I kicked the scale this morning...that's right , I kicked it.
I'm not on the atkins anymore, I'm just trying to eat healthier...and I've been doing pretty damn good. I've been posting my menu on the "fitness journal" thread.

I have been walking 3 miles every other day.

I cannot get under this one weight....I'm so frustrated!!!
I don't know what else to do!!

I've been trying to eat 5 times a day, I eat breakfast now which is hard for me because I never have before.

A sample day may be:

b: all bran cereal
s: rice cakes
l: veggies sub on wheat bread
s: low carb bar
d: a chicken caesar salad

Someone help..what am I doing wrong? My body does not want to budge passed this spot...

IS there something I can take to help with my metabolism? Even though I'm exercising maybe it needs a boost.

help, please....my sanity is at hand http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/look.gif

glad you're not on Atkins anymore--it's a quick-fix, fad diet & it's unhealthy.

Your new choice is probably a good one--to eat healthy and eat frequently.

Hi LuLu, I usually lurk, but could sense your frutration so I decided to respond.

How long have you been following your current plan? You could be plateauing and need to kick it up a notch. Try picking up the pace of your walk or alternating your walk with a jog every few minutes. You might also want to incorporate some weight training. Muscles burn more calories so you could eat the same foods and net less calories. Plus, you'll feel stronger and even if you don't actually lose pounds, you'll probably lose incles once you tone up.

I've been exercising like this for about a month or so??? I didn't start at 3 miles though, I started at 1.

I'm not doing any weight training, I do a few situps, and exercises for my sides, butt, inner thighs etc...but I don't really have the money(college student) for a gym.

I tried to jog a little one time and afterward my shins(sp?) hurt so I my need some support before I try that again.

And thanks SG

Now lovey - dont be dismayed http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know this may sound weird but you probably arent eating enought calories! (do you know your basal rate/resting rate) and your body went on starvation mode plus with the quick fix diet your body is probably just hogging all the carbs. also remember muscle weighs more and if you are building then it may seem that you are not losing weight. also try adding some more protein sources fish, chicken, turkey, beans, shakes etc. and remember water, water.
and let the carbs come from complex sources like broccoli, asparagus, lots of salads, spinach, string beans, etc.

It doesnt look like youre eating any junk foods - sodas, candies, sweet/sugar loaded juices or 'empty' calorie foods. Also try a little cottage cheeze as nite time snack - its protein and slow digesting. also if youve simply hit a plateau try adding some more cardio like walking, take the stairs instead and park far from the door http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif etc.

Hope this helps some.

Good luck and hang in there girlie http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sound like you're on the right track. Congratulations on working your way up to the 3 mile mark. You don't need to join a gym for weight raining. Get some hand weights or a body bar from a sporting goods store and check out Shape magazine. Every month they feature different excercies that you can try at home.

If you've got bad knees you probably should skip the running until you've talked to a doctor. What about bike riding? If you already own a bike you can get a stand that will make it stationary so you can pedal away the pounds in your dorm even when the weather is bad.

I found this about simple vs. complex carbs It's long but it is informative. I just do ctrl+f and type in simple and complex. But the whole article is good. http://www.cowboycadillac.com/simplecomplexcarbs.htm

I was on atkins and quit too. I'm doing low carb my way. Don't give up, it helps if you don't use the scale everyday because weigh fluctuates especially during PMS and TOM- For me personally, I noticed that I lose weight 2-5 lbs for the first two weeks of the month and then I'm lucky if lose 1 lb the next two weeks. I'am slowly learning to come to terms with the scale. I'm losing inches and that's all that matters. Maybe you should measure yourself to track your progress.
I noticed that you menu is a little to scarce, you're not on atkins anymore but you still need protein and fat. Right now you're only eating protein and fat during dinner. I try to incorporate, PCF at least two meals everyday. I would also get rid of the low carb bar, and just eat a piece of fruit, cheese or something natural.
You might also need to take a multivitamin-

I agree with NYC I think you might need to eat a little more like add 250 calories more to your day.

Thanks for those tips...I will kick the low carb bar.

I've wanted to eat fruit but I hear you can have too much of that too, is this correct? Can you have too much natural sugar?

I need to get a measuring tape....where can I get one?

You can get one at a hobby shop or fabric store.

I hear that you can have too much natural sugar too. I stick with fruit that has a low glycemix index like berries, cantaloupe, melon and graperfruit. Everyone is different, Whenever I have a banana, I feel like I have a hangover, some people do fine with bananas. Just pay attention to how your body responds to what you're eating, you'll know if you should keep eating it. I called my diet, my new way of life, coz I realized that I have to pay attention to my body and food regimen for this work. I'm finding out things about how my body work that I never knew and I'm so excited about that!!!!!!

I agree with everyone who said that your caloric intake is too low. I believe that Self has a calculator to determine how much you need to eat to simply maintain your current weight. But if you eat too few calories, your body will think it's starving and will begin to hoard any and all food that comes its way and store it. Think bears in hibernation. Supergirl posted the link a couple of days ago.

Also, you probably need to vary your exercise. Walking is good, but maybe walk up some hills. Jump rope. Kickbox. Get some dumbbells from Target/Wal-Mart/K-Mart and do some light weight training.

You can do it.

Its the amount of calories your body burns even when you are doing nothing - just sitting eating drinking sleeping.
Here's a link to help you calculate.

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/calrmr.htm

A nutritionist i went to told me mine. also (*if you go to the Bally's website and print out their free two week trial when you go in the the gym they tell you http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif*)

i forgot to say - you want to be eating this figure less maybe 200cal or so..and walk/exercise like crazy - well almost! that way you are not denying your caloric requirements too much and going into starvation mode - also once in a while you can deplete and eat say 1000cal for a day. (that works for me)

so... scroll down the page and use the calculator. it gives a rough idea im not sure how accurate it will be for you - for me it was 30 less than what the nutritionist told me!!
so its pretty good.

It sounds like eating alot - but depending on how you make up your daily menu - it really isnt! Hope i didnt confuse u too much.

Glad to help where i can http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

another helpful site is www.fitday.com. (http://www.fitday.com.) I used this site to put in everything I eat and it calculates your PFC ratio and calories, tell you where most of the calories are coming from. It also keeps track of your exercise. It's really useful to me.

Ideally that means that in order to maintain that weight, you can eat that amount. If you want to continue to eat that amount of calories, increase your exercise. If you're already exercising to your maximum, decrease your calories.

3500 calories = 1 pound. So, if you want to lose one pound, you will have to lose 3500 calories through a combination of exercise and caloric intake. That's about 500 calories per day.

Calculate how many calories you burn during each exercise that you do whether it was weight training, treadmill, kickboxing, walking, running, jogging. Then build your daily food intake around that.

So, if you are going to walk 3 miles per day and you do it in 30 minutes, let's say that you burn 250 calories (this is just an estimate). Then you would decrease your calories each day by 250, taking in 1783-250 calories. You should lose a pound in a week. If you want to lose more without losing the food, increase your exercise.

One last thing. A 130-pound woman with only 15% body fat can eat more food than a 130-pound woman with 30% body fat because muscle burns food faster. So, whatever you decide to do, increase the muscles with weight training.
