Me again....
I am trying to lose some weight (less than 20 pounds) and I wanted to post what I will be doing starting monday. I have already incorporated some of these but I will combine all of them begining tomorrow.
1. I will eat 5 small meals a day that are balanced with quality protein and complex carbs.
2. Drink 10 8oz glassses of water a day.
3. Grill all of my food on my George Foreman to KNOCK THE FAT OUT!
4. Take supplements each day which include a fat burner (for energy), an EPO, a multi vit and my hair vitamins of course.
5. Exercise 6 days a week alternating interval walking/jogging and The firm body sculpting system
6. Rest on sunday and eat something sinful to trick my body into reving up my metabolism.
7. Ensure that I get the daily recommended amount of fiber in my diet (people underestimate the importance of regularity in weight loss)
And thats about it..hope to reach my goal(135-140) in about 3 months and will report back with changes once a month.
Please do share the basics of what you are doing to shed the padding...
Diamond Doll
DiamondD, looks like you have some good things going for yourself there. I didn't think about having one cheat day a week to rev up the metabolism.... I do it once a month. I usually go to Friday's and have my Jack Daniels chicken and shrimp, mashed potatoes and that apple crisp dessert and about 300 mimosas /forums/images/graemlins/lick.gif LOL! I already did it this month. I feel like that keeps me in check. Anyway, I do most of the things you do,
I work out 5 days a week lifting weights and cardio
I eat 5 small meals a day, and only drink water or crystal lite
I try to get in my 5 servings of veggies and fruits and I take a mulitvitamin
I try to get plenty of rest /forums/images/graemlins/sleep8.gif
I think your routine sounds pretty good to me. You will lose some weight for sure. You should do just fine.

Yes Caramela it does sound like we are doing a lot of the same things...
Thank you Hada....
I am going to try very hard to stick to this because I want to be back in my 7/8's from the current 10/11 I am in!
thats what a little slacking here or there gets you....unwanted weight!
I have learned that it's easier to keep it off than lose it so when I reach my goal I will make SURE I stay with in a very small window 135-140 and I won't even allow a pound to sneak in!
Diamond Doll
DiamondDoll, another thing you may want to try is to sneak in extra excercise. When going up steps, take 2 at a time, on commercial breaks you can do pushups, crunches, bicep curls etc....

Where did you hear that cheating once a week will rev up the metabolism? I never heard that before, but any excuse I can get to have a cheat day, I will surely take /forums/images/graemlins/lick.gif

Hey....thanks for the tip Caramela. I always take the stairsin stead of the lift.
Tebby....I read in several sources that when you are on a fatloss program that once a week it is good to eat something that is "bad" because it jolts your body's metabolism. Basically, your body is on a low fat diet your metabolism could slowd own a bit and by eating something with high calories it lets your body know that there is no famine going on so it can feel free to burn up the calories.....once a week though. It works...but only if you cheat for the one day....and if you want to make it evenn better make it a one meal cheat.

I've started my crunches and I'm beginning to see some definition. This guy told me the way he achieved his 6 pack was by doing as many crunches he could every night. I've been doing this for a few days and I must admit, I see a slight difference. It's encouraging.

Hi DiamondDoll
I do the FIT FOR LIFE it's a book that teaches natural hygiene by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond.
I eat fruits and smoothies up until 12:00 pm
For lunch it depends, I may eat a baked potato, with real organic butter, Corn on the Cob and a salad. Sometimes I eat Ezekiel Bread with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and avocado and Pico Degio Chips. Sometimes a salad and toast.
Dinner
Steak (once every six months) Shrimp, chicken or Salmon vegetables and salad
or pasta with vegetables and Ezekiel bread
or Potatoes, vegetables and a salad. It just depends, I eat a lot of variety and eat beans and raw almonds once a week.
I work out seven days a week, twice a day and also lift weights.
I don't eat after 8:00 pm except fruit.

GET OUT OF HERE!! I just started following the Fit For Life Plan last week, but not 100% like you are.
What is Ezekiel bread? My friend and I were trying to figure out what this is. Also, I am trying so hard not to combine the foods wrong, but it is so hard.

