I'm frustrated. I've been to the dermatologist, had professional facials, made changes to my diet, used topical anitbiotics, etc... i've given each of these methods months and months to work and have tried them at seperate times. I've been off BC pills for 2 years and have been battling with acne ever since. I believe hormones are the main cause of my acne issues. I stopped BC pills because i didn't want the synthetic hormones in my body anymore, but now im considering going back on them.
My face is not terrible, but its nowhere near as flawless as it was on the pills. I have all this hyperpigmentation/marks from old pimples, in general my face never looks calm/ clear and healthy anymore. I just cant seem to get my face in check without some type of "hormonal" help.
Has anyone else battled acne using a mostly natural approach? I hate popping pills, and using synthetic ingredients in general, BUT i am frustrated. I'm 24 and want to look my best, this acne isnt helping.

beana, I am going throught he same exact thing. I had incorporated EFA in my diet which had helped for the most, but it was getting too expensive and the taste gave me gag reflex. I am thing about trying the VI peel soon.

i had to change my diet...which for me meant no meat..period...there are too many hormones in meat and i felt as if they were unbalancing my own hormones.....i wont lie and say that i dont eat meat every now and again but when i do....within a week i have a major breakout.....then i get pissed and they cycle starts all over again......also i began to incorporate omega 3.6.9 in my diet which works good but works great when i eliminate meat..

I'm about to go on the pill for the first time ever this Sunday (Yaz) and even though I'm afraid of that happening, I feel that I have no choice. I do believe that mine are caused, fundamentally, by hormones. And if that's the case, I think changing one's diet will be okay but not totally sufficient in solving the problem...
Sorry Beana, about your struggles. I'm just commiserating because I just got home from the aesthetician and spent nearly $300 on treatments and products. I just don't know how much more I can take. :nono:

ITA. I think I remember posting in another thread with you aboout how eating meat screws up your cycle too. When I eat too much meat especially red meat, my body goes haywire :nono: I eat small amounts of chicken, fish organic/natural when I can.

OP, I sooooo feel you! I was on the pill for several years and got taken off of it last year. My face hasn't been the same since :nono:
I just turned 29 and now, after being taken off of the pill, am BACK to battling with acne again!:sad::sad: :wallbash:
I am going to pick up some Omega 3,6,9 supplements today. I remember seeing a difference when I was on them. I also heard good things about EPO but heard they may enlarge your breast size and I am NOT trying to have that! lol! Have you tried Nature's Cure?
Best of luck to you!!! Please keep us updated on how things turn out....

Ever tried the Nature's Cure 2 part system for females? A lot of people bypass this thinking it a fluke, however I have been hearing wonderful things. I ordered mine just today.

Perhaps you could consult a herbal specialist about which herbs can affect your hormones in the same way as the pill. Some can be really powerful.

After being on the pill for 8 years, I went off of it in January. My skin was a mess by the end of February. I'm talking huge, cystic acne breakouts. But, I lost the 25 pounds I had gained from going on Yaz in 2 months. I had great skin when I was on the pill, but it made me a hormonal mess and caused me to gain so much weight I was miserable. I'm seeing a dermatologist now about my skin and he has me on a regimen that includes oral antibiotic, a medicated face wash and differin gel. My skin has completely cleared up in one month on this regimen. I'm hoping it stays clear. I'd recommend going to see a dermatologist again. There's got to be something out there that works for you other than the pill. I know how you feel though. I don't think I'll ever go on the pill again only because outside of the great skin factor, I think it was doing more harm than good.

This was/is exactly my issue. I got off BC pills two years ago two and I seem to break out in the winter. I think that time is very stressful for me. The first time it happened my skin cleared up w/ the regimen on acne.org. It only took about two months and I cleared up the spots w/ fair and white serum. Then I was clear until this past winter then I broke out again worse and I was still using the acne regimen. So I eventually went to the doctor who had to put me on oral antibotics (doryx). It's expensive and it made it get worse then better (about two months). During the same time I started Proactiv, facials every month for extractions, and Omeag 3,6,9 vitamins. And my skin has clear up a great deal. Now I'm off the antibotics and trying herbal stuff to help keep it clear. Olive Oil Extract, evening primrose, zinc, Omega vitamins,
vitamin a and some more. I found some of the vitamins need from a web page for acne. View my threads and it'll have the link. But hopefully it will stay clear this time.
And try not to stress b/c it makes the acne worse.
I have pics of how bad it got and I'm going to post them in my fotki. My friend was shocked that I would do that but since everyones advice has helped me, I wanted to help someone else.

Thanks for all the responses.... Having acne is so frustrating!
I just started taking the nordic naturals omega 3 6 9 vitamins yesterday. im taking 2 caps w/ a meal for a month.. i'll make sure to update you all on how that works out.
I caved and got a rx for bc pills.. i havent used them, but i will if i dont see a marked improvement in my acne in 6 months. Hopefully i wont have to go this route. I'm also taking the peruvian maca, but im worried i maybe overdoing it with the hormone balancers (omegas and maca).
The natures cure for women sounds really interesting.. i'll definitely look into that as well if i dont see an improvement with the omega 3 6 9 supplements

Thus far Flaxseed has not fail us but we do take it in the morning on empty stomach then throughout day with meals. A total of 6 most of year except July in August due to heat it was recommend about 4. My doctor said black people must take at least 6 a day he is a wellness MD. I do not think you are going to me disappointed. Some say 1-3 months for improvements although you will see some change in first two weeks.

I went back to the horomones also. My skin got so bad, my Mom asked what was happening. I don't think that I will ever be able to stop.

Still pimping that Nature's Cure. You can check it out @ drugstore.com and there are also reviews on makeupalley.com....I think this product is supposed to be similar to BC pills in that it balances hormones. Just 2 pills (most recommend to taking both at night) and you're done. A combo of vitamins will probably do the same trick, but I'm one of those people who can't be bothered with too much.

Does anybody know if nature's cure is available in the UK?? I really want to try it
I have some serious hormonal imbalance too, and the acne that goes with it :wallbash:
I don't know what to do.
I don't want to go on the pill ever again. I tried it for a month and was a crying emotional mess. it also gave me thrush ; (but my skin was nice)
Last month, my gp prescribed a drug called duphaston, which I'm supposed to take for 10 days (between the 15th and the 25th day of your cycle). It's a 3 months hormonal treatment, and I started in april, but so far, I haven't seen any positive effect on my skin. The only thing it did was to induce my periods to come (hadn't seen them for 4 months :perplexed)
I am really looking for some herbs, supplements, whatever which will balance my hormones. I tried Omega 3,6,9 but didn't see any conclusive improvement. Flaxseed oil made my skin dewy and supple, but did not stop the acne.
Any tips, info is welcomed. Thanks
ETA: description of duphaston
(Duphaston tablets contain the active ingredient dydrogesterone, which is a synthetic hormone similar to the naturally occurring hormone, progesterone. It is used in a wide range of menstrual disorders that are thought to result from a lack of progesterone in the body)
