Afternoon Ladies.

I'm searching for a spa where I can go and get a great, facial, massage and a Brazilian. Yes, I said a Brazilian /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The only spa that I know of is Bliss, but I heard they're really expensive. Any suggestions?

Hi, AmilLion. There used to be a black-owned day spa in Manhattan called Gazelle Day Spa. They may be just as expensive as Bliss but I'm feeling ya on the spa treatments - I'm due myself. I don't know about the Brazilian, though. Is that when they shave it all off completely?

I get FANTASTIC facials at Maksim Skin Care. The best I have ever had. I used to get facials from Marcia Kilgore(founder of Bliss) before she started Bliss and I like Maksim's facials more. They do everything. Here is a link to their website for more info

I think Gazelle's is closed down now. They weren't that great...

AmilLion, I don't know whether this spa does Brazilians (you're a brave one, girl!), but they're cheaper than spas in Manhattan. It's in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Here is the link: The Home Spa (http://homespa.com) . The name is really accurate; it's a nice homey little place. The owner is African American. Hope this helps!!

I also wonder - does a Brazilian mean they WAX it all off?!

Thanks for the referrals guys /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As far as the Brazilian, my friend got one and she said it was the best thing ever. From what she said, a Brazilian isn't when they wax everything off. I must admit, I'm scared, nervous and probably will punk out the day I go for it lol...The idea. OUCH!

Has anyone here had this done? Sounds terribly painful.

Click on the link I posted... I believe it is painful. Also, I can't have anyone that close and all up in my private areas... that's just me though. I'm even uncomfortable wearing tops that don't cover my butt and still run from the bathroom to the room so my mom won't see me half naked. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Uh, uh. No way. At the most, I'll shave it all off from time to time but the itchy stubble is a MF.

AmilLion, if you have this done, please post your review.

I have heard about the Brazil wax no way!!!! First I think about the wax applicator and the wax that they reuse and reuse and reuse and reuse on people! Then having a woman fondle me.....I think I will pass!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Gross! I get my eyebrows threaded and bought my own wax kit if I want to wax my eyebrows or something!

Honestly, I wouldn't mess around and go anywhere else but Bliss unless it was on a high recommendation. With a Brazilian you want to be careful, because you are going to be waxed clean. The tiny landing strip of hair they leave floats above your labia. So prepare to be denuded there.

Don't worry about anything freaky going on - Imagine being in boot camp and the attitude a drill seargent gives you. It's a no nonsense atmosphere. They come in and do their thing as if they were smacking flour on chicken before it gets thrown into the fryer.

And it only hurts the first time out. After a few times, it's no big whoop.

A Brazilian is not that bad to be honest. I have had a couple. My sister planned a trip last summer just for us girls to florida. Me all decided to go to a spa and treat ourselves so I decided to get a Brazilian wax. They all thought I was crazy but I did it anyway. Depending on where you go you might get a paper like thong thingy or you can opt not to use it. I didn't. They coat you with wax and yank the strips. Now I am not going to lie, it hurt like all /forums/images/graemlins/censored.gif and I wanted to scream but it went away. I was really sore for about two hours but it was totally worth it. I was so cute at the beach and you can't get brazilian smoothness anyway else that I know off. I have gotten more since then and the more you do it, the longer you can go without one and the less it hurts.

From the article about the Brazilian wax at J Sisters in NYC:
"[After the Brazilian wax:] Then Juracy goes over my body with tweezers, plucking stray hairs."

Sorry, but, NO THANKS. I do my own 'maintenance', thank you very much!
Only two other people in this world are allowed to get THAT close to me and one of them is
my gyn.

I don't know, I've tried home waxing and that s---t hurt! I can't even IMAGINE getting
a Brazilian wax! Isn't that only for folks with 'wispy little hairs' down there?!

BTW, did anyone see Saturday Nite Live last weekend? They did a skit on
a Brazilian wax which was really funny. "Okay, Sasquash,...". LOL /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You don't have to get a brazilian to be smooth at the beach I get regular bikini waxes where they ask you how for in to wax you show them and that is it! I don't have to go further than that.....

The friends I know that have Brazilians say it does hurt but after it is great. I think I will pass. Ole fashion bikini wax works for me..

Smooth is cool, but I don't think so with a Brazilian wax. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I would hollar something fierce. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I'm with you BlkMane, when it comes to my own opinion, that particular thing is not worth that much pain, then to have to go and keep it up? Oh no. /forums/images/graemlins/nono.gif I just apply my little Nair wait several minutes and let the water take it off... no pain, no worries, and it's just as smooth.

Also, I don't know how I did but I caught that Brazilian wax episode on SNL. It was funny too.

I'd be more bothered by having some strange Brazilian lady inches away from my birth canal than the pain!! Even if it wasn't painful I wouldn't do it. I can barely try on an outfit in a open fitting room at a boutique, let alone allow someone to stick their face and hands that close my "love opening". /forums/images/graemlins/nono.gif Nope. Nope. Nope. Just not gon' do it!