Hey Diamond,
I lost exactly 106lbs a year ago to go down from 226lbs to 120lbs. Losing weight is actually not as hard as most people think. Once you do something for 21 days straight it becomes a habit. That is what I feel anyway.
I started with daily walking and just increased the time I spent by 5 minutes every fortnight. I still cannot run to save my life though /forums/images/graemlins/drunk.gif. I joined the gym and took up cycling, rowing and weights. I'm addicted now though my membership ends in April. I'm hoping someone somewhere will pay my fee for me so that I can keep going.
Dietwise, I took the water seriously. I would have 6 half litre bottles lined up and make sure I drank it all up. I also spent less time on TV and joined an evening reading class for children so that the time I used to spend eating food was no longer there.
I still had my chips, pizza and chocolate. The exercise and increased activity really did work.
I have to admit that the last 30-40 pounds were the hardest to shift. I had to cut out weights and increase the aerobic activity to do it. I have taken my weights up again after reaching my goal weight. I still weigh myself every month and get my body fat checked out just to make sure I am on track.

LG3, that was quite inspirational! Good for you for losing the weight. I've been trying to lose 20 pounds for the last few years. I've tried WW before and it really does work but it's not the best plan for me. Neither is anything that cuts out carbs.
I've decided that by just making smarter food choices and getting in some aerobics and strengh-training, I'll be the size that I'm supposed to be. If that's an 8 or 10, that's fine with me as long as I'm healthy and in good shape. I'm trying not to obsess about it.
Walking and playing tennis are my exercises of choice but not practical in the wintertime here in Jersey. I workout at home with tapes and free weights and when the weather cooperates, I'll get back outside again.
Everybody stay motivated and keep supporting each other and we'll all reach our goals. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks Robin.
You are right about low carb diets. Actually any diet that excludes a food group whether low carb, high fat or high protein will make you lose weight. The fact is that nobody can be on a diet for eternity and when you stop, it all comes back.
It is a life change needed by anyone looking to lose weight. You need to make permanent changes that are achievable. If you love your chocolate, cutting it out will only make you want it more. Same with cookies, sweets, pastry or whatever is your weakness. Eating less of it and buying smaller quantities is much better than dictating to yourself that you will only have one every week or every month.
The most important thing with weight loss is making a clear short term goal. Just plan to lose 5 pounds over 3 weeks and when you get there give yourself a pat on the back and try to lose another five in the same span. If you do fall off track don't get angry.........dust yourself off, stand up and try again.
I never got the side effects like excess skin or stretch marks. I went out and got a backless top (Completely nude back with two strings holding it across the back /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif). I was never able to buy the clothes that I wanted and to be honest as vain as that was, it was my reason to lose weight. I'm happy being the size that I am. I was happy 10 sizes ago /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Eziekiel bread is pretty good. I find mine at wholefoods.
I do ttapp, www.t-tapp.com (http://www.t-tapp.com) I also do pilates, and will start yoga. I also eat 3 days of God made and 2 days of man made food. I've lost so many inches on ttapp. Unfortunately I got ahead of myself and slacked off big time.

Thanks sbaker. My advice to you would be it's easy but it takes time to get to the point of no return. When your time comes you will do it. You should focus on maintenance then try for weight loss. It can take 2 months to 'see' a loss but it is definitely worth it!!!

i've always been a healthy eater and nothing quenches my thirst like water so i'm cool there. winter is the roughest time cuz it's easy for me to get lazy and i hibernate. although i love to workout, i am more tired in the winter and have to push myself more. once i get going, i'm cool.
i alternate between taebo tapes and windor pilates. i run 2-3 miles 2-3 times a week. i love to run. i'm lazy with going to the gym in the winter cuz it's too cold to leave the house.
the spring-fall is easy cuz i'm very physical and hike, mountain bike and row all the time. i also run practially 5 days a week during those months and i workout everyday. i just cannot wait to have a bigger place so i can have my own gym at home.

