All she said was that she worked out every day, drank tons of water and didn't eat salt. We all know that she did more than that!

Mmmmmmm, I dunno. I don't really follow Missy but some station interviewed her and she said the reason she lost weight is because she had high blood pressure and her doctor in so many words said that not doing anything about it was not an option. That could explain the salt issue but I'm not an expert so I don't know.

I've heard her say that people say she did this and that but "Whatever" - in her words.

I do remember some years back she was satisfied with her being overweight, she said, "So what... I like cupcakes." She did say that she didn't lose the weight because she wanted to fall in line with the image tv portrays of the slim curvy women but it was a matter of health.

You'd be surprised how one's own body can change simply from cutting back. Just like hair, our bodies react differently to different things. I was surprised how big of a difference I noticed in inch loss (not pounds) when I stopped eating after 7:30pm and cut out fast food all together... and that was without exercise.

I would believe her because it took almost two years to shed it off. I don't think surgery can achieve that.

Well, I thought she did more with her diet. But hey, maybe I'm wrong! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I just don't think it was that simple. But ya never know. Yes, the article also mentioned her High Blood Pressure so I don't think she took diet pills cause she could really have a stroke or something from that...

Well, I used to weight 205lbs and I'm now 145lbs (I gain a few lbs).

The way I lost weight, I stopped eating any food outside which included McDonalds, Chinese Food and etc. I incorporated more water, took out Juices and sometimes I would drink diet sodas. I stopped cooking with oil, but my stomach does not disgust oil very well, quit with the fried foods, more baked and steam and I dropped from a size 16 to a size 0/2. Yes a 0/2. I struggled to get from a size 14 to a size 10, but when I finally reached a 10 the weigh basically fell off in no time.

I realized I was far too skinny when I look a photo of myself on my webcam and I basically nearly looked like Calista Flockhart!!! YUCK. Imagine, 5'9.5" tall wearing a size 0/2.

I started Dec. 00, was at my smallest by Sept 01. Now, I maintain a healthy size 4/6, sometimes I go under without realizing, but when this happens, I pack on the CARBS.

Now THAT is inspiring AmilLion!!!! It gives me more inspiration to continue my cutbacks. I definately left the fast foods alone and noticed a difference. I even make my own hamburgers with a little Lipton Onion Soup mix in them and they test better than the fast food joints.

Like Carrie always says... moderation and consistency is the key. I've even lost weight in the past just by managing my eating with no exercise at all.

Just stick with it....and u'll see the weight come off.

I think that is the key. Continuity. If you just hang in there the body usu. comes in line. I think the problem is that people want to lose major weight in 3 months then do all these crash plans....

its true! sometimes, its just what u dont do that keeps the weight off. when i got to germany in the summer i was exercising 2-3 times per week. then after summer i stopped. but munich is not like london and i couldnt find KFC mcdonalds, burger king and chinese round the corner from my flat, not even a bakery /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

needless to say, i have lost a stone within a matter of less than 3 months and my people were like this /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif when i went back for Christmas /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

the only bad thing is that the exercise and the warm weather over summer grew my hair out like a weed (the new growth made up about half of the total length of my hair after less than 7 weeks), which i dont get anymore.

cant wait for the summer!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What is also interesting to note here is that amilion knew that she couldn't digest oil so she cut it out. I have heard that if you body has problems digesting stuff it ends up as bloat and fat.

that really is inspiring. i too lost a lot of weight but it was mainly because i stopped eating meat (not because it was in vogue i just couldnt take the taste of it) and started eating more vegetables, cutting out salt, eating whole grains, enjoying water over sugary sodas and juices and calming my sweet tooth with fresh fruits. i just learned of the goodness of frozen grapes. yumm. but how did you effectively reduce the carbs. i think that is the hardest thing for me. i am not into oily stuff either, i dont know when i eat something oily i just feel like it slows me down. i love bread and pasta (whole wheat of course) and i cant imagine my life without popcorn. how do you manage? you are an inspiration. with the holidays and the stupid caramel popcorn calling me i think i gained weight. its not noticable maybe 5lbs at the most but i do want to slim down. after that i want to lose another 10-15 just for my personal preference. i dont drink milk and i heard that there are properties in milk that help people lose weight by some process i cannot recall. i think it is a combo of the calcium and linoleic acid. there was a study that found those that had 1,200mg of calcium a day lost more weight than those who did not. i dont know but i would give it a try. i'm rambling but any suggestions to get rid of these last 15lbs? God bless you all.

