Well, I did curves for 6 months last year. It didn't really work for me, mainly because I think I needed a bit more cardio than what they offered. I went religiously 3 times a week for 6 months, I lost like 6 inches total, and 5 pounds total. Their hours suck. most curves clubs open at 8:00 AM and close by 7:PM (at least all the ones in Boston did). so I always had to go afterwork.
I joined bally's this year. I just do the cardio class and 45 minutes of strentgth training every other day. I'm seeing results!!!!

I looked at Bally's website and they seem really good. I don't have a Bally's so I am thinking about joing Ladies Superfitness. They don't really have a plan for you but the good thing is that they don't smell musty which is definitely a plus. The other gyms always smell of musk.

You should still see if you like curves, I didn't like it but you might- They offer a free week membership(you don't have to sign up for anything)- Although everyone at my curves also did cardio on the side (so maybe it's not such a good idea)-
Either way, you should go and see first before making as decision. some people like it

Curves is out. They don't have classes and they are barely open.

I think I'll probably benefit from a gym membership. Besides my fear with Curves is that I will grow tired of the same routine.

And it repetition, so people tend to get bored with it.

That's what they told me; I would be doing some circuit thing and then leaving.

Around where I live, there's the closest Curves facility. I'm very skeptic about the workouts there. But after reading your posts, I'll be better off watching Fit TV or getting a workout video and doing some weight training on the side. To me, you don't want to go to Curves and try the free membership without getting any results from your workout. Toodles.

Thanks Blaxal. I never had heard of Curves until yesterday. They really need to offer classes. Many women, like myself, just want classes. The low priced gyms seem to shy away from offering classes though.

Bettie, I agree with you. I love my aerobics classes. If I could combine cuves' strentgh training with aerobics that would be cool. But my budget won't allow it. Plus you do get tired of the routine after 8 weeks, so you always have to motivate yourself to go . The majority of women who do lose weight on curves also do Atkins or follow the curves diet in the book or some kind of low carb plan.
If you just eat normal and do curves, you won't see nada. But if you eat normal and do cardio, you'll see minimal results. my 2 cents

Yes--I agree with the majority here. It's a good workout (I was a member last year) but it gets boring quickly especially if you are not new to exercise.

My girlfriend did Curves for a year and it did NOTHING for her. IMO if you have a lot of weight to loose then you need to do some cardio also. I think Curves does not have bicycles, steppers, group classes, etc. It's just resistance training. My girlfriend joined a different gym which she takes Spin classes and she lost 7 pounds and 2% body fat as oppose to wasting a money at Curves and getting no results.

I love Curves, it's perfect for me, as for getting bored, it is the same all the time, but the people are great and the music is up beat. They don't have classes but you can always get assit on the machines and someone is there to help you. Plus the price is good for my budget: $29.00 a month

my bally's membership is 19$ a month, I didn't sign a contract and there is someone there to help me as needed on the machines also.

I just joined curves today. But I have a friend who lost 9 lbs in one month and I know she does not really diet. I guess I will give it a whirl for a while and see what happens. Worse case scenario is that I lose the initiation fee but I actually have 3 days to cancel the contract anyway so if I dont like it after a month or lose at least 3 of the 10 lbs i need to lose then i will join another gym

You get what you give at Curves. I love it. I stopped going for a couple of months, but I am back at it and realized how much I missed it. When I weight in at the end of the months I will let everyone know how it went.

I am so glad to see this thread..
I went to a Curves gym yesterday to check it out..
That would be so a waste of my time.. I was not appealed by the facilities at all..
I rather go run a treadmill for a few minutes than do that.. sorry
I was so hyped about it and then when I saw what it was.. I was like 'You've GOT to be kidding me!' *frown*