Hi Tebby,
Sorry, I'm just now getting back to you. Ezkiel bread is a sprouted grain bread that has NO FLOUR. Grains are very good for the body and gives you fiber which helps you to feel full. A good thing to do is to lightly toast Ezkiel Bread. I purchase mine from Whole Foods and a store called Fiesta has it. A lot of health food stores carry it so that is where you want to start. If you can't find it there try food-for-life.com.
Don't worry about being perfect at properly combining, it will take time. Example. I love Luby's. I don't eat meat all the time but I love their baked chicken. I will get baked chicken, cabbage, broccoli, corn and eat up!.
Just remember this... anything that is not a fruit or a vegetable is a concentrated food. You only want to eat 1 concentrated food at a time. So you want potatoes? Then, eat potatoes, vegetable and a salad. You want steak? Eat steak potatoes and a salad.
Remember it takes 4 hours for meat to pass through your system and if you eat a meat meal, don't eat another meal until after the four hours. Save your meat meals for dinner because during the day, you want to keep as much energy as possible.
I ate TONS of food and still lost weigh without much excercise. Although now, I work out seven days a week. When I first started I went from 160 to 105 pounds within six months! I was too skinny! I started getting off the program and now, I'm back on because I can eat what I want just not all at the same meal. Email me anytime and I will go through it with you.
Today, I am having the Tortilla Boogie and Roasted Potatoes for Lunch. It's with whole wheat tortillas with mayonnaise, steamed broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded carrots and avocado. I lightly spray my potatoes with olive oil and use Spike seasoning. Talk about good! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I typed my questions a couple of hours ago but I dont see them, so here they are again....
1. What are tofu and meatless chicken patties considered to be? I eat tofu a couple of times a week, and I LOVE the Boca Chicken patties. If I eat them in a sandwich is that okay? I'm not sure if I should eat them in my wheat pita. Also, I like hummus on my chicken patties. Am I combining foods improperly if I do this?
2. Is it okay to eat canned fruits (in their own juices or water) and veggies (low sodium)? Sometimes it's more convenient for me to get those than fresh fruits and veggies, although I know fresh is best.
3. I make a soup with kale, onions, turkey sausage and red potatoes cooked in chicken broth. Is okay to put the turkey sausage in there with the potatoes, or should I not do that?
I hope I'm not sounding silly with these questions, but this is a little confusing to me as to what I can combine and what I can't combine.

Hi Tebby,
Tofu is made from soy beans and soy beans are high in protein. A lot of meatless patties are made out of texurized vegetable protein or TVP, which is also protein used as meats. If you mixed the protein with bread, it is not properly combined. You are always better off using bread to make vegetable sandwiches because that is where you can get tripped up. However, you can mix a starch with a starch but it will be heav on your stomach like...beans with a starch, like beans and rice, pasta and potatoes.
</font><blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr />
2. Is it okay to eat canned fruits (in their own juices or water) and veggies (low sodium)? Sometimes it's more convenient for me to get those than fresh fruits and veggies, although I know fresh is best.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, you should never eat ANY Can goods. The canned fruit is heated to the max and is concentrated. Always eat fresh or frozen fruit (provided that nothing else is added to the frozen fruit). The same with vegetables...fresh or if you can't do fresh do frozen. Also there is to much salt in can goods and a long time ago salt was used to embalm bodies and I know you don't want that sticking in your system.
</font><blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr />
3. I make a soup with kale, onions, turkey sausage and red potatoes cooked in chicken broth. Is okay to put the turkey sausage in there with the potatoes, or should I not do that?
[/ QUOTE ]
No that's not good because sausage is a protein and potatoe is a start and you don't want to mix them because they become akaline in your system and sit there longer. It is not properly combined. You would do better with the potatoes in the soup and using water and seasonings or vegetable boullon cubes, instead of chicken broth and making cornbread to go with it.
No you are not asking silly questions. I still have to think about things sometimes.

Tebby,
Please don't beat yourself up about this. It takes time and when I started Fit for Lifing, I started with one thing at a time and that was eating fruit up until 12:00. I took steps, but the main thing I did was one concentrated food at a time with vegetables and a salad. Then I started eating things like beans and rice, potatoes and cornbread, etc.
Also look in the back of your book in the recipes. I started with the simple ones like the Tortilla Boogie. Also, notice how the recipes are combined. I used the recipes to help me figure out what goes with what. Email me anytime because I have specific things underlined in my book that I had to understand. I will also let you know what those things were that I underlined.

