....I had to think LONG and hard about posting this. It's a VERY embarassing, touchy subject for me. But, I know how helpful you ladies can be and maybe someone has a solution.

I grow a dang beard like a man! Don't laugh, I'm serious! It's been going on 6-7 years since it's been really bad. I'm talking, shave in the morning, shadow my evening! It REALLY sucks! And since I have to shave every day, of course it's made my skin texture horrible, and unsightly discoloration and shaving irritaion, cuts, bumps along my jawline, chin, and neck.

Needless to say, this has taken a MAJOR toll on my self esteem. It made makeup a MUST for me (which is cool, because now I'm in LOVE), but how I long for smooth, clear, hairless skin.

I got my hormone levels checked: Normal
Laser treatments: Had 4, WAY expensive, and didn't see ANY results at ALL
Vaniqa: VERY minute difference if any at all
Hair removal creams: burned the crap out of my skin (once didn't leave the house for a whole weekend due to burns on my face....cried my eyes out)
Waxing: I'll be damned if I let the hair get long enough for it to be waxableI don't even let my BF touch my face. Every time he tries to, I draw back. I'm DEATHLY afraid of what to do if we ever move in....

LADIES, I'm at my wits end....I don't know what to do about it any more. Makeup can only hide so much.

Any suggestions?

Oh (((Hun))), I was going to suggest laser but if that didn't work...I'm at a loss. I just wanted to give you a hug while we wait for someone with more info to come on. I don't think anyone will laugh.

Maybe when you do tell him, he'll be supportive in every way, including finding treatment or just covering up for you should the shadow show up? Sometimes the ones we love have ways of surprising us and showing us just how much they love us and how unconditional that love is. I pray that his love will override the surprise. Don't despair. I'll see if I can find some information.

what kind of laser was used? because not all lasers are best for AA skin when it comes to hair removal.

Hmmm, I can't remember what laser they used. I do know that they used a lower setting because I'm AA and they explained I would need twice as many treatments.....which meant twice as much money.

I don't believe your hormone levels are normal, can't be.... I would find a GOOD esthetician and get waxed regularly.

I agree with Vevster. Get a second opinion if you can and keep searching for an esthetician who'll work with you and relieve this issue.

I went to school with a girl who had the same problem throughout high school, but one day, years later I saw her at a class reunion and her beard was gone. I wish I had asked her what she had done.

I grow long chin hairs (more than the average person) and it's a pain, but I check daily and pluck them.

Is plucking not an option? I use a good lighted magnifying mirror to see them and several types of tweezers, some witch hazel and ice. It's just something I have to do even if it does take time. At least it could thin it out some without the chemicals in the dipilatories.

There is a solution. Don't give up. :bighug:

Co-sign. That points to a hormonal imbalance of some sort I would seek out a 2nd and 3rd opinion and consider seeing a specialist.

Also, how is your overall health? Are you on any rx meds? Do you eat right? Exercise? Are you cycles normal?

I'm sure there's something else going on that would point to the source of this issue.

And let me also give you a ((hug)) and say hang in there and get to the bottom of this. It will get better if you keep at it. The skin does a great job of shedding and rejuvenating on a healthy body so your goal of clear skin is probably attainable with a little detective work.

Extra hair can be a symptom of Polycystic ovaries and fibroids. You need to speak to your doctor to arrange to have an internal scan.

How's your weight? You can get out of whack hormonally (in the normal range) and it can cause excess hair everywhere. All my friends who are super thin/underweight or very over weight have hair issues.

And how's your diet? Try cleansing and going raw/vegan for a while (no dairy, no meat.) Your body might be reacting to something that you ingest.

Spend some time on this site. Lots of women like you on there.

Be careful with the laser on the chin and neck area. Seems to make the problem worse for females. Think its called Laser induced growth.

But read the site. I found it VERY useful.

I saw this product on a TV channel called the NoNoNo. It is like a razor, but instead it erases the hair. It is suppose to be gentle on the skin. It is very expensive. I think It was being sold on the TV channel for $250. The good thing about it though is that the more you use it, less hair grows back each time. I think you have to use it twice a week at first, and then eventually less often. After awhile, they said you will only have to use the NoNoNo only once a week or even once a month at times because the hair doesn't grow back as fast. Good Luck!
