Hello all,

My 2 1/2 year od daughter had some blood test's as well as a x-ray done to check for precocious puberty. Her blood work came back fine (hormones are not elevated) but her x-ray shows that she has the skeletal of a 5 years old. :perplexed The next step we are taking is sending her to an Endercronologist(sp?) for further testing to find out what could have caused this. Her appointment is not until August, so we will be biting out fingernails for 2 months before we start to get some answers.

Has anyone here gone through something like this before as a young girl, or has a daughter whom has experienced this, or know anything at all about this condition? Her pediatrician has ruled out any of the food issues that I have noticed most say can be a cause for precocious puberty, because of her age.

We just really need to know that everything will turn out o.k.

Thanks

I think she will be fine. Does she spend a lot of time around a lot of non-related men? That can cause early puberty.

Also, did anyone else in your family have this?

No, as a matter of fact she seems to be terrified of men that she does not know very well, or sees once in awhile (certain family members) which is something that has been very weird to me. She clings to me and will turn her head when they approach her.

I've talked to my Mom and my MIL and both said that they never heard of anything like this on either side, so I ruled out genetics.

Okay, well, I will keep your daughter in my thoughts. They don't think she has a tumor and her ovaries are functioning okay?

I would also start looking at things in her environment that could be causing this. Make sure you get her away from everything plastic. I mean everything. Have your drinking water tested. Only buy organic food, etc.

It has been cited that indirect exposure to excessive amounts of topical estrogen can cause advanced bone age in children. And here is an article that refers to that http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/105/4/e55

But nowadays there are many estrogen-mimicking ingredients in personal care products (lotions, shampoos, conditioner, moisturizers, et cetera) on the market. And I have a feeling that use of these products can sometimes cause changes in little boys and girls as well.

Perhaps you may want to look into using personal care products on your daughter that are paraben free and with fewer ingredients. The simpler the better :yep:

I knew I would get the answers I was looking for from you all, thanks so much.

I have thought about going the organic route. Very interesting to know that personal products also has ingriedients that can raise hormone levels, as a matter of fact it's very shocking to hear this!

Thanks again, we will have to try making a few adjustments in our household during our wait to see the specialist. The only thing that is weird though is that this has not affected my boys in any way. mmm

Well, boys would naturally have lower estrogen levels. You might want to look at any difference between them and see if there is anything you can pinpoint. I'd cut unnatural hair products, all plastics, have my water checked, make sure she isn't being exposed to anything at daycare, etc.
