View Full Version : Calling all Louis Vuitton Owners

Today I purchased my first Louis Vuitton purse from the Louis Vuitton retail store, and I have a post-purchase question - do all LV merchandise come with warranties and/or some sort of owner registration?
I think my LV is great! I got the monogram cabas piano, but for some reason, I was expecting more written material to authenticate the purchase...
Thanks

Congrats on you LV. I am expecting a REAL LV for our 9th anniversary this October. I have 2 fakes which I adore. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif (please no flames)
Hubby is now saving up for my first real one. I haven't decided what I want yet though...probably an Epi Speedy.

You know Andrea. I have been asking the same thing. This thing almost cost the price of a used car and they gave me no paperwork whatsover in terms of warranty documents or authenticity documents. That reminds me to ask them about it. If they don't offer a warranty (since the price was so high), I will not buy another one retail.

I saw some Dooney and Burke purses at the mall for under $200. I think I'll settle for those. They look just as good as Louis Vuittons'. What do y'all think?
diamond_nh
03-14-2004, 02:16 PM
Apparently they use to give letters of authenticity upon request but stopped because people took those letters and used them for fake bags.

MissJ,
It's all subjective but an LV draws attn from across the room. Sometimes I have to consciously decide not to carry it to keep from drawing attn.
Bettie
03-14-2004, 02:19 PM
Yes, diamond, the people were photocopying the letters for fakes on ebay. Now, the counterfeitors are copying the receipts. I, however, am surprised there were no warranty documents. If I get a warranty document with my $1.00 pen where is it for my hundreds of dollars purse?
MissJ

My parents would kill me if I got anything Louis Vuitton. I've liked them ever since I saw Jessica Simpson with one. I don't know where they're sold other than ebay, so I probably wouldn't have a chance to get one anyway. The Dooney and Bourkes that I saw are in the rainbow colors and rather small. I like the small ones. I just can't decide whether I want the off white one or the black one.

Thanks ladies. I purchased this bag: My Louis (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=10199930&SectionID=60 00). I picked it up at a Louis Vuitton retail shop in Cherry Creek Mall in Denver.
Miss J, I like the Dooney & Bourke bags, and I'll probably get one someday. I actually went to Dillards & Foleys and looked at everything they had, but I decided to hold out for the LV I had my eye on.
Bettie, I am now wondering if I should pursue obtaining SOMETHING as far as paperwork. Afterall, this is an investment. However, my bag did come with a nice LV cloth pouch to leave it in when I'm not using it...
Bettie
03-14-2004, 02:44 PM
Yes, Andrea, all the bags come with a sleeper pouch. My speedy also came with locks. I bought mine in January and definitely will call them about the warranty; I had been meaning to do that anyway.

Congratulations on your first Louis purchase, andreamaria!! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/clap.gif I hope some of my posts about them helped your decision to purchase one! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif And you made a wonderful choice in the Cabas Piano. I have that one and the Cabas Alto. Actually, I have many of the styles. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif But for your first one, great choice! You will enjoy many years with it!! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Hold on to your receipt. (Not that you will need it.) For the Monogram styles, there is a one year warranty on all the leather parts, and a two year warranty on the canvas, should you have an issue, (I never have). If this is the case, they will repair it within that time frame for free. (The warranty on the limited edition styles is a bit different.) Even if you don't have your receipt, they keep all purchases in the system-- I'm sure when you purchased it, they asked for your name, address, etc., right? This is another reason I only buy from the Louis Boutique. I am glad that you took the advice and purchased from the Boutique. You made a smart decision. Enjoy!

Well, I think that's great how you are looking to buy an authentic even though you adore your fakes.
Let me tell you how I got turned on to LV. It all started on my honeymoon 2 months ago in Hawaii. I went to this market where they were selling LV inspired bags. (I didn't know anything about LV, and I was unaware that it was LV inspired), but I did know that I liked the style/design. Well, the fake I got was a BAD fake. No LV in the design, the design was waaaaayyyy off, and the quality was horrible. My newbie hubby pointed out LV luggage in the airport, and I was devastated!! How could I commit such a fashion crime?? Anyway, there's another thread in off topic where I stated how I couldn't spend $800 for a purse... I was bitter then because I was basically shocked about the price. Well, I got over it, and I'm happy with my authentic LV. I know you will be too http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