yeah i read that too and thought they focused on her life more so than her weight loss. if you get VIBE magazine in your area they have a interview with missy and her trainer. its in the issue with justin timberlake on the cover. her and her trainer show some of the exercises she does and describe a typical day of her eating. she works out a lot and seems determined. its more detailed than that other article in people. God bless you all.

Thank you ladies for the compliments.

The way to avoid carbs would be simply not to purchase it (i.e., rice, breads, potatoes). I get cravings for French Fries, French Toast and just a plain slice of bread. Sometimes the cravings overwhelming that I have to purchase it. But what I do is, lets say with French Fries, I'll purchase the smallest size possible and immediately when I feel satisfied I throw the reminder away. I do not put it on the stove or leave it in a bag for later. If it's in the garbage, I'm not tempted to go in and eat it. That works for me and generally with everything. I do not eat to be full, I eat to satisfy my hunger and once I've reached that point, I simply throw whatever left away.

One thing I'm lucky for, I've always loved fruits and veggies. I normally keep my frig stacked with Oranges and White grapes yummmmm (the idea of frozen white grapes even yummier)....so whenever there's a urge for something sweet, I eat grapes or oranges as they contain natural sugars that satisfy my cravings. I also love to eat the Eddy's Lime and Tangerine Ice Pops....and lord knows I have a sweet tooth, they're only 80 calories..I'm not sure how much sugar....but damn....one of them babies does the trick for the week!!!! In addition, I do not eat JUNK FOODS period...Never been a fan (except the soft fresh baked chips)!!

If you have a notorious sweet tooth like myself, try to limit your carbs to only fresh fruits. If you do, you won't see weight gain...at least I didn't and I would snack on perhaps 50-75 grapes per day.

Rather than cooking a meal with rice and etc...try corn, asparagus, succotash etc........all that stuff is great. If I must use oil, I use those fat free cooking sprays. They're much lighter in my opinion. Worked for me.

When I say, I cannot disgust oil, it's a feeling I get in my stomach when the oil content is too heavy. Kind of feels like the oils is surfacing my stomach lining and I'm about to regurgitate it. /forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif

Over time you're stomach will began to shrink and you will notice portions will began to get smaller and smaller and the idea of eating some foods will make you /forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif

Also....damn, I make long posts....lol...if I choose to eat something outside, yes, I'm one of those freaks that will have 1290989123 napkins absorbing the fat off. Do you know how many calories one can save doing that? Have you ever tried it and realized how Freaking GREASY fast food is /forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif

Sample diet for Amillion:
Breakfast (7:45am) - Quaker Oat Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal (1 packet), no sugar, no milk added
Snack (9:30-2:30pm)- Munch on grapes and drink water til lunch (yes, I take very late lunches...makes the day go by fast)
Lunch (2:30pm) - Chicken Cutlet on European Flatbread, w/lettuce, tomato sauce and maybe mozzarella cheese here and there. Drink either water or eat fresh grapefruit.
Dinner (6-7:30pm) - Baked Chicken Cutlet, Asparagus and maybe.....rice or corn something like that....for dinner, I'll drink 16oz of water and follow with 4oz of orange juice...damn that sweet tooth.

Here and there I may have a chocolate chip cookie, I'll break half, eat half throw away the other half.

In addition to eating as the sample indicated, I to the train station to and from work. Rather than taking an escalator, I take the stairs to my apartment as well as the train...and that's about as far as I exercise right now in DEAD WINTER. (I love walking in spring).

