I have a VitaMix. It's not a juicer but I make juice with it. :yep:
I just add some fruit/water/blend on high for 20 seconds then strain it. :lick:

Oooh thank you for making this thread! I only have a regular old school sears brand blender my parents got as a wedding present back in the 80's....They don't make things like they used to b/c that sucker is older than me, and it cranks out some SLAMMIN smoothies with no problems.
I've been wanting to up my juice game, but since I'm going to go raw I want to invest in a quality juicer. I am eager to see the results b/c that piece of crap from black and decker from wal mart was not the business!:nono:

To those that use blenders, what do you do with the pulp?

That is the benefit of the vitamix, there is no "pulp"
You will get a bit of foam at the top, but for the most part you are able to injest the "juice" from the veggie or fruit as well as the "pulp"
Even when you strain off the foam you are still getting more fiber(pulp) than you would get from a traditional juicer.
I went to a raw foods seminar and they said the "juice" made from the vitamix is not actually juice and that juice from a juicer is more easily absorbed by the body. I can kinda get where they are coming from, but I still prefer my vitamix to my juicer anyday.
To the point made at the seminar it may slow down absorption but this could actually be a good thing for your blood sugar, since traditional juice is said to create spikes in the blood sugar :scratchch

When I'm making juice, I have pulp. I blend on low for only 20 seconds instead of my usual high for 30 seconds.
I throw away whatever is in the strainer. But RH is right you have to make a conscious effort to
not overblend if you want juice. :ohwell: Blend too much and it'll all fall right through the strainer.

I guess I'm lost b/c I dont have a vita-mix, but how can overblending not result in a completely liquid substance. I have a mini strainer with tiny holes so are you saying that pieces of food fall thru the strainer?

Overblending will make the pieces so small that they fall thru the strainer.
If you want juice need need to leave them bigger enough to get caught in
the strainer. It's weird and counterintuitive.

I do not know about this because the juicer I have all of the good stuff would be left in the strainer (ie the skin from the apple). That is why I have a Vitamix now.

Thanks ladies!
I did some more research and it appears that juicing and blending is two different things. Juicing extracts everything and leaves just juice that is quickly absorbed by the body. Blending leaves the fiber which is good for your digestive system, however, it can be not so good if you are already getting plenty fiber in your diet as the extra fiber can over work your colon.
I think I will get the Vitamix Vita Prep 3 for blending and the Omega 8005 or the Solo Star for wheat grass juicing. I am greedy and want both.
But my first purchase will be the Vitamix Vita Prep 3, as I like the idea of getting the nutrients from the whole fruit or vege.

I have the 5200 Vitamix. Vitamix send a rep to Costco twice a year. Just have your family member find out when the rep is coming to the Costco near them.
