Use products containing glycolic acid. They have cleared up mine in the past. I just placed an order for a cleanser, day lotion and night cream by Glytone. It's apparently a brand a lot of dermatologists put folks on but it is available via the Internet.
All three products are glycolic acid based, so I hope to have COMPLETELY clear (no spots) skin in the next few months. I plan to take photos (before /after) and post my results.

Previously, a dermatologist had me on MD Forte glycolic acid cleanser (which cleared ALL spots on my skin), but after comparing the ingredients of MD Forte to the Glytone ingredients, I thought the Glytone had better ingredients that were gentler on the skin.
The website I bought the products from is: www.dermstore.com (http://www.dermstore.com)
After doing extensive searches on the web, they seem to be the website that sells the Glytone and MDForte products for the cheapest prices.
BTW- To whoever posted on the old board about their friend who was prescribed Glytone products and it gave him gorgeous skin...THANK YOU!! It was YOU who turned me on to Glytone. We'll see how the products work for me! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I received my Glytone products a few days ago and have been using them. I know that the concentrations are good because the stuff "stings" when you apply then the feeling goes away. That is the same way the MD Forte felt on my face.
I will post results in a month or so. But, I have noticed that the stuff makes my skin feel really once it penetrates.

Blkmane,
My dermatologist recommended MD Forte products for my skin and I have been using them for about a year now. At first, the cleanser worked great, but now I find it's not working the way it did initially. I even switched to the facial cleanser II. A product I find wonderful for dark spots is Black Opal Advanced Dual Complex Fade Gel. Please let me know how the Glytone works for you.

Blkmane, I have a question. Which strength are u using in the Glytone? I really need something for my oily skin. I'm gonna try it. Right now I have the reviva 5% glycolic acid, which doesn't tingle at all. I'm thinking about getting the phase 11. It has 14% glycolic. Let me know.

I'm using the GlyTone level 1 products. I don't think that it would be a good idea for you to start with a higher level because it will probably irritate your skin. You are supposed to move up a level ONLY AFTER 3 to 4 months.
I'm using the Mild GEL Cleanser, the Day Lotion 1, and the Overnight Fluid 1.
I got the Day Lotion for Sensitive Skin instead of the Day Cream for Oily Skin because I don't like heavy creams on my face and I wanted something that was oil-free. The Day Cream has Castor Oil in it.
My face is REALLY getting smoother and like I told Tracy on another post, I haven't had ANY NEW PIMPLES since I've been using the products. I started using Glytone on Oct. 31 or so.

Blkmane - It was me. I had a friend (male) that turn me on to this dermatologist(sp) - Fran Cook Bolden in New York (The Center for Black Skin Care). She prescribed him Glytone products and within one month, his face was as smooth as a baby's bottom. He had been to so many dermatologist with absoultely no results. He even tried Proactive and it made his skin worst. Then he saw a news segment on Eyewitness News about Black Skin care (in New York) wrote down the number and made an appointment. Several co-workers made appointments and they too had beautiful skin (not all were on the Glytone products some where using DCL products - that too you can order from Dermstore). I made an appointment and she prescribed the same products (as well as some prescriptions) and within a few months, my face was glowing. Now, I order them from Dermstore because it is much cheaper and it comes within days. Yes, this product in the beginning does burn a little but after a couple of days it goes away.

blkmane and others: what exactly are you using the Glytone products for???? Is it acne? I saw their prices and said i may give it a try once i get some money. Has it helped anyone with acne, i have mild acne which is characterized by a few dark spots and small bumps, nothing serious, i just would like my face clear again.
I went to the dermatologist and he prescribed $140 worth of medication (yes, including my insurance!!) the glytone is much cheaper than that.
i just would like to know if it helps with acne.

