I have been exercising for two week 5 days a week, 30-45 mins on the treadmill and 3 days a week 20-30 min on the machines but yet the scale isn't moving in fact this morning it said 2 more lbs than last week.

What am I doing wrong. Don't get me wrong I am also exercising for health benefits but I really would love to see the scale move in the right direction.

Hey Lady!

What machines are you using?

When you're on the treadmill or the machines is your heart rate consistently elevated?

Also, have you changed your diet in anyway and upped your water intake and cut out sugary drinks? I only ask because when I first started exercising in the past I would treat myself all the time to congratulate myself on such a good workout:grin: Consequently, the scale went up, I got discouraged and stopped altogether.

I really don't know the names of all of the machines that I am using. I am using 2 for my lower body, 4 for my upper body and 1 for my back.

I have been trying to eat less and drink more water. Maybe it is my diet.

As for the treadmill I do mointer my heart rate and most times it is above what it should be. I also will change up on the treadmill so that I'm not at the same pace all the time. I am so out of shape that I have a hard time running on the treadmill but I have been able to increase my jog time from 1:00 to 2:00 minutes.

That's cool. Keep challenging yourself. It also sounds like the machines you're using aren't for cardio and more for building muscle and muscle ways more than fat but it aids in burning the fat off so hang in there.

I'm not a work out guru but I do know that sometimes you build muscle and gain weight and then you burn fat and lose weight. You may be at the muscle building stage. Do you feel or look more muscular? If that's the case, keep up the good work. Jogging, walking and running are the best ways IMO to burn fat and tone up. Best wishes! :yep:

HI LAdy R! Congratulations on starting a new fitness routine! I just wanted to check and make sure that you are weighing yourself at the same time wearing the same clothes. I always weigh myself first thing in the morning in undies, before I eat or drink anything, that way I get a more accurate measure of my actual body weight and not how much my clothes weigh or how much the food i ate that day weighs. Your weight fluctuates up to 5-7 time in any given day so its best to make sure you weigh at the same time everytime. HTH and just keep up the good work!

I normally weight myself at the gym after working out right before I have taken my shower.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. Two weeks is a milestone because that's about how long it takes to make a habit...which I think is often the biggest obstacle, so congrats! I think you should just give it a little more time. When I started working out seriously a few years ago, I didn't have any weight to lose, but I needed to tone up. I didn't see real, aesthetic results for almost six weeks. I did notice a difference in the way that I felt after just a couple weeks, though. Just hang in there, the results will come if you stay consistent. Also, don't forget to switch up your routine every now and then(try another form of cardio, add new strength moves).

I've found the scale won't move much unless I cut back on sugar, carbs and meat. They make me put on water weight so it doesn't look like I'm losing when I actually am. I used to get so frustrated when I was "dieting" which meant eating heavily processed prepackaged diet food and I didn't lose weight. As soon as I cut back the weight starts to fall off especially when I'm exercising.

Try limiting processed foods (sugar and carbs) and meats. If you're anything like me, you'll see a 1-2lb drop within 24 hours of making this change.

This is sooooo true. Remember that exercise accounts for only 20% of your weight loss success, while eating right accounts for about 80%.

I do cardio for 40 to 60 min a/day 5 -6 days/week which includes at least 20 min running on the treadmill at 5m/hour per seesion, plus about 30 min of weights.

When I eat what I want, usually unhealthy stuff my weight goes up although I'm killing my self out at the gym.
As soon as I start to eat healthy I lose an average of 2-3 lbs a week.

But because of my unhealthy eating habits I have not moved from 170lbs. I need to lose 25-30 lbs.

Sareca, can you please post a sample of what you eat in a day when applying the rules you mentioned above?

Yes please give us a sample. I am a carb/sugar addict. Please give me suggestions on cutting back I don't know if I could stop all together at once. If I cut one thing at a time how should I start.

Convicted carb addict here. What I did was I would first go 2 days with no candy/cake/pies/ high sugar foods. Then 1 day have something then 2 days back to no high sugar foods.

Then I amped it up to 3 days on 1 day off. Finally I got to where I would go the entire work week with no sugary foods. Then I did it all over again with breads.

I am now working on meats, 3 days only fish 1 day of red meat or chicken. It seems to be working but I won't know until I do a final check in May.

