View Full Version : How do you "jazz up" a grey or brown wrap dress?

So that it doesn't look like you're about to go to work or church?
I found them at United Colors of Benetton. They are very form flattering.
They are kinda slinky although I wouldn't refer to the material as jersey. It's like a stretchy thick cotton. (I'm sure I'm making it sound ugly)
I can't find a pic anywhere online but I'll try to take a pic in them and post the pics later.
What shoes can be worn to keep them looking hip?
ETA: the gray is like a regular heather gray and the brown is just brown

I'd start out with color. When you say grey or brown, I'm immediately thinking red. You could wear some red peep toe pumps. The accessories are what will make the dress. A colorful clutch (or oversized hobo or tote). There's alot you can do. Wrap dresses are the best!

Regarding the brown one (since that's my favorite color), it would have to be dressed up with a really cute necklace and earrings. Since most wrap dresses have a plunging v-neck line, a cute necklace would be your focal point. When I wear brown, I wear shades of cream/caramel, light blue, pink, turquoise, or red with it (not all at the same colors at one time though:grin:).
But mainly b/c I really like dark colors, I would find a necklace with brown, hints of gold, caramel, etc. And some really cute earrings!!!
I don't wear a lot of gray, but you could do navy blue, pink, or red with gray, following the same guidelines.
Hope that helps!
(that dress sounds really cute! I had ordered one on clearance at spiegel and had to return it b/c the material wasn't what I expected)

Thanks...
I'll be wearing one of them (I might go back to see if they have other colors) on the field for DH's welcome home from Iraq ceremony.
I want to look cute but not sink into the grass like someone else mentioned. So I was trying to stay away from pumps.
And thank you to everyone who suggested a wrap dress. They are my fave.
These wrap dresses aren't really dressy though (which is what I want).

Sounds cute....but what shoes??
That's wear I'm coming into my biggest problem. I can usually find great accessories once I find the right shoes.

I know I said I don't want to wear heels but I was thinking of this shoe with the gray dress and a cute clutch to match:
Call me crazy but I like pink and gray

Hate to through a wrench.....but what if you wore a Maxi dress....flowy, long strapless or halter or spagehtti straps? These are sexy, dressy, casual....whatever you want them to be. Then you could wear sandles (flat ones)....like a jeweled leather thong (with a strap enclosure).

Your accessories will dress it up or down.
Necklace and earrings
Bracelets
A very nice vivid colored wrap or shawl
Purse and shoes.
Have your makeup be more pronouced than when going to work. Smokier eyeliner and eyeshadow, etc.
Those items will do the trick. Have fun wherever you are going! :yep:

Yeah, there is that, but the sexiest part would be when the wind blows and the hint of your shape and glimpse of a leg....I think that's sexy...
I attached a couple just for reference. Even a solid color with the same theme in mind as the wrap (jazz up a solid color maxi with color). Either way, you will look hot! Those shoes are cute you found to go with the wrap dress.

If it's the dress you want to jazz up just go to a fabric or craft store, get some jewels or other ornament, and strategicaly place them where you'd like.

Another option for shoes (if you don't want the spike heels in the grass) would be a wedge...very cute for spring. For grey, I think pink is adorable. But so is lavender or blue. If the dress has a plunging v-neckline (most do), I often wear a cute cami underneath just to add some color. Also, def. wear a longer necklace...it compliments the neckline well.
ETA: Congrats on ur hubby's homecoming!!

Grey: red, blue, or yellow shoes. I also love grey and white, but Imay be in the minority with that one.
I love a brown and pink combo :)