BTW Miss J, Ebay is NOT the only place to get Louis Vuitton handbags!!! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/nono.gif In fact, I really don't recommend it b/c authenticity is ALWAYS an issue if you don't buy it in person directly from a boutique (I've even seen fakes w/ serial numbers!!!) Anyways, Louis handbags are sold in the US at all Louis Boutiques, and some of the boutiques are even inside Neiman Marcus and Sak's Fifth Avenue department stores. I mean I think is one of the things black people cant seem to get over, over priced goods for self esteem

Anjel,
It seems like you're making the assumption that people who buy high priced items have to be buying them for self esteem. I can assure you that this is not the case for me! I buy designer items because I like them, and many of them are exclusive or couture items that everyone can't get their hands on. It's all a matter of preference. I don't look down my nose at people that don't buy the same things that I buy, b/c it's all a matter of choice! My best friend will never understand why I like to shop at Sak's, Tiffany, etc., or what I see in Fendi, Gucci, Louis, Prada, Dolce, etc., but she doesn't knock me for it b/c it's a matter of choice. I happen to like high fashion. Period. But I'm not so hard up to get expensive things that I'm getting my lights turned off or going into debt behind it either. That's when I think people need to start evaluating their reasoning - when they willing to do anything to get certain items. But for me, it's what I choose to do with my money; it's what I like. But don't assume that just because it doesn't happen to be your choice that it's automatically a self esteem issue! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/look.gif And I'm not sure why you directed you question just to Black folks who buy high priced items...it leads me to wonder what you think about white folks who purchase the same things? http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Well my husband and I aren't rich. We have bills and 3 children. I don't own a lot of designer brand, it just so happens that I fell in love with the look of Louis Vuitton, not the price (certainly not the price), or the status or whathave you. I can't afford to go out and just buy one on a whim. If I didn't have all of my responsibilities then maybe I would. So, I bought a couple of replicas at a price which I would have spent on a regular old bag.
My husband know how much I love the Louis Vuitton handbags and seeing how much time I've spent online just looking at them, offered to get me one as our anniversary gift. We never had a real formal wedding, I never had the white dress, cake and Church...so he's doing this for me instead.
The money that he's putting aside for my gift is not coming out of our grocery money! I can assure you of that. It's coming from a sacrifice on his part from his own spare money, if you will. Money that he may have spent buying himself a new pair of shoes, or lunches out with friends, anyhow you get the idea....

Exactly, Ayana! The first thing I thought was why does it have to be an esteem issue for Black people ? What about white, Asian, and everyone else? Does this apply to the East Indian and Spanish side of my family, or just the black side? http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
As someone who has always been known to have high self esteem, I have that great esteem because I KNOW that nothing material can give you self esteem. I am wondering why one would assume that someone is buying something for that reason. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif.
I purchase Louis bags because I am accustomed to the quality, because I like them, and quite frankly-because I can.

Its not for you to get or not get. Its not your money being spent. Its not money that is being diverted from caring for your needs. They don't have to justify spending any amount of money on anything. Just like you don't have to justify spending money on whatever luxuries you purchase for yourself. No flames - just another view of your opinion.
Lots of people might view spending that kind of money on a purse is frivolous - but so what. People spend money on frivolous stuff all the time. And many times a lot more than a mere $800. Sometimes its shoes, electronics, hair products, clothes…whatever. Materialistic or personal want – they’re the same thing.
Instead of poo-pooing their love of a particular luxury – how about admiring the lives that afford them their luxuries. I’m more impressed that Shinyblackhair’s husband is going the extra mile by saving up to buy this for his wife. Expressions of love like that are far too rare these days. And I’m equally impressed by ayanapooh and BeautyOfTruth having their financial lives in order enough so that they can treat themselves to small luxuries like this. Again, far too rare these days – especially in the black community. Admire that instead of looking down their choices.
You should hope and pray that your life turns out so well that you have a man who cares enough to want to sacrifice to treat you to something nice, and at the same time your money is in order enough so that even if you don’t you can treat yourself.

I have the papillon 30 but wanted the 26 (Igot it as a gift) I am soo mad I didn't get it before they raised the price last month. Now I am gonna be mad that I could have gotten it for less. Anyway if the money is gonna be spent then what is the problem in spending it on one quality item instead of many crappy items? As for Coach their leather is sooo rough and hard it better last a lifetime.