Good luck!

Oh right I am working up a sweat to the point that my hair is soaking wet. During the week all I can wear is bun and fall because I work out in the morning and I can't do anything with it.

I'm working on the diet thing.

Dang I feel like I'm home. *Raises hand* hi my name is sareca and I'm a carb/sugar addict. :ohwell:

Here's my daily food intake...

6:30A 1 tablespoon of flaxseed oil using Shanrig-la method. Shanrig-la helps naturally suppress the appetite. You're supposed to use a flavorless oil, but I need the Omega-3s so I hold my nose, take the oil, rinse my mouth, drink some water then let go of my nose. You won't taste a thing.

8A fresh fruit (only your favorite! eat two if you're starving. also don't be afraid to cut it up and add your favorite spices-- pumpkin spice works on just about everything. :cloud9:

10A fresh fruit again this time your second favorite

12P veggie soup (I've been buying it from wholefoods cause i'm lazy).

2P sliced carrots, red bell pepper, celery sticks dipped in homemade hummus (use any recipe from the internet, but add sea salt, extra lemon, paprika, and roast garlic instead of fresh garlic, use less oil and more water) or sun-dried tomato pesto.

*The veggies and dip vary, but I have some dip and at least two kinds of veggies every day. Sometimes I have them for lunch sometimes at 2.

4P mixed olives, more fruit, or whatever is left over from lunch/breakfast.

<driving home> I keep nuts in the car to eat on the way home.

6P a big old salad (Yummy Salad Recipes (http://journals.fotki.com/Serica/recipes/entry/rtwbqrkdrtg/)) and dessert. dessert is usually banana ice cream with nuts or chunks of 70% dark chocolate or pumpkin spice or shedded coconut or vanilla bean or cherries... use your imagination. If you absolutely HaVE to have something sweeter (which happens to the best of us) add a few shakes of those multicolored chocolate sprinkles to your banana ice cream) :lick: :sekret:

*the banana ice cream recipe came from vevster and is non-dairy and homemade... http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167413

What I've learned is to keep acceptable sweets in the house so I don't make a mad dash to McD's at 11P for a McFlurry. :) My family loves spiced candied nuts. I toast any kind of nuts in a skillet, when they are aromatic I put grade b maple syrup on them and sprinkle with cinnamin, cayenne, and cloves. Let it brown a bit then transfer a plate to cool. It makes a peanut brittle consistency but much much thinner and not nearly as sweet. Eat no more than 1/4 cup. They go great on the banana ice cream esp when they're slightly warm.

ETA:
Oh and when I have to have bread I eat sprouted grains (Ezekiel 4:15 brand). Somehow my body processes these differently and they don't make my crave more and more of them.

ETA Again:
Oh and invest in a good LIQUID vitamin. My body craves more stuff when it's missing vitamins/minerals. Why it thinks those vitamins are at the bottle of an oreo cookie bag I'll never figure out. I just started taking this one... http://www.traceminerals.com/products/lmvm.html. It seems to be helping.

Hows much are you eating? If you are not eating enough calories to support your workouts you are telling your body to go into starvation mode and hang onto as much weight (and fat) as it can... I do this a lot and have to remind myself to keep eating (healthier of course.. but it doesnt always happen..) so this doesnt happen...Seems counterproductive but as lng as youre taking in quality protein and good carbs (most times...I try and shoot for eating good 80 percent of the time..) you will see a change!

Also, 2 weeks is really soon to see any drastic changes..give yourself 2 more weeks and then see what goes on... 2 weeks is really only enough time to make something into a habit so your bod (and metabolism) is still getting used to your changed lifestyle!

Much success to you!

Well you know that I am very proud of you and with all that you have going on that you can exercise. I understand what you are going thru cause I am in the same boat. You know after a certain age, our metabolism slows down and we have to work a little harder on our workout routine. Try eating off a smaller plate. Also eating more fruits, vegetables, turkey and fish. It will come off before you know it and you will be in a size 4 !!!

I need to lose 40lbs to get to my pre marriage weight but at this point I would be happy to see the scale move in the right direction

I'm going to start eating more fruit and vegetables doing the day. Thanks alot. I understand about under eating because you get so afraid of overeating you eat too little. I guess it is just trial and error.