BLKMANE I wish I had your expereince. I have been using Glytone step 1 since early October and my skin has gotten worse . I have the nastiest acne on both of my cheeks, thier huge and they hurt, Since I scar really easily they will leave/have left marks. I have been tempted so bad to return the products, but I keep reading about how glycolic acid is good for acne, blemishe,s and skin textures. I think the day ceram is the culprit because of the castor oil. At first I thougth maybe it was the EPO so I stopped taking that, and even stopped using the glytone for a week. My skin is worse than it was before and it has been 3 months. I drink a gallon of water a day, I eat a spinach salad twice a day, exercise ,and I don't eat dairy, and yet my skin looks and feels the nastiest it has ever been.
Right now I would be perfect as a before picture for those pro-active ads.
I am going to exchange the cream for a lighter lotion and hopefully I will have better results. The way my skin looks now is very depressing, and I even have more black spots than before /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Kasyila-
I'm sorry the Glytone is not working for you, but maybe it is bringing the stuff out to the surface? Maybe it ACTUALLY IS WORKING? Know what I mean?
But, I didn't get the CREAM for that exact reason. I bought the Sensitive Skin LOTION instead that contains no oil. Maybe you should try to switch your cream for the lotion and use that for a couple more weeks and see how it goes.
You might also need to CLEAN OUT YOUR SYSTEM. Do you take MSM? It is good for that. Or maybe you could visit the dermatologist and get a prescription for oral and topical antibiotics. They will usually put you on the oral antibiotics for 2 to 3 months and that usually helps clean you right up. Maybe in addition to the topical stuff (Glytone) you need some internal cleansing in addition to water and salads.
Also--Any chance you might have an allergy to food you consume? Chocolate, wheat, peanuts, etc. could all be culprits. You could have an allergy analysis done by an allergist to rule that out.
Another thing: Do you tie your hair up at night? Oils from my hair and dirty pillows will keep you broken out.
Are you using a wash cloth on your face? Wash cloths harbor soooo much bacteria, especially if you don't use a NEW CLEAN WHITE ONE (no dyes) every day. I used to be a big wash cloth fan, and since I stopped using a wash cloth on my face (I use my CLEAN hands only), I have noticed less skin problems.
Let me know what you decide to do. Oh, just remembered, adding lemon juice to my drinking water always makes my skin look better, too. (I think it cleans your insides out or something.)

Try a chemical peel, it worked for me.. I had really bad uneven skin all over my face and body and I did my first peel. So far it looks, good and I am going to have more to correct the problem.

Inthestars--
Did you use the peel from the site you posted (www.skinculture.com)? If so, which version did you use (2000, 3000, 4000) and what were your results?
Were they THAT drastic?

I used the 4000. I had alot of black spots on my forehead and cheeks from pimples, and after the peel, they had faded considerably. They are still there faintly, but after I get a few more peels, I don't expect to see them at all.
Overall, the product worked well and was worth the money.

inthestars,
As a Christmas present to myself, I ordered the Skin Culture Peel 3000 and Aftercare Kit. It was a crazy, impulsive--expensive!--purchase. I'm starting to get a deep feeling of dread and fear in the pit of my stomach. I did a test application as recommended in the instructions (on the center of my cheek, where three new dark spots had developed after recent pimples had dried, instead of under the chin as suggested, so I could better test the results).
I got none of the burning sensation that the site warned about. (I was looking forward to that, since the site also says that the more it burns the more effective the product's likely to be.) My skin turned greenish in the area I applied the paste, but other than that there was absolutely no visible change in my skin and definitely no peeling. Help! Did this happen to you when you did the test application? Did it work better when you applied it all over your face? Is no stinging a bad sign? I plan to call the company about my results on Monday, but just wanted an unbiased opinon. Thanks.

I cleared my complexion using Retin-A at the lowest percentage 0.0025%. And it's working great it has drastically reduced my break-out and has reduced my oily skin.

