What things do you do to live an active and fit lifestyle without necessarily hitting the gym?
I try to walk as much as I can to do errands (weather permitting) and I just started taking tap dancing lessons. I think I am going to add belly dancing lessons to the mix :yep:
What about you?

I love working out so I view it as a hobby.
I also love to ride bikes so me and DH will be purchasing bikes very soon. I would love to start back up with professional dance class as well.
ETA: I agree about keeping junk food out of the house. I have tons of fun with being creative and remaking some of my favorite unhealthy treats into something that is healthy and beneficial for my body! I also shop mostly on the perimeter of the grocery store.

I wear my pedometer as a monitor of my physical activity of lack there of. If I walk during the day (I have a sit down job.) AND exercise when I get home, I average about 12k steps/day. If I am lazy...I can do all the way down to 6-7K. If I'm not working that day, hence not walking to the train, like the weekend, I average 5k. They recomend a minimum of 10k steps/day.
It's my constant reminder to stay active.

I work out with my firm videos and walk as much as possible wherever I am. I also stay mindful of my caloric intake and expenditures.

keep junk out of the house to resist the urge to snack. i'm not willing to drive to the store specifically to buy a snicker :drunk:
if you're at work, most vending machines have a healthier option.
i try to walk as much as possible and keep a mental note of what i have eaten for the day.
night times are my weakness so i try to find a healthy evening snack.
substitute beef with turkey. it's hard to notice the difference once you get used to it.

I try to do 5 miles everyday on my stationary bike for 4/5 days...That's about 40 minutes per night

Make it fun and sexy! I despise the gym but I love dancing. All of my cardio is dance... hoopdance (http://hoopnotica.com), belly dance (http://youtube.com/watch?v=WjirfzoA38g), latin dance... love it! If I can't get 30 minutes straight I do 15 minutes chunks.

Taking the stairs wherever I am has really helped. I take them at work, in airports instead of the escalator and in our parking garage. It adds up, especially with my heavy purse and laptop bag.
No desserts. Not keeping junk in the house really helps. When you buy it, it's as if you're giving yourself permission to eat it, I think.
Parking farther away from places.
I think if I did the above I might maintain my weight. But since I'm trying to actively lose, it takes a lot more than that. For me (and my metabolism) I have to get in like 5-6 heart pumping cardio exercises (speed walking/jogging, aerobics/kickboxing, tennis, etc.) and light strength training in order to LOSE weight, along with a pretty healthy diet. I'm not one of the lucky ones with the fast metabolism lol!! HTH :)

I take the stairs when possible, walk the long way to my destination if time permits, get a minimum of 45 minutes of cardio in every single day (jogging or walking around the track), without fail and do weights 3 times week at home. I am on a mission so my commitment level is really high. Since I lost 21 pounds in 6 weeks, I am extremely motivated to keep it going!

During springtime and summer it is easy for me to incorporate it: I use my bike for almost all my ways so it really adds up! My city is not sooo big so most of them are up to 30 min.
I also second taking the stairs instead of an escalator. I live on the 5th floor so I have to take them stairs several times a day!!

Make it a part of your life just like you make LHCF. We spend alot of time on this site that could be dedicated to the gym. My goal this week was to work out 5 days. So far I have worked out 4 days. Two days I could of made excuses but I chose not too.