I don't care for the brown monogrammed styles of LV either so therefore I wouldn't spend money on getting them-I know they make other styles and colors..but it doesn't "phase" me. Now anything by Gucci, Prada, or Fendi-I'm game and I wouldn't have a problem spending money on it. I even think Kenneth Cole makes a nice handbag...may not be a high end designer bag but as long as the leather is genuine and the style is cute then I'm game. Now, if I can just get my financial "house" in order.

Enjoy!

Thanks Beauty. If they don't tell you and give you no paperwork, how are you suppose to know?

My self esteem has nothing to do with LV. I didn't know I would get addicted but I did. I bought a bucket off Ebay (very used) and decided to buy one in newer condition off ebay (loved it) and now I have a speedy I bought from the boutique (love it). I carry my other bags only if there is an issue related to being seen with an LV; otherwise it is the LV.
I view the item as a purse and only that. If it didn't look good to me, I wouldn't carry it. How does carrying an LV improve your self esteem?
Also, it seems like the board has this same discussion every week.

You ladies have made some good points.
I have the alma bag and I NEVER carry it for two reasons.
TOO MANY FAKES that I almost get confused and think Im carrying a fake!
IT seems to me when everyone is carrying around a particular bag ( especially in the Chicago and LA areas) it is hard to distinguish on whos is fake and whos is real.
Secondly I live in a smaller town outside of Chicago so when youre seen carrying a LV everybody is all stares and is quick to make a generalization about you.
Thirdly, I dont have the matching wallet. I hate pulling out a DB wallet from my LV purse. Ya'll wanna help a sista out?
Fourth, Ive fallen in love with the DB signature line more! I ve bought at least 4 bags since these have come out. I feel like seeling this LV on ebay or something. I literaly almost hate the bag. Its sitting in its dust bag in my purse closet!
What to do...? Ive been seeing these murakami's around everywhere! I used to like them when they first came out, but Ive seen so many knock offs that it makes me sick http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif
Even the brand new styles have knock offs on the street! Anyways Im gonna check out the sale section on eluxury. Maybe Ill get a new TOD or something.
Cheers!

Don't be intimidated. When you go next time, just look around, and ask to see any styles that you think you might like. You can also visit the LV website and view the various styles. Then, you can write down the names of those that you like, and take your list when you go into the LV boutique so that you can ask to see the styles by name, and actually hold the bags. This way you can really appreciate the detail, get a feel for the bag, and compare the various styles. And feel free to PM me with any questions you might have.
With my bags, make-up bags, luggage, umbrella, wallets, and other LV accessories, let's just say I could open my own little LV boutique /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif(but that would never work, because I will not give up any of my pieces-I can't part with them! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

I felt *kinda* guilty for buying my fakes, my impatience got the better of me and I just got them. sigh...they are just sooo gorgeous though, I just dream of how the authentic ones must be, <sighing again>
However, I *am* getting an authentic Louis and I am so excited. In the meantime I'm just gonna fake it till I make it, lol.
I promise not to turn into a snob and look down on anyone who has a fake, after I get my real one. lol...
Thank you guys for not flaming me, I was a little nervous about putting that tidbit of info out there...
Trust me October can't get here fast enough

Lucky for you you can afford a real one!!
I am really satisfied with my fake. Especially since I can’t tell the difference between my fake and an authenic one. I will take a picture so ya’ll can enlighten me.
My bag actually came with serial numbers inside and on the tag was a serial number. It came with a lock and key and the cloth bag.

My hubby got me 2 last week. Also a gift certificate because he couldn't choose between 2 that he saw so I guess I need to go to the store. I'll read through this thread to see if I can get any ideas.

Hey Denali - See, what happened was I picked up a fake while on my honeymoon because I really liked the style. Mind you, I didn't know anything about a Louis Vuitton, so I really did not know how much they cost. When I found out, I was shocked. In all honesty, I was like, "$800 + for a purse!!" I think I discussed with you that I wouldn't spend that much on a purse - for car mods, but not a purse, lol (That's just me). Well, rocking fakes is the ultimate fashion crime for me (but I really liked it), so I justified my purchase by figuring "I don't have ANY kids, I CAN afford it, I DESERVE it!!!!" I'm glad I ditched my fake and got a real one /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
