hands"


So ladies I encourge you to always expect the best and nothing less

Life is too short to wallow in mess

Hold your head high

love who you are

don't mope around thinking about 'ol boy


You are a rare diamond that radiates shine

he is a rhinestone, fake, cheap, and easy to find

if he cannot treat you like the jewel that you are

allow me to repeat, don't mope around thinking about 'ol boy



When the darkness fades

and you discover your worth

your light will shine all over this Earth

The Ride

I'm happy yall
feel real good inside
can't remember the last time I cried

I let it go
don't ever want it back
my abuse of food could be compared to the crackheads abuse of crack

I was always in denial
that is why I could not lose the weight
excuses did not help either
too tired, too sad, too lonely
best one of all, I can't leave all of this food on my plate

I stopped using food to feed the hunger of what I was really looking for
french fries, big macs, and chips could not cut it for me anymore
so many doors are opening now and I am going to step inside
I am going to jump right in, push the gas, and enjoy life's ride
