According to this woman I know she used the following method to regulate how her body processes sugar and other refined carbs like white flour.

>>Have man-made carbs on Monday - then on Tuesday and Wednesday eliminate them. Instead consume soups, salads, meat and vegetables. On Thursday allow man-made carbs into your food plan but omit them on Friday and Saturday. Keep repeating this plan with two days “off” in-between each “man-made” carb day. It you are trying to lose more than 2 clothing sizes, then adjust this type of consumption to three days off for the first month. After four weeks, then reduce the “man-made” day off by one. Ultimately you will be able to have “man-made” carbs every other day (without guilt) and your body will not convert/store them as fat!<<

I am trying this this week to see how I feel. So far so good!

This sounds a little confusing...(maybe because I'm reading this at work and trying to make sure my boss doesn't catch me posting), but when I get a chance I will give this plan a good look....it sounds promising, especially for people like me who LOVE carbs!!

Doesn't it?

It basically says to go 2 days not eating processed or man made carbs then you can have them on the 3rd day. If you have to lose 2 or more sizes for the first month only you go 3 days not eating processed carbs then eat them on the 4rth day. I am on my first day and I feel fine. I am eating lean protein salads sauteed veggies, fruits and nuts.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, I am on my second day of no refined carbs and I can't believe it -- my appetite has decreased somewhat and I ate significantly less calories for the day and was satisfied.

I am not a nutrionist but I do not think that eliminating a food group even for one day is good for your body. Technically, all the excess sugar (present in all foods including proteins, carbs and vegetables) is converted to glycogen and ultimately into fat.

I'm not a dieter so I do make it my job to find things wrong with them. (I know it's evil /forums/images/graemlins/look.gif)

The technique is called carb cycling. This (IMO) is a round about/semi complicated way to do it though. Carb cycling is quite effective, I do it when I get ready for a competition. There are many ways of doing it. You can take low/ high days depending on you level of activity on those days, or you could do it randomly, like flipping a coin in the AM to see whether you will take a high or low day.

I agree that no one one group (i.e. carbs) should be eliminated if you are trying to lose weight. But common sense should tell you that if you are serious about it, you should avoid things high in sugar and that are highly refined.

And all EXCESS calories will be stored as fat. So the key is to burn the calories thru activity.

I'm not eliminating carbs. I eat Nuts, fruits, lean protein and tons of veggies for 3 days. The fourth day I permit myself to eat some refined foods. I also drink tons of water. I feel really good. I'm glad that someone else here is familiar with it and gave me the proper name /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm just cutting out the bad stuff white sugar and refined flour.

I feel great so far! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

So you are eliminating carbs for 3 days. I think nutritionally it is not good to eliminate any food group at any time. It is fine to avoid the refined sugar and flour but you should eat the good carbs like whole grain rice, whole wheat bread etc. And as bad a name as fat has got, it is still needed nutritionally.

Are you going to use this method forever or is it a diet? If it is a diet, like all the others(Atkins and low carb) it will give you results that will most probably be temporary once you go back to your usual eating method.

Nuts, fruits and veggies have carbs(you can check the carb content of these foods). I would understand if I was going Atkins for 3 days but this is not the case. I feel great on this. For 6 days out of the week I am not eating refined sugar; The plan is that after a month I go 2 days w/out refined sugars then to every other day. I think I have a sensitivity to grains; I love steel cut oatmeal but when I eat it I get so sleepy! Anyway, so far I don't think this is extreme in anyway -- I'm not going hungry and I feel great.

I love it.

I do the carb cycling as well and I have had good results. On Wednesdays I have 1/2 cup of oatmeal for breakfast with 3 egg whites(protein), for lunch & dinner I have lean meat, 1 cup of brown rice or 6 oz. sweet potato, and veggies. I always have calorie-free drinks sweetened with Splenda.

I have to admit that I lost the same amt of weight the week I did the carb cycling. It didn't accelerate anything. But I did feel fantastic doing it.
