Hey ladies,
So I'm starting out my journey on this "makeup thing". Yesterday I went out and bought some foundation (Queen Collection: Sheer Espresso. In MAC I'm an NC50 if that matters to anyone.) In any case, I also bought Covergirl Lash Blast (the new one in the orange tube) in the brown black color. I should have gone with my instinct and bought the darkest black, but my freind who was with me said she has it and the darker ones were too dramatic. (I should have figured that since she is much lighter than me that the dark brown would look dark on her, but hardly show up on me.) I'm thinking of getting another mascara. I'm not sure if maybe if I just change the color (get blackest black) or if it's because the mascara itself doesn't do as promised. (I didn't notice a difference at all) I'm also a bit thrown off by the brush. (The bristle are thick and plastic. I thought bristles were supposed to be fine and full?) Anyway, I want voulume, thickness, length, etc. I want my eyes to pop and look like I have false lashes on. Soo...what are you ladies using to get this effect? Do you think the one I have will be fine if I just change the color?

I wear L'oreal Voluminous and it works for me. You have to already have some lashes up there. Most people you see with full lashes like that (celebs mainly) are wearing falsies though.

there is a mascara by YSL called false lash effect ($28)... its the only mascara I use faithfully. I have the zoom one by MAC and I have some maybelline one and loreal but I always use the YSL one. I have small clumpy eyelashes and this is a mascara that separates, thickens, and seems to elongate my eyelashes. But, if you really want that false lash effect, maybe you can just get the false lashes put on at a makeup counter

I have non existent eyelashes but when i do THIS....they look biiiiig (false like..but in a good way )
i use 2 mascaras:
loreal double extend which has the 2 sides. One side has white stuff...kinda like white mascara and the ohter side has black. ( dont know the name but maybelline has a version of this as well...but i like the loreal better )
and also maybelline lash discovery (preferably the curved brush )
1st i use the white side of the loreal. It doesnt have to be perfect. i just kinda graze it along my lashes. Then i use the maybeline lash discovery and apply it root to tip. I kinda twirl it alittle as i brush upward. The i apply the black side of the loreal. Dont do it sloppy though or it will clump. Sometimes i let it dry and then apply even more loreal.
Ive had so many people compliment my big luscious eye lashes... if they only knew that were completely MIA without mascara!
*sometimes* i'll use the eye lash curler but im usually too lazy.

How do your lashes look without the mascara? Sometimes I think people are expecting "too much" from a product. If you have short, thin lashes you're fighting against nature.
I check out a lot of Asian Youtubers and I've seen a lot that say they have short thin lashes and they use primer and an extra special expensive mascara (DiorShow) and their lashes still don't look as lush as some people's naked eyelashes.
How many coats are you using? I'm a mascara whore and if it's not 5+ coats it's not enough.

For Longer Lush Lashes:
Coat inside the upper half of the lash growth with mascara.
When this dries apply mascara as usual to the (*outside area of) rest of the lashes including the already coated areas.
(Step 1 kinda lifts and curls the lashes; Step 2 adds thickness and further defines the lashes) Flirty!
* Add additional coats for thicker and more defined lashes.
As far as brands go, I prefer Maybelline's Lash Styist; because of the lash comb in it.

I second Loreal Voluminous. It's great, creates a very full and dark lash, and usually on sale at one of the drugstores.

i line the upper waterline. (underneath) and then put on mascara and curl the lashes. that for some reason makes my lashes look fuller.

Use a mascara primer. Clinique makes a good one. I also like tweezerman fast lash, which is a like a fiber extender product. There's a learning curve to using it, but it works.

When I curl my eyelashes and use Covergirl in the pink tube green top (blackest black) my lashes always look fake. I do one coat on the bottom lashes and they look as long as the top ones. I'll try to remember to take a pic.
Actually here's a pic but it's not a very good one....http://public.fotki.com/Pokahontas/2008/tried-something-new/jan08pics014.html

I recommend you invest in a good eye lash primer. There are several on the maket, experiment to find one that you like. My fave mass market mascara's are both by Loreal. Voluminous in Carbon Black and Loreal Hip High Drama. I think I like the High drama a lil bit more. Department store brands: 1. Lancome Definicils (owned by Loreal) 2.Chistian Dior Diorshow mascara.

Thanks ladies!!!! To answer some questions you may have: I have long lashes, so length isn't an issue for me, but thickness/ fullness is. I did a ton of searches in the makeup forum plus some word of mouth and I decided to get the Maybelline one (pink tube green top) in blackest black. I tried it out, and it's not bad, especially for the price (Walmart - $3.94!!!). I saw that some of you ladies mentioned curling your lashes as well as getting primer. Do curling your lashes really make that much of a difference? I never understood what curling of the lashes did or why someone would need it. (Except for Asian women who have the straight/ stick out lashes) Also, do they sell primer alone at drug stores?
PS: Pokahontas - I LOVE YOUR LASHES IN THE PIC!!!! YOUR EYE MAKEUP IS INCREDIBLE!!

I think if u get the lashblast in blackest black, practice ur technique and use multiple coats u will get the look u want. I wore false lashes for our wedding a few weeks ago...and couple of days later I was wearing the lashblast...hubby asked me if I still had on those false lashes bc my lashes looked so long.
If u are dong several coats u have to take ur time and comb them out to make sure u dont get clumps or spider lashes. My lashes are almost nonexistant without mascara so its a big step for them to even show up on camera at all.

I would agree. If you don't have any lashes at all, the mascara isn't going to make them come out of nowhere.

If your lashes are naturally straight curling helps. Mine are straight. Without mascara it looks like I don't have any at all but once I put my mascara on or curl them you can see them.

Thanks Glamazon! I'll run out and get one then. Do brands matter in this case? I mean, they all do the same function right? Will it matter if I pay $0.99 VS $5.00 for one?

For an eyelash curler or mascara? If you stick with a reputable drug store brand you should be fine. I have a cover girl one but I rarely use it. I just buy a volumizing or curling mascara and that works good enough for me.

I have seen you say this before and I didn't really get it. (understand the technique) WELL, I GOT IT today! I used my Maybeline Lash Styist and this technique. My lashed are like wow.
Thanks Thanks Thanks!!

When I do this, I have one extra eyelash brush that is clean and dry. I apply the mascara then let it dry. I use the dry clean brush to remove any clumps, smooth, and separate the lashes. Then I use a second application and repeat that same step.

Sorry for the confusion. For an eyelash curler. They are all technically the same...right?