Following a regimen something as stated, I could generally, if attempting to lose weight, lose 3-4 lbs per week. My calorie consumption's pretty low I guess. There's been days, I've probably eaten 500 calories at most..... u figure in a 7 day period I eat 3500-5000 calories and ONE average McDonald's meal contains 1500-2000 calories...Isn't one pound 2000 calories? Imagine McDonald's for breakfast lunch and dinner....that's 6000 calories (approx) a day!

I once heard or read that a person maintaining 100lbs eats 1000 calories a day, 150lb person = 1500 and etc...so I've heard/read.

you really have inspired me. i mean honestly. its like i was doing good with eating right and exercising and everything and the holidays came and the weather got cold and wearing multiple layers disguises stuff but then you get comfortable and start getting bad eating habits. i have a notrious sweet tooth. i have tamed it with grapefruit but once you eat more caramel popcorn your body is like blah to grapefruit. i will have to reintroduce them. i like your idea of not depriving but finding substitutions. i think my mistake is i cut it out cold turkey and then i am like a fiend. i think the eddys lime and tangerine ice pops may be something i will try. whenever i have stuff like that i dont really eat a lot compared to say jolly ranchers or something else. and grapes have been so good. frozen grapes are so delicious and its hard to eat a lot. i think what i also will do is buy those freezer rubbermaid divided containers and cook all my meals say on sunday and just divided it for the week and pop it in the freezer so when i am hungry and dont feel like cooking instead of eating some crappy fried food or grabbing something not healthy i will already have my own person frozen dinner. i read that idea in self magazine i thought wow now why didnt i think of that. also to take your grapes and put them in snack ziplock bags and put in the freezer for a treat. its weird because when you only have like 5 or 10lbs to lose you know what you are supposed to do but you get into a rut and may choose unwise things for yourself. thats why i always try to find support groups and reading books just like with my hair. i learn things every day and new techniques and get ideas that help. thanks again for your insight. i am now jotting everything down and seeing how i can modify it for myself since i dont eat meat. to bring it back to the topic with missy i believe she knew it wasnt going to be easy but in the end it was worth it. she now looks good and feels good. God bless you all.

Missy went on a diet and exercise program prescribed by her doctor. She ran 4 times a day, lifted weights and did 300 situps a day. Her doctor told her she wouldn't be here much longer if she didn't lose weight. She also hired a personal trainer < mark jacobs or jackson or someone. The same one who got LL, Mary J Blige, and Deangelo in to shape. His fee by the way, is $1,500 per HOUR /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gifoo: <Chris Rock Voice> GOOD LAWD THATS A LOT OF MONEY!! but anyway, he said that he had been wanting to get Missy for a long time and he's making it his goal to get her an hour glass figure so she can show some leg in a future video. He really didn't say much about the program she's on other than she eats 1 1/2 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass and maintenance carbs plus she drinks 1 gallon of water a day.

So what do you eat? I wear a 3/4 or 4/5 and I am only 5'3 so I am really curious to know what you eat that would allow you to wear a 0/2. I couldn't wear that even when I was 12. My butt and hips prevent me from going any smaller.

The type of body you have, may never allow you to fall below a certain dress size unless you opt to plastic surgery. That's like a woman with large amounts of breast mass, not breast fat, but mass. She could be the smallest thing, but have a 34DDD which she would probably ALWAYS have to wear larger size shirts.

I wouldn't do anything drastically, I would say change one bad habit, if that's only eliminating Rice, incorporate Fiber somewhere (Fiber's like a natural laxative/cleanser) and you should see the weight loss. You'd be surprise at the results.

I tell myself everyday that I will not eat carbohydrates but since I am not a meat lover I end up eating them everyday without even realizing it. I may add some fiber. I think I need that anyway. With my metabolism, if I lost too much, I would be a skeleton.

Hi AmiLion,

I saw that you can lose about 3-4 lbs per week. Try to slow down the amount to 1-2 lbs per. week. When you lose more, you are losing muscle which can lend it self to the "slim" look. When you lose muscle, you lose your "fireplaces" for burning fat stores, and when that happens you gain your weight back.