I am still doing cardio 5 days a week (Monday through Friday). I already get up early for work. So, I just get up earlier and do my cardio before taking my shower. I stay away from the bad carbs WAY more than I used to, but I have them every once in a while. In the evening (Monday through Friday), I use my five pound dumb bells to help tone my arms. Since November 17, 2002, I started eating even better. I'm down a total of 20 pounds (which equals out to about 1.81 pounds a week). Oh yeah, I do drink a lot of water too. Thanks ladies. I hope I can continue. Some people say that weight loss is easy. I think it depends on the person. I can say that it's definitely not easy for me (due to medications). It seems like I have to work twice as hard. Oh well. I'm just going to keep on doing what I'm doing. BTW, I did have a half of a cookie just a little while ago. I've come to learn that I don't have to eat it all (this includes everything I eat - LOL) in one meal/sitting. I still love food though. I just keep telling myself "eat to live" and not "live to eat". It seems as though every time we have a family function it centers around who is going to bring what to eat. I still attend many many family functions. I just don't eat everything in sight any more (just get a little of this and a little of that - versus a big ole plate of fat/calorie loaded food). I'd like to get rid of 20 more pounds, and then continue exercising Monday through Friday and eating right. I know I didn't gain it all in a short period of time, so I don't expect to lose it all in a short period of time. How come it seems as though other people actually notice your own weight loss before you do (by looks not talking about the scale)? The funny thing is, my dress shoes seem to be getting looser (wear a 6.5 in ladies). Two of my favorite pairs of shoes do a flip-flop kind of thing (and they're closed in shoes)! Now my watch can twirl around my wrist. Please help me continue!

Girl that is awesome!! Keep doing what you're doing. If you hit a plateau where the weight loss seems to stop, you'll need to do cross training. For example, now you do a lot of cardio in the morning (I assume some type of aerobics), you can switch up by running on the treamill, doing the stairmaster, cycling, etc. But you are definitely on the right path. Keep up the good work! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Congrats Allandra. You are very well grounded. In the first 3 months of my weight loss I could only do 2 days a week and that was really because of laziness. You're already on 5 days a week!!!!!!!!!
I'm so happy when I see someone achieving a goal. You are down 20 pounds and believe me you will love the results in another 3 months. (Wait till your stomach muscles miraculously appear without any extra effort)
And the shoes I can relate to that. I used to wear a size 9 and went down to a 7. Everything goes down!!!

That sounds like my regimen for cardio too.
I do mine on Sat. also. I also get up while my boys are washing and getting ready to go to school. I do feel good.
You burn HECK OF ALOT more fat when you do cardio in the a.m. than in the latter part of the day. I do it on Sun. sometimes also then chill and eat junk! Iwas 160lbs at my biggest and now I am 133lbs (5'8"). My aunts are telling me to stop!

For the past two months I've incorporated longer morning walks in my exercise regimen & my body/mind is loving it ! Depending on what else(work, mood, weather, time demands)I get in 3-6 miles,5 days a week.I also spend more time stretching before and after execising. As for diet,I maintain a low-carb lifestyle( sometimes I slip up --bad carb here and there) but the weight continues to drop. Thank Goddess !

Nothing right now...I have slacked greatly since this summer... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
But once I find the time and motivation, this is what I wanna do:
1. Eat 5 small meals during the day instead of 2-3
2. Drink 80-100 oz of water daily
3. Exercise 30 minutes for 4-5 days a week

I've been on the Chic and Slim system (www.annebarone.com) for about a month and my tummy fat is starting to go away! I also try to do a dance tape in the mornings (30 min) and 1/2 an hour on the treadmill at night.

I lost 100 lbs b4 my wedding i5 yrs ago. I did it by daily exercise w. no dietary change. Til this day, every time I'm regular w . exercise, weightloss comes. I just have to get reg. again. I can't do this fully until I move in my new apt. Where I live now, I can't exercise normally. My landlord lives under us and he has mirrors on his ceiling. Picture me 2 225lbs trying 2 exercise quietly :perplexed :look: :lachen:

I have joined a gym which I attend at least once per week with a minimum of 3 hours working out with a combination of cardio, free weights and running. I won't be changing my diet drastically but I eat a lot more fruit and vegetables, and drink lots of water.
HTH.

Bumping this great thread.
I just started my workout regimen 1 month ago (it's in my signature) and I want to lost 50 lbs. Am I safe to assume that with working out 4-5 times a week and changing my diet, that I may see results in 2-3 months?
Also, how is everyone else doing? LondonGirl? Allandra? Everyone?

I've started to watch what I eat, drink more water and stay consistent with working out each day. So far, people have said that I've dropped pounds and my clothes feel looser, but I really want to do something about this stomach of mine. My workout plan now consists of an hour of cardio and 20-30 minutes of strength training. It's about time that I step it up a notch, especially with school starting soon. Gotta make everyone say "Wow!" when they see me.