Hi, AmiLion!
I tried to take a before picture some time ago, but the digital cam I have just cannot pick up that kind of detail. So I cannot post before and afters.
However, here is my review of Glytone after using it since late Oct 2002:
My initial problems were:
<ul type="square"> skin tone uneveness constant cycle of new pimples clogged pores (were filled with sebum if squeezed) [/list]
The Glytone did not seem to diminish my clogged pores, it helped SOMEWHAT with my uneveness and cleared up my pimples in cycles (two weeks), but then it seems like I would break out again (just a pimple or two), then the cycle would continue. [This could be due to my period though as I always seem to get a pimple or two around that time.]
At first, my skintone seemed to be really evening out (the first month of use), but then it seemed all improvement stopped. I really wasn't seeing the results I wanted to see. Plus, after almost two months of use I was STILL having that stinging sensation everytime I put on the Day Lotion and Overnight Lotion.
Please note though that I was also using an MSM cream ON TOP OF the Glytone Day Lotion as the lotion is not moisturizing enough on its own. Even though that cream has really good ingredients, I stopped using it about two weeks ago to see if maybe THAT was the problem. When I quit the MSM lotion, I decided to quit the Glytone for a couple of weeks too as an experiment (and because with this cooooold weather, the glycolic acid was really drying out some of my skin--I have combination skin)
During my two week hiatus from Glytone, I've been using: African Black Soap (the real kind) to wash my face and Skin Eternal Serum as a daily skin treatment. I use the Skin Serum every other day under my makeup. On the other days I use www.nasabb's Shea Butter Moisturizer (shea butter, cucumber extract, aloe vera gel). At night, I alternate between the Skin Eternal Serum again and my prescription pimple cream (Benzamycin).
Survey says: My skin tone seems to be evening out more!!! The most drastic change since starting the "two week experiment" is the improvement in clarity in my skin. The tone and TEXTURE has significantly improved in the last two weeks. Even my bf noticed.
I think that nasabb's Shea Butter Moisturizer is just more beneficial to my skin in this cold weather. And the Skin Eternal Serum (contains DMAE, AlphaLipoic Acid, Ester-C (vit. C), Coenzyme-Q10, Biotin, Glycolic Acid + more) is something my skin really responds to. I've used a similar product in the past and my skin was always glowing.
BTW, I also realized that I still had some liquid hydroquinone that a dermatologist had given me a couple of years ago to apply to spots. Of course, I applied it maybe twice then forgot about it. So, I've recently resurrected this product from the product graveyard and have been applying it once a day to any old pimple marks on my face. (seems to be working)
I haven't thrown my Glytone out yet, but I think the CONSTANT exfoliation during this harsh weather was just making my skin problems worst. I'm going to stick with the stuff I'm using now for a while (and maybe use the Glytone Overnight stuff once or twice a week). Then, depending on how my skin does I may try the Glytone again in the summer.
[Note: I complain a lot about my 'acne' but just wanted to make it clear that doctors call my acne 'mild adult acne'. At the MOST two or three pimples at the time...but the fact that I'm STILL breaking out is what drives my loco...I'm not a teenager..far from! My skintone used to be clear and in the last two or three years has started looking really dull and drab. And I always seem to have clogged little pores on my face. Also, now when I squeeze pimples I get little brown marks (which also didn't happen a few years ago). My skin seems to be getting more sensitive as I get older.]
http://www.primev.com/images/skinEternalSerum.jpg
Skin Eternal, a cosmetic serum, reduces visible signs of aging. It features Eterna-3 (C-Ester, DMAE and Lipoic Acid), key nutrients that moisturize and add a feeling of suppleness and smoothness to the face. The serum is easily absorbed and is lightly scented: lavender-lemon.

The reason why the glytone may not be helping you with pimples is that AHA's (lactic acid and glycolic acid) are water soluble, so they help w/ surface problems. You can try a BHA's (salicylic acid) they are fat soluble and can actually get inside of the skin. Another thing you can try in addition to BHA is a topical disenfictant like benzoyl peroxide. You also want to make sure that AHA's are in a base of a ph of 3-4, and BHA's in a base of ph 3. They have to remain in an acidic environment to work. I had a few pimples popping up this week and I used a BHA product and they were disappearing that day. I was really surprised.

Glyquin XM 4% got rid of my dark spots and evened out my complexion within a month. In fact, I need to order some more because some blemishes have left dark marks on the sides of my face from me picking and scratching. I need to stop touching my face!

I agree that Glycolic acid works. my skin was spotless after using Murad Acne Exfoliating Gel for 2 months
These days I use Murad Age Spot and Pigment Fade Gel, it is also working.
Use a sunscreen everyday applied 30 min bf leaving the house. Also Avebenzone is a more effective sunscreen I readm, it is in many lotions like Aveeno and my fav: Neutrogena Visibly Even

How bad is your skin? You may not need to use a skin peel. Do u take Omega 3? Vitamins, exfoliating, a gentle soap that gets everything off, and facials seem to be helping me out a lot.

I feel like it is making my skin less dry. I think it is evening out my skin tone some. I just look a lot better, period. I am not exactly sure what kinds of questions u have, but feel free to ask me anything about it. I have been using it for a few weeks now. Aveeno Oatmeal Bath
It worked for my skin when I broke out with a rash almost all over my body near the beginning of this year of 2005. The rash left dark marks all over my arms, torso, and top area of my legs. I never thought they would go away. They were there for maybe 1-2 months. Now, they are completely gone! No signs of the marks whatsoever. Plus, I also use one of those spongies to shower with which helps exfoliate old/dead skin.