Do you cook with olive oil?? For my junk days (sunday) I love to have a bagette and some olive oil meant for salad and dip my bread into it instead of using butter. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Takes an aquiring taste but I find it tasty now. It is very Mediterranean.

3-4lbs a week? I just want to lose about 5-10 lbs. I only weigh 113 but it has been steadily increasing each year - I guess due to age. I only eat baked food. When I use oil, I use Olive Oil. My main problem is pasta dishes. The only meat I eat is chicken and the rest is pasta, noodles, potatoes, rice, that type of stuff.

hada
01-25-2003, 08:53 PM
AAHhhh!!

It's those carbs (pasta) you're eating. The potato is ok, just try to eat it earlier in the day. Carbs should be cut out or decreased around 4 or 5 p.m The body starts to wind down at that time of the day. Try the Nitro-Tech RTD's (Read-to-Drink) they contain 40g of protein, no fat and no carbs. Eat more fruit and veggies during the day too. Include the Flax seed oil.

One thing I have noticed was, when I take my Flax I drop the lbs. on a consistent basis. When I am lacking in flax, it slows down somewhat (weight loss) or becomes inconsistent. I also like to add my flax (milled up) in to my yogurt. I still take the oil too.

I have a few lbs to go. around 4-5 lb. I am trying to be a bit more buff in the upper part of the body and tighten glutes more.

Nothing like a good body with ultra long hair. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I believe you are right. I have been trying to figure out what I am doing different now than 5 years ago and I would have to say eating pasta almost every day is it. I have tried to quit and can't since I don't like meat that much. I guess my next quest is to find a feel good substitute.

Ohh no, I maybe I wasn't clear, but the way that I eat and incorporate exercise into my daily regimen, I "could" lose 3-4lbs per week. I'm not aiming for that much weight lost.

When I was younger, I always had a very slim frame even when I was active in Gymnastics and Track. They used to call me Olive Oil because I was slim with this huge head lol...even called Bat(baseball bat) legs.

I have one question, I have a tiny tiny top frame, especially around my neck and chest area. How could I build that up? My collarbone's very easily spotted. Is there a way to build up extra fat in that area or muscle....something?

Amillion,

I am trying to lose weight as well. Your story is definitely inspiring. Just like you, I'm struggling to get out of the double digits. I'm hoping to be a size 8 this summer. I do 40 minutes of Cardio when I work out in the gym three - four times a week. When the weather is nice I go outside and run/walk for an hour. I have been lifting weights two - three times a week.

Hey AmilLion,

Ok Upper body,

You have the right idea. Do some flat/inclined dumbell flyes for chest. you sit on bench and lay back, making sure that dumbells are facing each other with palms facing each other. open arms up as if to give big hug and using pectoral muscles, brings arms up to almost touch dumbells. The flat/inclined press isthe same except the dumbells are "head to head".

The flat and inclined positions help with working the whole chest muscle. ALWAYS use pectorals muscles to work. You should notice a good change in how your boobies sit too. Work the shoulders too to broaden them. work the Anterior, medial, and posterior heads or the shoulder. This will give you that feminine ballet broadness. I love sculpting shoulders! Looks good especially on very tall people. (I have no need of shoulder padding)

Well since I am on the roll do also,
Trapezius (upper back where blades are),
Latissimus Dorsi (back middle and towards the lower but no all the way down)
Lower back area
Biceps and triceps
and forearm (using smaller weights of 5 to 8 lbs and moving you wrists around to given them streght and definition.)

I say all of this because you dont want to end up unbalanced.
i.e. built in chest but not on the back.

Abs are a given.

Invest in some mags. Oxygen and Muscle and Fitness Hers are good and will give you examples onhow to do the workouts. Since you are lean anyway, you dont need to work on fat losing fat, just basically work the muscle with low intensity cardio and maybe sometimes some moderate intensity.

i.e. do some step up, step down moves, or walk at 3.3-3.5 mph.

