i'm considering purchasing some MAC cosmetics and i was wondering what are some colorful, fun collections to buy. I'm talking about pinks, oranges, purples, blues, greens, yellows. i want to buy one collection to start out. I've purchased some of the old lipglass colors, but i haven't really made any huge purchases before, because i just couldn't bring myself to spend the money. any suggestions?

You should have a look at the Starflash colour collection coming out at the end of the month in the US. The colours look really nice :yep:

is it me or is MAC more known for their eyeshadows, lipglass and brushes?

Pink-da bling, post haste, ...
Orange-orange, but coppering is nice to...it def isn't copper
Purple-satellite dreams, violet pigment, parfait armour
Blue-deep truth
Green-depending on what kind of green you want..humid(dk green) sprout or swimming (lighter greens)
Yellow-Chrome Yellow...even Goldmine, it's sort a frosy but its more yellow than gold to me

My fave collection this year was the Neo Sci-Fi.:perplexed It doesn't have any of the colors you described but it worked wonderfully for my skin tone and my look.

What kind of colours to do you like?
Basics for me are: old Gold pigment, Nymphette Lipglass, Shadowy lady Eyeshadow, Woodwinked Eyeshadow and BLot Powder.

Can I ask why a whole collection versus things from multiple collections?
I think the palette you should wait on would be the Manish Arora one in September because it'll be cost effective.
Or the Nordstrom releases, colorforms.

IMO, those palettes are a waste of money. The texture and the application of these shadows are nothing like the pots/pro palettes. I gave away all my collection shadow sets and just buy the pots or pro palettes.
It's something about the texture.:nono:
I am pleased with my palettes and Ive been collecting them since 2000/2001

From all of the palettes that I have seen, the consistency of the eyeshadows seem so different from the regular eyeshadow pots. It's like there's less mica in it or something.

to be honest, i really don't know. i guess i was looking for a total look or something, like a couple of shadows, lipglass, etc... all of the colors they have are so overwhelming and some people have different opinions on certain collections and pigments. i go on the website sometimes and the way how the colors look on their don't do their products justice.
i have been looking at some youtube totorials though.
i always considered it to be heavier makeup and though it was best for photo shoots, modeling, etc... not something for everyday use, so i just kinda stayed away from it. now that i want to get into makeup professionally, i would like start investing in some of it.

I'll sing the praises of MAC for mostly everything, but I don't think there's anyone that likes everything in one collection. Most of them are not going to work for everyone, there's usually bits and pieces that will look better on people of all shades and undertones.
Have you checked out Specktra.net? Their swatches are much better than maccosmetics.com.
I just don't agree with an entire collection. I loved both Fafi and Heatherette in an unhealthy way and I'll agree that most of the collection did absolutely nothing for me.
I'm sure if you put a list of looks you're looking for people would upload or find good swatches for you here if that's more of your issue.
And I've never heard that about palettes, and I've been buying MAC for years. I still have use me Christmas sets from 2003 (don't judge me) and they seem perfect to me. I'm mad because I've misplaced a bag during my move that had my Christmas stuff from last year (along with 2 bottles of fix+ and some other essentials).

If you don't have a good neutral everyday look then get the Neo-Sci Fi collection. Expensive Pink is a great shade for a pop of color. Magnetic Fields and carbon makes a gorgeous smoky eye.
Purples - get beautiful iris, fig 1 and shadowy lady.
Greens - Humid, juxt, sumptuous olive, swimming,
Orange - Rule, Amberlights (orange on me) Two to Glow Mineralized eyeshadow duo, coppering
Blues - Sea and Sky mineralized shadow duo, Parrot
If you want to save money and get a lot of color then I recommend Urban Decay Palettes.
