I am looking to start self waxing cause it seems like it would be a lot simpler, better for my skin, and in the long run less expensive than shaving daily with $10 razors. So:
What products do you use?
Where do you get them?
How well do they work for you?
Are they easy or messy?
Anything words of wisdom or input?

What products do you use? I use the Gigi warmer. I am still experimenting with the different waxes but they all are pretty good so far. I also use wooden sticks to spread the wax as well as muslin strips.
Where do you get them? I get most of the products from sallys except for the sticks. I have found it to be more economical to buy them at a craft store like Michaels.
How well do they work for you? It works well, but I still need to practice in order to get it down pact.
Are they easy or messy? It was kind of messy. I have an issue with the wax dripping off of the wooden stick.
Anything words of wisdom or input? I have found that it is extremely important to prep your skin with powder prior to waxing in order to dry up any moisture that may be on your skin. If you don't the wax doesn't adhere as well.

What products do you use? Cerepil Blue
Where do you get them? Order online
How well do they work for you? The best so far. since Zips wax
Are they easy or messy? not really when you do it right.
Anything words of wisdom or input?
exfolliate 48 hours prior, I always shower and "shuga scrub" before. Patience, patience, patience.
If you're just starting allow yourself at least 3 weeks to remove it all.
In other words wax thoroughly, wait a week, wax again, and repeat.
If all the hairs are not removed in week 1, wait, you'll get them all by week 3

I use Gigi Wax. I buy it from Sallys beauty supply. You can purchase the kit for $20ish dollars. I always buy stuff as I need. It lasts a long time. Wax is messy but the secret it getting the wax to the right temperature. I use a pre lotion before I put on the wax so the wax dosen't stick to the skin. You don't want to rip your skin off (ouch):look: (pre-lotion should come with the kit). I also put some type of powder on after i am finished waxing feels a lot better. Depending on what you want to wax you might want to buy wax for sensative skin. Hope you find this helpful. Remember..where ever there is hair...you can wax it.

I've been waxing at home for at least four years; I've had it done professionally, but something about having a stranger (that's not a doctor) in that area creeps me out.
I use Surgi-wax (CVS/Rite-Aid/Sally's/BSS) or Microtweeze (Sally's/Beauty First/BSS).
They work great for me, no ingrowns etc. Just smooth bikini and underarm areas.
Self-waxing is easy, but it can get a little messy. Make sure that you trim the hairs down before you do it the first time. If the hairs are too long it's more difficult/painful and you may have to go over an area more than once which can take the top layer of skin off (even though I do it with no problems).
Baby oil will get any bits of wax right off your skin. Wax over an old towel so the wax won't drip on the floor. If any wax does get on the floor 409 or another similar product will take it off easily.
Also, I like to wax near a surface you can put your foot on. I just use the counter, but I'm not sure how tall you are or if that's feasible for you. I lift my leg up to wax everything and make sure there are no stray hairs in any cracks or crevices.
I buy a bunch of wax sticks separately so I don't have to preserve those tiny wax sticks that come in the box. (You can find these at Sally's).
You may see a few droplets of blood here and there, but don't panic.
That's normal. For some reason the hairs want to hold on for dear life and some areas are more stubborn than others. Over time the hairs will grow in very fine and will be easier to remove.
I think that's everything, but you can PM me if you have any other questions.

I use Nair microwaveable wax kit. I really like it because the wax is water soluable so it's easy to wipe off. However, when the tub is about 25% full, it's hard to get the wax to the right consistency. I got tired of trying so now I'm thinking about buying a wax warmer or maybe getting an Epilady. The ladies all gave excellent tips. The only thing I can think of to add is to apply the wax in a thin layer. If it's too thick, it's more difficult and painful to remove the hair. Also, pull your skin as tight as possible when taking the wax off. The tighter you pull, the less painful it is. I don't know if this was mentioned already, but apply the wax in the direction of the hair growth and remove it in the opposite direction.

Co-signing on the Gigi wax products, I buy everything from Sally's. Very effective and quick once you get the hang of it.

What products do you use?
Surgi wax for coarse hair (when I am being cheap) or BLiss Poetic Wax (When I am treating myself)
Some type of sugar/water based wax for my arms. I need a strip for that.
Where do you get them?
You can get surgi at Wallyworld or any drugstore. Bliss - you have to get at Sephora
How well do they work for you?
Both are my favorites because I do not need any strinps. I have to do it about every 2 weeks and I never have a problem (but I have been waxing myself for 13 years)
Are they easy or messy?
It can be messy if you are rushing and not taking your time. One time I spilled that mess in the microwave. :nono: Luckily my mom took the plate and put it in the freezer and it came right off the plate. Always lay a paper towel down when you are heating it. With Bliss, you put the cup in a boiling pot of water.
Sugar wax can be heated under running hot water. Very easy clean up!
Anything words of wisdom or input?
Never use those HUGE sticks, unless you are doing your 'pits. Toothpicks are best for your brows, Smaller sticks are great for your 'burns, chin and lip.
Powder is great, I always have it right by my wax!
I hate walking around with hair but I know if I want to get a good waxing...I have to let it grow a lil. Waxing "scrub" will do nothing but hurt your skin.
If you have a few hairs that did not come out...just tweeze them.

How do these work without strips? Are they similar to Nads (I think it's Nads) where the wax is a little gummy so you can just peel it off?

Wait for the wax to cool some (but not long enough for it to harden) and pull it off. Once you try it you'll know when it's just the right consistency - it feels somewhat like putty when it's ready to be pulled off. I've used the kits that come with strips (a pain) and the wax kits that don't require strips are better imo.

EXACTLY!!!!!:yep::yep::yep:
also when you wax, try to leave a little curl at the end so you can get a nice grip (if you are using a wax without the strip). It will be easier to grip and pull the hair off.

Waxing is definitely better than shaving for me especially in intimate areas; my SUPER sensitive skin remains irritation free and smooth.
What products do you use? Surgi Wax Brazillian Waxing Kit (Don't let
the name fool you, it's gentle enough
for facial/underarm/wherever use)
Where do you get them? Walmart for about $5
How well do they work for you? It works great!!! The pre-epilation oil
allows the wax to stick to my hair, not my
skin diminishing discomfort and it pulls out
every hair usually in one swipe
Are they easy or messy? It's excellent for inexperienced waxers like me.
It's a hard wax kit so no strips are needed. It's
easy to work with.
Anything words of wisdom or input? Remember to use the pre-epilation oil before applying wax. Buy a pack of tongue depressors so you have extra
waxing sticks. Drag the line of wax beyond the section of hair you plan to remove so you can get a good grip on the wax before you pull. Exfoliate a few days before and after waxing to keep ingrown hairs at bay.