***As of right now I am about 133lbs. (That Flax is doing it too along with not eating after 630pm.) 3 lbs to go before goal of 130lbs. at 5'8".

I do cardio in the a.m. RIGHT after getting up and before eating to burn fat stores only and not glycogen, 6 sometimes 7 days a week. between 25min. to 1/2 hr. there are only 3 days a week that I do weights. (split work outs)

It is very possible to lose this much weight through clean eating and exercise.
This is the winning combination that will take it off and keep it off.
Adding lean muscle mass will help you burn 50 more additional calories .....even while sleeping.
So pick up those weight and start pumping.

One calorie is equal to 3500 calories.
Amillion I know what you mean by oils.
There are quite a few things that I have not eaten in so long that my stomach starts to turn in knots.

Pizza
French Fries
Hamburger
Hot dogs
Trans Fatty oils

I cut out most if not all my carbs. (not excluding fruits and vegetables.) I never did care much for breads, pasta, cakes cookies.
Some people become insulin resistant and begin to store all those sugar as fat when taking in too many simple carbs.
Insulin resistance occurs when the normal amount of insulin secreted by the pancreas is not able to pass through to cells. To maintain a normal blood glucose, the pancreas secretes additional insulin. When the body cells resist or does not respond to even high levels of insulin, glucose builds up in the blood resulting in high blood glucose or type 2 diabetes. You may also notice that those who intake in higher amounts of simple carbs ....have high cholestrol and triglycerids.
So be careful with those carbs.

I will wake up about 6:00 in morning.
2 cups (Ice water w vingear
Warm up for 8-10 mins.
Strectch for 6 mins.
Interval training for 45 mins.
Crunch, Oblique, Reverse, Twist until exhausted 20 mins.
Jump rope 20 mins.
Just sprint in place as FAST AS POSSIBLE!!!(almost like a football sprint for 1 mins.) This shocks my system to keep me burning all day.
Breakfast
2 slices turkey bacon
2 egg whites
1/2 grape fruit
green tea
ice water

21/2 hour later
2 boiled egg (whites only)
5 baby carrots
ice water

2 1/2 hour later
3 ounces grilled chicken breast
1 cup dark green leafy lettuce
1 tablespoon fat free italian
1/2 grape fruit

2 1/2 hour later
protein shake
peanut butter

Go to the gym and train clients. I work out with some of them as well for 60- 90 mins.(Cardio, Interval, Circuit and Weight training)
I may have a few almonds before my next client.
By this time I have finished a gallon of water if not more.

6 ounces fish

1/2 cup spinach
small salad
Green Tea
More water all through the night.

I put my kids to bed (and husband)
And do resistance training for anthoer 35 mins.
Green tea

Always moving. BUT......I too have a sweet tooth. Sometimes it gets the best of me. Especially when that time comes around.

After my second child I weight 156 after giving birth.
Within three months I went down to 107 pounds.
I did an average of 41/2 hours of exercise a day. This include weight training. I cut back on my calories and ate clean. And I mean clean. (Heck I could have appeared on an Oxygen Magazine..) http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I flew home to see my parents, family and friends and they said I looked sick. http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I don't know what size I was in. I know my husband said he didn't like the fact that my hip bones pierced him. I quess this ways his way of saying I was too small.
I know average 117-120 in winter and 112-115 in summer.
Prior to my 2 girls I weighted 103 pounds. Though I was small I did not have muscle tone.
Strength training made all the difference in the way I looked. Though I am heavier I still wear size 5/6. After two babies. I wore this at 103 pounds and no babies.
Yes EAT CLEAM< EXERCISE AND STAY MOTIVATED!

that's very inspiring sterry. it's very important for folks to maintain the weight after they take it off. I've never been over 120. Because of what my mom fed us as children, I only eat certain things. Tons of veggies/fruits/herbs..i'm drawn to most things natural.fruits are super important for me to have around for snacking. i've always worked out & been very active and always been naturally toned like my mom. within the past few years i've been researching and wanting to eat cleaner. like you, once i cut out certain foods and stayed away from them, i get sick when attempting to eat them at a later time. for example, anything fried fills me up or turns my stomach after a few bites, fast food makes me nauseous & i don't eat bread, white rice & can only eat a quarter of my dinner if i have pasta. if i need to cook with oil, i use olive oil (6 yrs now) becuz the spray oils actually have alcohol in them and u can smell it when spraying on your cookware. that's not healthy for me. i've always drank alot of water w/lemon or i put herbs in it (nettle or burdock). i stopped drinking soda/juice years ago & i never buy them. i found that if i drank anything with sugar in the evening, it would sit in my stomach until the next morning and i'd wake up nauseous. yuk! plus, those drinks only made me thirsty for water after so why bother? I only buy cranbury & oj. i also don't have a sweet tooth. my mom never gave us sweets and most cakes, pies, chocolates i just don't eat because they are too sweet or rich for me and make my stomach turn. therefore, when i do go out, coffee or fresh fruit is my desert because i don't care for anything else. my only cravings are ice cream, cheez-its and wise potato chips...all that i've had less of even this year being that i ate more fruit to satisfy my cravings. although i think i eat just ok now, i want to eat cleaner this coming year. my winter and summer weight is the same as yours. i've been wearing a size 0-2 for seven years now, even during the winter at 120. i think eating cleaner will help me in the future with controlling my weight and knowing how to get to any weight i may want. i noticed you workout even while drinking so much water. most of my water intake is at night only because if i drank 2 gallons or even half of one before working out, i'd be sooo bloated that i wouldn't be able to work out. thank you for your examples and giving me a place to start.

Oh my gosh... you're making me jealous. I wish I could give up fast food. I just binged tonight and I feel so bad about myself.

I had chinese, Wendy's, a bag of chips, two big cookies, a slice of pizza and an extra large Frosty.

And I took some ex-lax. This is sickening to me...I need

Hi ladies, im all late.

Missy was kinda an inspiration to me. she walked on the treadmill 4 times a day and is currently working on the machines on the gym.

After losing about 40 lbs in 5 months, i understand how rough it is. I think we need to keep in mind that fat people (like the before me and before missy) lose weight more faster than skinny people.

for example, the twin Smith Brothers on the Subway commercial lost 10 lbs in one week!

in most cases, in order to do or be a candidate for the gastric by-pass surgery, you STILL have to excersice to get your body to an acceptable fitness level for surgery- not FIT, but an acceptable level. Even after the surgery, you still have to work out, intensly to combat the loose skin that will come when shedding massive amounts of fat. The diet has to be strictly maintained because most of your stomach has been removed, you now need to treat it delicately there are foods and substances that you can no longer process. Because of your highly modified diet, that you MUSt follow for the rest of your life, you have to take specific supplements required to sustain your life.
Many celebs are jumping on the GBP surgery, and if you are soo far gone as far as obesity, then I guess it's a start, but it is radically life altering and needs to be deeply thought out.

Wow! AmilLion, that's great! I admire your tenacity. I am also 5'9" (and a half) I float between a 6 and 8, depending on the brand. Goodness, I'm inspired again!

My mother's friend and had the surgery and she didn't have to get fit before hand...she had to write a letter explaining why she felt she needed to have the surgery done and then her sleep habits were monitored...for apnea, etc. She does go to the gym now but there are no supplements that she has to take nor is there any specific diet that she has to follow. The only thing that I am aware of that people who've had this surgery should shy way from is sugar and that is because of the "dumping" that goes along with it... but she hasn't had that problem as of yet and she is almost 2 years post op.. Same goes for my friend who has had the surgery... no fitness before hand and no specific dieting...she didn't even go to the gym. She continued to eat the same things that she did before surgery but in very small amounts as her stomach was cut down to the size of an egg and couldn't handle much food.

I agree. I sometimes feel that is the only way I will finally decide to lose, if my doctor gives me a lose or die diagnoses.:nono:
I have come to realize that I may have an eating disorder. It's weird, but I like the way certain unhealthy foods feel in my mouth. Is that a disorder?:perplexed
